This year marks the 35th anniversary of the long-running mecha franchise Macross and the tenth death anniversary of the series' composer, Kentarou Haneda. In addition to the previously announced anime adaptation for 2018 and the upcoming anime movie, an orchestra concert of music from the Robotech series will be held to commemorate the event titled Macross: Healthy Wings Orchestra. The concert will be on September 17 at the Tokyo International Forum Hall A.

The concert will be featuring the music from the franchise starting from the first TV series, which aired in 1982, and its alternative 1984 film Macross: Do You Remember Love?. The concert has listed three main performers: Satoshi Uegaki as the main conductor, the 80-member Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, and Mari Iijima, the voice of one of the series' main heroine, Lynn Minmay. The voice actors behind Maximilian Jenius and Milia Fallyna, Show Hayami and Eri Takeda respectively, will be hosting the concert, among a few other staff and cast members for talking parts.

The sci-fi franchise Macross began in 1982 and is set after 1999, in an alternate history of earth and humanity. It has spawned multiple adaptations from four TV anime, six OVA series, six movies, and several light novel and manga adaptations. The latest adaptation is a 26-episode TV anime series by studio Satelight titled Macross Δ which aired during the Spring 2016 season.

Kawamori stated that he has no plans to remake the original. One of the reasons is to respect Hikaru Ichijo's voice actor.

Only Mari Iijima will be singing, as there are few cast members from the original Macross series who will be either hosting or participating as talk guests.
