Hey, was that just Mamiko Noto. She totally sounds almost normal! I guess that;s what you get with her in the year 2000. That lady sure was rude though. It probably was her first time at a concert, sheesh.

Looks like they just wanted to make a trippy episode but all things considered it turned out pretentious and boring.

Reiko is my favorite character, so I love her debut episode. Each character is shown to have a tragedy or inner conflict, Reiko's is having selfish, workaholic parents, who provided everything for her except companionship and intimacy.

What triggers Reiko's gate? Playing music(or more importantly, the feeling of love or solace she receives from playing). One of her most precious memories is of her parents gifting her a piano, and this loving gesture by the parents is one of the only memories she has of them - love and music are intertwined for her.

Even Reiko's ditzyness is really a form of protection from this loneliness she carries. Reiko isn't dumb, she disassociates from reality in order to escape painful feelings. Yet she puts it all to wonderful use, aspiring to become a good witch who helps others and whose music creates wondrous illusions and inspiration.

Reiko is a really complex character that gets written off as a one dimensional ditz but is really a traumatized person who carries tremendous pain inside herself.

In this episode, her combative illusion is triggered by the Invader boss attacking her piano (her feelings of love from her parents), and this causes her to unleash hell. It shows her gate isn't tied to the instrument, but Reiko may believe it is until she is mad or emotional enough to open the gate in it's pure form.

Reiko is possibly the strongest Gatekeeper in the series, in my opinion. She has limitations that are more like trauma blocks in her mind.
