I've been wanting to watch the old one for quite a while now, but I'm not sure if watching the old one is still worth it if we're going to get a new one.

(That's coming from someone who watched FMA before Brotherhood, though)

Yes the new is not always better then the old. BTW the old FMA 2003 is good too.

Who knows if this new one is even going to happen, I think there hasn't been any news in ages. And it isn't even sure what it will be. But I'm pretty sure it won't be a remake of the complete 150+ episodes. Maybe a remake of a certain arc, maybe adapting more material that hasn't been adapted yet. Idk. But I don't see hundreds of episodes of LOGH happening in todays market so I don't think this could even theoretically replace the old version, no matter how good or bad it will be.
I probably regret this post by now.

Well there's always testing waters out with a 12 episode season first. Or maybe an 25 episode CG season to cut down budgets. Could be possible. TBH, the remake really excites me as there's more potential to expand the beauty of LOTGH's world.

Production I.G. was involved with Ace of Diamond, which had 126 episodes over a span of two and a half years between 2013 and 2016. The original Legend of the Galactic Heroes only had 110 episodes released over 9 years.

If Production I.G. really wanted to, and if they deemed it financially viable, I reckon they could easily do the same 110 episodes over a span of a few years. AoD had the same level of art and animation quality (nothing fantastic, but solid) throughout, so I think it'd be even easier for them to maintain the same level of quality over a series like LoGH. With all the talking in the show, they'd only need to spend a lot of time and money on the big space battles, which only really start happening frequently ~25 episodes in until the end of
With CG, I would say it's perfectly doable.

Realistically though I see this only being one cour, maybe two. Then probably a 2nd series after a season or two's break with a grand total of 50 episodes.

Well, sports is one of the only genres that still has long-runners even though they are also dying out. It's mainly mahou shoujo, battle shounen and kids/family shows these days. LOGH never was the kind of show that could become a long-running TV show which is why even back then it was produced as OVAs. My point was not that there is no studio capable of making that many episodes, but that there is not a large enough mainstream market for the kind of show that LOGH is.

Also production IG has not much of a say in terms of how many episodes the production committee of either show orders.
I probably regret this post by now.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes is still fairly popular in Japan and has a cult status in the West, so I wouldn't be too sure of that. I just wanted to point out that it's possible, but not likely.

Watch the old one so when the time comes and this is released you can join us in complaining about how this new adaptation can't compare to the old one.

The new one will probably be better in voice acting, animation, soundtrack. So watch this one. The old one is largely overrated.

Idk, I much prefer Hikaru Midorikawa to Mamoru Miyano. While the animation is astonishingly better than the old one, the soundtrack is arguable to say the least. We're not sure if the classical songs will be replaced with more "thematic" soundtracks.

Plus, I think I might be the only one when I say this but I'm not particularly a huge fan of the new character designs. I miss Yang Wenli's blue hair and geeky looks. I'm a little worried about what they're gonna do with Reinhard's mane later in the series.

It is, of course, impossible to say what did what better, since the new version isn't out yet.

However, the old version is extremely well-done, so much so the only thing I really think the new one can improve on is the animation - but we shall see. Either way, the old one is worth watching.

watch the old one and looks like you have time to finish that before this airs even if you watch 1 episode per day. Sounds cool right? :P

Just watch the old you'll never regret it.This producers of this one is just counting on Its fame to milk it even further.I'm not expecting anything to top off the original but If they managed to then I will have no words for it.

Better ask this question AFTER it starts airing, no one knows if the remake is gonna be the same as the old show or if it's gonna turn into some fan-service shounen/shoujo garbage.

Also keep in mind that the old show is heavy on dialogue and not easy to follow, don't go into it expecting it to be entertaining, unless you're looking for something with good writing and don't care much about the lack of action.

Btw I liked FMA 2003 more than Brotherhood.

Can very much say "see the original" after seeing the 1st episode of the new one. It's impressive in its way in how similar it can be to the original and yet be so much more flat and hollowed out. It feels so rushed and even a bit disjoined yet it covers exactly the same core material as the original 1st episode. It does cut out almost all of the smaller elements of the first episode related to world building and fleshing out the series but I really can't say what it replaced them with in about the same time, it seems both more frenzied and rushed yet with far less happening. Plus the characters look pretty bad to me and the music isn't as good.

There are three kinds of intelligence: one kind understands things for itself, the other appreciates what others can understand, the third understands neither for itself nor through others. This first kind is excellent, the second good, and the third kind useless.
