THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Interesting film. Very blunt about its message, they literally spelled it out at the start, lol. It reminded me a lot of Chirin no Suzu (clear Disney influence, story with a moral for children, etc). A lot of rotoscoping used throughout the film. I didn't realize that the rotoscoping technique was that old (even tho I knew it was used in the original Superman's cartoon, so I should have realized). |

This was a weird film. I started watching it because I thought it would be interesting. I did like the animation but certain aspects of the film weirded me out and didn't make sense. |

If you could recommend some, I'd grateful.Even though this didn't adapt the entire Journey To The West I still find this a good movie and a nice addition to the other movies and series based on the story. The fact that it is China's first animated movie is just icing on the cake. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loqvh1cGXQA Good thing it has subs. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to understand it since I don't understand Chinese. |

It was pretty decent as the first chinese full length animated film and made during wartime. The message of the movie was pretty obvious though it was interesting how the townspeople worked together to defeat the demon instead of just wukong and the other disciples + maybe some heavenly official like later versions of the animated tale portrays Rotoscoping was pretty smooth, the transformations were somewhat disconcerting but also funny. I was shook when the pig casually took off his ear to fan himself lmao |

This movie just made me feel really bad for the "villains". Sure it was shitty for them to not lend out the fan but apparently Sun Wukong killed their son or something? So fair enough lol, I wouldn't give him the fan either. And then they got bullied into submission :( Also would've liked to see Princess Iron Fan have a bigger role in the movie, it is named for her after all. I.e. try to stop the pig after he revealed himself instead of just standing there and letting him leave, and participating in the final battle as well. Should've brought out the battle armour and sword again. Still, despite my criticisms, this is extremely impressive for the time it was made, and being made while the country was invaded? Jeez. Huge respect for the creators. |

That brief flash of a s s on 16:40 may very well be one of the earliest nudity scenes in animation? This is a very famous adaptation (well, a trilogy but the first movie is the best) https://myanimelist.net/anime/6855/Da_Nao_Tiangong Movies based on Tezuka's manga are also cool, like this one but the earlier ones are more well-known and influential https://myanimelist.net/anime/20189/Boku_no_Son_Gokuu |

Interesting film. So this is the earliest Chinese animated film in history. The movie is named after Princess Iron Fan but the most interesting characters are Sun Wukung and Zhu Bajie. I personally think the movie is much better named after the main protagonists, but the plot is to "acquire" the iron fan that can quench the flames of Fire Mountain, so it makes sense that the movie is about the iron fan anyway. I'm really impressed by the animation for such an old film. Very fluid animation. The rotoscoping was smooth in this film. Also, some of the character movements & animations look really hilarious. So impressive! Overall I'm giving this an 8/10 because it was very entertaining and impressive for the first Chinese animated film in history! |

This was fantastic, great animation, story that couldn't stop me from thinking about Dragon ball, and great conclusion. |
