Wanted to make a thread for the manga readers of this show. I wanted to get their thoughts. I haven't read this manga, so it would be interesting to hear what you guys think...without spoilers of course.
I haven't updated in years but now I have changed that. I'll be free soon.

This is just as I expected it to be minus the necks being a bit larger than I imagined. So far it's meeting my expectations as a meh series but then again maybe I'm being biased since i'm waiting for the next arc where I fell for the manga.

The necks are fucking memeworthy. Production I.G. is better than this.

Adaptation wise, it's pretty loyal. But those goddamn giraffe necks are irritatingly bad. The manga's art felt less exaggerated and overall, it feels a lot clean. It's obvious that the studio is intentionally keeping the neck long and I don't know why. Do they actually think that they look good like that? And to be honest, the animation is also limited with some still frames, etc. Still, the anime is almost and enjoyable as the manga. Minus the necks, everything is fine.

I honestly think that it has been a meh adaptation. Had MAPPA went the still frames and Giraffe neck route for Yuri on Ice you can be sure Yuri on Ice would not have been a fraction as successful as it was. Yuri on Ice is thin on plot but no one can question that they did a terrific job for the dance scenes and actually brought ice skating to life. So far it is kind of hard to justify recommending the anime over the manga for Ballroom e Youkoso.

A lot of that was recycle animation. They also reuse a lot of footage too. There isn't as many stills people are claiming with the show if you ask me.

The studio has adapted the manga pretty well I suppose. Although, I don't know why but the atmosphere of the anime just seems a bit more bizarre compared to the manga. It feels kind of awkward the way some things are presented for example the comedy and animation and when music is inserted seems out of place. The manga shows the comedy in a different way, it's hard to explain it.

Some scenes are cut out from the anime but it's expected when a manga gets an adaptation. It's not always going to be 100% but the introduction for Tatara entering the studio was a little different and played on later in the manga. If you want to know then I put it in the spoiler tag -

There are quite a few changes in the anime. I don't know if this is just me being picky but apart from that i'm grateful we're even getting an adaptation for it.

I said it in the other thread too but the anime adaptation is meh for me. Aside from bizarre long necks/limbs and haikyuu!!-like character designs, the anime also doesn't capture the appeal of the characters and the comedy falls flat most of the times. Everything seems awkward in the anime which was never the case in the manga. How the hell are the dance scenes more exciting/nerve wrecking in the manga? Why the anime version lacks the tension? I loved the humor in the manga including the sexual jokes. Anime didn't include the part where sengoku told shizuku that tatara was jerking off to her in front of tatara lol. His reaction was hilarious!

I know anime adaptation has to leave out extra lines or minor scenes but the cuts from the early episodes took away the charm from the characters. In the most recent episode (ep 7), they changed the way tatara noticed that mako was as scared as him. In the manga, mako starts to walk him to the dance floor by holding his hand when tatara notices her hand/body shaking so he takes her hand firmly and leads her to the dance floor instead. It was a such small but nice scene showing tatara taking the lead role. The anime version was lackluster to say the least.

Speaking of tatara, the anime took away his babyish look by giving him a sharp jawline and broad shoulders. In the manga, he liked a puppy. He was smol and super innocent. The anime tatara doesn't look cute or innocent, and definitely not a puppy! His VA is a hit and miss for me. Sometimes he gives very cringe worthy performance and other times he's just okay. So far he hasn't impressed me.

I'm grateful that we are getting the anime adaptation but I'm afraid that it's turning a lot of people away from the amazing manga. People who watch the anime look at the long necks/limbs, bland characters and lack of animated dance and think ballroom e youkoso sucks. In my opinion the anime isn't representing the true quality of the manga. The manga has beautiful art, great characters and super exciting dance scenes.

Not really. There's actually no real romance in general. The characters are too focused on dancing to worry about relationships. Shizuku and Tatara get some brief moments between them, but nothing I would classify as romantic.

Personally I don't have a big problem with the necks. I think it's a great adaptation. Sure the manga is great and all but something like dancing animated is alot more easy to get a grip of rather then reading it panel wise.

Don't get me wrong I love the manga but this is like for example a music anime like K-On. The manga isn't that good because you can't hear them sing or their voices. Which plays a big part in the anime version of K-ON. The manga to Ballroom is fantastic but seeing it animated is alot better.

I am actually okay with that. Changes things up if you ask me. Dancing is a very demanding sport.

It's following the manga perfectly.
Even the dumb fanservice scenes are in it.

Too much stills. Wish there were more moving, and less stills.

+ The manga is better.
But for the neck it's not a fail.
There is nothing more complicated than dance to product in anime.

Will probably adapt everything in the manga if not actually finish ahead of it maybe.

If that's going to happen, it will likely end up being rushed... :/

Chinatsu made her appearance in episode 11/24. She makes it in the manga in chapter 18 (heat 18), but the manga has already reached 46 chapters translated (heat 40).

18 divided by 46 equals 0.39 or practically 40%, while 11 divided by 24 equals 0.46 or practically 50% of the material covered (also note that the manga hasn't reached competition's conclusion yet). Essentially, from this point on, the pace would have to nearly double. Hopefully that's doable without having to rush things up, I hate rushing...
