Synopsis "The hero comes. The hero comes. The hero comes. Chant these words in your mind, and I'll surely come to you..." This mantra is what Makoto Tsukimoto repeats as a source of motivation when he fights through the stress of not only grueling ping pong matches, but also in situations of his life. Makoto doesn't fight alone; he and his friend, Yukata Hoshino, nicknamed Smile and Peco respectively, are two boys who have grown up playing ping pong together nearly every day. Peco, brimming with confidence, aims to be the best table tennis player in the world; Smile, on the other hand, shows little ambition. Nevertheless, the two have always stuck together, with a bond built upon their mutual love for this sport. Every year, students from all across Japan gather for the inter-high table tennis competition to achieve national and international stardom. Through intense training and competition, only the very best persevere. From the avant-garde director of Tatami Galaxy, Masaaki Yuasa, Ping Pong The Animation serves a tale of ambition with its fair share of bumps along the way. Whatever the odds, Peco and Smile will face them together. Simulwatchers: Sapewloth, Zergneedsfood, Tenth, Ckan (?), maybe more? Schedule: starts on the 4th November 2017 |

Like I said in the ATOTD thread, that first Ping Pong ep was as good as I remembered. Riddled with humour, good soundtrack and a China that already steals the show. Can't wait for him to further cement his position as best boi. I already know how things will play out but I'm looking forward to seeing more of Smile and Peco's relationship nonetheless. Really enjoyable overall, despite the unconventional visuals. PS: forgot to mention that I really like the fact that China speaks in his mother tongue. Like I said when I first commented on the episode a few years back, it helps a lot with the immersion. |

just a reminder Dragon/Wenge>Smile/Peco I might join later cause its been like 2 years since I watched it, not sure tho. |
Oshii is probably the only director that loves dogs. He thinks he's a dog himself. That's right, its slime! It will dissolve your clothing slowly before my eyes! |

Interesting, managed to get used to the art pretty fast compared to 3 years ago but people taste change over time so that's probably the biggest factor. Don't really think it's a benefit for the show though but good on them for trying something unique. Anyways with that out of the way that was a pretty decent start and I can tell I will like Wenge already but I saw that he's not in the main cast so that's a shame. I'm sure Smile will grow more on me but I really like his friend that just tries to be a good friend and also trying his hardest at being good at ping pong. Overall a good setup episode but what the hell was this haircut lmao Edit: Oh and what @Sapewloth said, good on them making Wenge speak in native tongue. Didn't automatically have him know any Japanese like they always do either. |

"Beware of hawks" dunno why but found that small scene just funny but so random haha Anyways, Koizumi is already a great mentor already with savage lines like "is a bed down there?" when Smile hit the ground. Also this man is 72 years old and can move like that still? Goddamn. Nice to see Smile feeling some passion. |

Smile VS Kong I was going to start with saying Smile just gave zero shits anymore this episode but it's more like the opposite, he's started to care more which really boosted his performance against Kong even though he lost against him in the end it wasn't a bad match, sure made him sweat for a bit. Also the humming part got annoying for me after a while, I know what they were trying to do but I don't want to hear that constantly in a match, gief my hype OST instead. |

Well Kazama is a beast. Hope this isn't the last we'll see of Kong. Really liked the conversation between him and his coach after the defeat. |

I think all the characters are awesome but Peco is probably my favorite too, slightly before Kong who is slightly ahead of Smile. Peco's VA is just amazing. |

Alright, Kong is definitely my favorite character so far even tho they are all pretty good. Poor Demon, never had a chance in table tennis. |

Looks like Peco found his resolve to be a pro again and the old lady is gonna teach him from scratch. The Christmas montage was really good seeing how each of them spend their Christmas (poor Smile) but goddamn that Karaoke. Kong with the AngelThump voice |

I didn't even remember that the humming was so present during Wenge vs Smile, not that I particularly minded. Like I already said years ago, i think the direction for this match was like, super good, and the scene with the airplane in particular was especially powerful. A shame that Smile felt the need to throw the game, though; Wenge must've felt even more shitty than he already did. Looks like Smile still has a long way to go. |

Kazama really should pay more attention to his waifu, I have not mentioned her yet but she's pretty great and supportive but damn he dun give a fuck. I love the fact that both Smile and Peco are getting coached by previous pros that has since long ago retired and all our main chars did was train this episode. I have a feeling the matches later on will get pretty crazy. |

Do you actually legit seed Pullman or "fake" seed like me? I do seed, not even sure what you mean with fake seeding? But my internet sucks so I can't upload very much data volume but the Yen system on AB makes up for that. And Hit & Runs can easily be avoided, you just have to set the torrents to seeding for a set amount of time per torrent but the majority of the time there won't be any leechers anyway, the torrent program just has to run for it to count as seeding time and for you to get Yen with which to buy upload credit and stuff. And there is also a lot of Free leech on AB which doesn't impact your ratio. Everything 1080p is freeleech (that is the big one), every few weeks there are 48 hours of freeleech, the anime of the forthnight which changes every 2 weeks is freeleech, before halloween all anime tagged with horror were freeleech, on special occasions like the site anniversary there is freeleech and so on. So as long as you technically seed to avoid hit and runs you don't need to upload a whole lot to keep your ratio decent. I downloaded around 1TB of data so far from AB but officially I only downlaoded 93GB because the rest was all freeleech. My official ratio is around 4.00 right now, but my actual ratio is 0.1 because I download a lot of freeleech and buy a lot of upload volume with Yen. You can also crossseed a lot, for example all the seasonals. But you don't even need to do that if you're mostly gonna use it for 1080p versions. But there's a lot of options to maintain ratio even with a shitty internet connection like mine as long as you can just have your torrent program running in the background. |

Sometimes they can detect this but most of the time not since I haven't been banned for years even though I just use it on few occasions since it tend to seed out a lot with the settings I input. But that's good to know. These days I tend to go with a lot of 1080p since got a new PC and even better internet and there is no worry on storage either since got 3TB internal HDD and then a 2TB external HDD if ever want to save some downloaded gems. |

Can't believe my boy Kong lost, well ok I kinda thought he would. Seems like he's been on a losing streak and it ain't stopping. Ok that was harsh and I still love him but it's nice to see Peco win against him this time around, pretty predictable it would happen otherwise all his development would be pretty awkward and back to square one again and an 11 episode show don't have time for that. I know we have Kazama left but I wonder if this will lead to a Smile VS Peco final match? |

Never thought about this until now but I really like the robotic sound effects with Smile in this match against Sanada since they see him as a robot with how emotionless he is atleast now. Smile smiling back then :) Also this episode basically confirms Peco really is the true protagonist of this show. Not surprsing given the cover used on MAL, Peco is actually the biggest and the one in the focus. The are both heavily relying on each other though. also.... where the fuck did Sakuma's hair come from, delinquent hair too LOL |

Kazama's first loss, wonder how that will affect him but seems like his match with Peco made him realize a lot of things and he actually smiled and enjoyed a match for once. Nice to get some background story finally about Kazama too. So the final match is gonna be between Smile and Peco? how could've not expected this already from the start. This is gonna get interesting. |

Well that was pretty enjoyable and liked it was only 11 eps, pretty easy to simulwatch since I just got out of Zegapain simulwatch. Had a feeling it would be Peco what won, he's the hero! also liked the timeskip at the end showing where they all are now and seems like Peco is the only one still in pro table tennis although he was a winner of that tournament and the rest of them were, well losers. I kinda like Smile as a teacher tho tbh. Overall a solid 8/10 but definitely wasn't without flaws, was hoping there would be more "bonding moments" and not only focus on table tennis but rarely if ever did they go out and did other things with the exception of the Christmas montages and while characters themselves had motivation for tennis it'd be nice to see more daily life stuff outside table tennis but it was quite a self-contained story. Kinda hoped they'd travel to another country and play too. Could be they didn't have time for that because of the show's length but maybe that's just me giving a shit about things like that. |
