I should catch up to slime soon :joy:

yea I mean KanColle or whatever was similar kinda, didn't know the ships or the history behind them.

Alternatively you get stuck working overtime three days in a row lmao.
I haven't tried tiktok yet looks like the brainrot is more concentrated there. Twitter is fine if you follow things relevant to your interests but other than that iunno, social media isn't for me.
Botato Jul 31, 3:27 PM
Alright fair enough ^_^'

Yea... Apparently the obsession with sex is ok because medieval setting. I didn't feel like it was that big of a problem or maybe I somehow learned to ignore it. Mind you, I only watched S1 of mushoku so maybe it gets worse in the second one or later, iunno. I do get your point though, but sadly money is spent only if there's even more money to be made so the popular isekai gets it. Wish my favorite manga were this lucky, sadge.
As for slime, I mean it is a LN through and through but I find it hard to be mad at much there. It's generally inoffensive outside of a couple moments and maybe one character.

oh. Hmm, yea maybe it wasn't you then. All I remember is those who watched GuP were shilling one of the movies that came out at the time, looked amazing visually at least but I never got around to it myself. I think I'd miss any history references they might have snuck in lol.

Balancing lets you do more, yea. Also taking breaks from writing is probably a good thing, I don't write but usually when I have an idea it ends up better when I give it time to cook in my head vs when I immediately try to do it, I imagine this applies to most creative processes. For me though, balance goes out the window lol. I just go through extreme phases; doing just one thing for a few weeks. But I also get phases where I just don't feel like doing anything so I end up watching random shit on yt or twitch and waste an entire weekend :D
That said its been a while since my last anime phase. I looked at that malgraph thing and my recent history is sad, rip.

It's the result of people focusing more on consuming than thinking, I feel :')
Like why read a wall of text and then reply with your own wall of text when you can just watch another movie in that time instead. FOMO is one hell of a drug.
Who am I kidding though, TikTok definitely ruined most people's attention span. Short-form content is king these days.

I mean maybe there's a comeback? Not sure how long or how far it will go but we'll see. I haven't looked at any data on the matter, so it could very well just be because I didn't pay attention to the boardgame space before recently. The part about them not being a thing here is definitely fact though; my friends were telling me their struggles back in the day.
I would absolutely love it if Arcades came back somehow, tho. I was born too late to experience them and after watching Highs Score Girl a couple years back I'm sold lol, seems like it was a lot of fun in the 80s-90s.

Alright, that's fair. Practice makes perfect :D
Although, one thing seems to be somewhat common with modern authors is depression. Stay safe man :feelshugman:

What did you hate about it? The main character? Because I definitely hate him myself lol. Some people got mad at me for talking shit about him actually. I wish LN writers in general, and isekai writers especially, would stop making 90% of their comedy just "mc is a horny lil' shit huehuehuehue" I guess the main demographic is a much younger audience but still man, sometimes a boomer like me wants to watch an isekai:p
Slime is pretty comfy. Focusing on civ building was neat, though I know there are at least 2 other titles that did the same recently but hey blue blob is cool.
Is this the same Girls und Panzer you were talking about before the great Discord migration? I can almost swear you were shilling it back then too xD

Ahhh gotcha. I've honestly been looking at socializing as a replacement to video games/anime. In the end it's all me spending my free time on something fun, but somehow feels easier to do than starting a new anime idk how that happens. It does help that everyone in the group is into similar things, like in college some people watched anime but we couldn't really "hit it off" over anime because we'd only have attack on titan (or similarly popular titles) as a common topic and that runs dry fast.... They'd also have horrible takes; my taste is obviously superior :)

I'm not aware of how things are over there, but yes I would expect board games to die when people can't meet up. Thing is, they weren't popular here in the first place, and somehow after restrictions were lifted they just blew up. I'm guessing maybe people really wanted to socialize again? Who knows.
Botato Jul 23, 2:35 PM
Yea that makes sense. Out of curiosity, are you taking any "classes" or listening to author podcasts etc or just trying to get better solely through practice?
Also I remember MAL was doing a webnovel thing some time ago, did one of your attempts make its way there? :o

Honestly as long as you are having fun, who gives a shit lol. It's same thing the old guard used to say here back in 2014 but anyway. In my case I used to have a lot of time; my old job was contract based and I never had to deal with overtime, so I had a lot of free time to watch all the isekai in the world lol. Things changed about 2 years ago, made a career shift and all. I still have free time of course, but considering how much shit I'm into these days it is never enough. last thing I remember watching was that Dragon Quest remake and.... One of the bnha seasons. I am technically supposed to be binging the Yugioh stuff right now but yeesh they have a lot of episodes.
Some isekai stuff was nice though. From the "recent" ones I think Slime and that jobless reincarnation are the most noteworthy (haven't been keeping up with them though).

Haha thanks man. COVID came at a really bad time for a lot of people, but I wonder if trump's effect on people has anything to do with your tolerance levels lol.
Personally I couldn't work during that time and things got much worse for my field directly after. I spent the near 2 months of restrictions grinding in Monster Hunter: World with friends, who introduced me to their friends and I introduced them to mine, and then the circle kept growing. Board games were also making a comeback post COVID so I got swept up with the group and discovered I like rolling dice, met more friends and started dipping into ttrpgs like Warhammer (haven't tried DnD yet, combat feels like it would put me to sleep). I even play yugioh casually now (both on Steam and irl with real cardboard).
Tl;dr video games and board games literally turned me into a bit of an extrovert over the past few years somehow lol.

Steam does these year review things now, it's fun looking back and seeing I played the exact 2-4 games all year with some minor exceptions. You can basically tell when I took vacations when there's a spike in play time :kekw:

Oh that's pretty cool, I remember back in the day you were flirting with the idea but didn't write anything seriously (like that O/U light novel thing, I regret not reading all of it before it got nuked). Did you publish the books/short stories? I'd be interested in checking them out if you did :D
Waging is a necessary evil these day, you gotta eat and live. But hey as long as the work environment is decent it's not that bad. I kinda miss anime though, barely watch a couple episodes when I can these days.

From that list I only see Ckan and Sape very rarely on Joek's server. But yes please say hi.
I am doing well yes, thank you for asking. Waging, playing mostly pc games, occasionally watch brainrot on yt and twitch. Fun times.
My circle of friends irl expanded quite a bit since Covid so I've been going out more often as well. Turns out human interaction is very good.
Botato Jul 18, 7:16 PM
Very neat, ngl.
How have you been man? You still in touch with the old O/U members? Please send them my regards if you are.
Botato Jul 16, 4:12 PM
Not much. You?

after all these years i randomly remembered your based shelter review, good shit
Eric_T123 Mar 17, 1:54 PM
"The shelter music video would've been better if the main character was a fat and ugly middle aged man".

idk why i expected an insightful review lmao. what a whole bunch of nothing

I must be very late to the party but planning to ready some of Osamu Dazai's books. I figured you would know about it, is it ok to read No Longer Human first?
itstwentyfifteen Jul 27, 2023 8:29 PM
Hi Zerg, Fullmetal here it's been a long time. Would be nice to talk soon a lot has changed.

Also wanted to ask if you are familiar with the films of Kenji Mizoguchi. I think they might fit your taste/preferences well, Ugetsu (1953) in particular.
Lucianael Jul 13, 2023 8:58 AM
I've got absolutely no clue if you will ever read this and let's be honest I'm like seven years late to the party but I don't think that you can judge a music video by the standards of a TV-Show or even feature length movie. I mean, you do realize how dumb it is to say that "The story of the music video is bad and thus it is the worst thing ever". Firstly, it is a music video and even if you don't like the music, it is still at least fine. Secondly, the story did everything it needed to do and it using it's medium to give itself some emotional weight can be called cheap but the reality is, that it worked for a lot of people. You can't expect a great story from a music video, which on the basis of it's medium can only deliver it's story through music and visuals (I know that there are like five sentences spoken at the beginning and end but let's be honest that doesn't matter). Apart from that, the story, while simplistic also is better then the arguably low standard of "music video story-telling" so you would need to call out every single video of it's kind, that also tries to have a story.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
