Wow, that was a tense episode.

Trapped in a cage like birds. My favorite part this episode is when Yaichirou decided to take action and transformed. Such a badass moment and I'm not surprised by his actions.

That recuse by the guy in the funny mask is amusing. Got a good laugh from second half of this episode.

Don't worry members, the tranquilizer hit Kaisei so hard that she wake up after everything is solved. She is dreaming about foods. lol

Not a big deal but regarding to to how Kaisei notice Kureichiro was fake or weird, the biggest part was actually Kureichiro secretly meeting with Tenmaya on the sacred ground. After that Kaisei was followed by the gang sent by Kureichiro, under this situation Kaisei ran away from home.

The talk between Yasaburou and his father was great, they always find the best music to fit the scenes.

And indeed it is Soun behind the Kureichiro fake, wow. I'm looking at you now, Kaisei. What happened? :/ :/

Called it, Yaichirou (+ Gyokuran, ayyyyy) saves the day, wanted it to happen like this.

I'm honestly more interested in what Kaisei's role was in all of this ploy than what the preview shows. Benten got on my nerves and i'm not really willing to sympathize with her, it must take a real good and valid bit of information why she's acting like this.

What i'm getting at is that Kaisei could have known about this plan of Soun/Tenmaya (remember the episode with Soun ''shot'' on the ground, Yasaburou left Kaisei and Soun alone back then). How could Kaisei not know about this plan then?

Kinkaku and Ginkaku give me life.

Wow, Yaichirou is so cool. Gyokuran is great too. I think I like the real Kureichirou a lot. Meanwhile it took me 10 episodes to start liking the Nidaime.

Glad that Yasaburou got to talk to his dad.

That was a great episode..

Wonder how Souun managed to trick everybody including Kaisei (?)

Next Ep title "The Red String of Fate" totally gets my attention as we also see Yasaburo in a room where Benten is sleeping (?) in the preview..

Gonna be an intense Finale...

Gyokuran sure claimed best girl quick. Can Benten stop being petty all season?

Also, is the anime relation to the first season removed, or was it never there? Strange either way.

If anything I assume Soun had to have threatened Kaisei, probably about Yasaburo, in order to rope her into his plans. He probably told her as long as she helped him get the Trick Magister position, Yasaburo wouldn't get hurt. So if anything it's looking like they're setting Kaisei up as an understandably sympathetic character. I don't see her willingly going along with Soun's plan if she knew she would end up in a hot pot with Yasaburo, so if anything Soun probably tricked her into it, thus making it a sad situation for her to be in.

Kaisei probably found out about her "brother" being Soun somehow, which is why she decided to elope with Yasaburou. I don't believe for one second that Kaisei had anything to do with the situation that they're in.

I get the feeling that Soun tricked everyone, including Kinkaku and Ginkaku.

Oh and Yajirou confirmed ship. I'm so happy for him.

All we need now is a cute little female tanuki for Yashiro to be paired up with and all is well. Assuming of course that all the hanging threads get tied up.

Though to be honest, all I really care about is Soun getting destroyed. I have to wonder how Soun fooled everyone for so long about being Kureichiro. Sure, Kureichiro left a long time ago and the other tanukis probably forgot his smell, but Soun was only gone for at most 1 year and they've made it very clear that tanukis identify each other based on smell...

Lets not even get into how Ginkaku and Kinkaku were fooled, because they HAD to have been fooled. I don't believe for one second that those two idiots knew of the plan and was able to avoid slipping up for so long.

Also, Kaisei is still the best. Gyokuran is great too but freaking Kaisei man. Though Seiran shows potential too.

Fantastic episode.

I wonder if the real Kureichirou feels no loyalty to his father? Considering he gave him away like that.

And is there a reason why tanuki can't transform inside the cage? You'd think they could just transform into something smaller (e.g. a frog) and hop out of the cage...

Tenmaya and Soun should both be dragged to hell.

Hell yes boy Yaichirou x Gyokuran FTW!!!! Best Ship. Alll though Yajirou and Seiran make an interesting ship as well. Also the father named her so...thats interesting lol. he also named Kaisei as well.

Speaking of Kaisei I think she knows more about whats happening then Ginkaku and Kinkaku. Considering the interaction between Ginkaku and Yasaburo's mother.

Nidaime is a Gangster! He's so awesome.

I think it was explained in Season 1 that's it's a Mental thing when it comes to cages. Kind of like how each Tanuki has a weakness and they can't stay int heir human form, IE Yasaburo not being able to stay a Tanuki when seeing Kaisei.

For me she's been untrustworthy since the beginning. Not that I've thought her as 'malevolent' (like Souun), but as 'part of the problem'. From the time when Yasaburou watched her riding those whales I was thinking that she fit the type of "tragic female character".

Damn it Soun. I thought for sure that you died a few episodes back, but main was I wrong. >_<

It was sneaky of him to take the disguise of Kureichiro and he almost succeeded in taking the title of 'Trick Magister' for himself. Now that the real Kureichiro has arrived, I wonder what will happen to Soun now. Hopefully, he and Tenmaya will be thrown into hell, of course. =P

It does look like both Ginkaku and Kinkaku were also tricked by Soun as well, so I hope those two avoid punishment.

It's the final episode next week and the preview was certainly interesting, with Yasaburo visiting Benten, who is sleeping in a large bed. I'm guessing that scene will be tense for Yasaburo though.

They said in order to transform, the tanuki has to be in a stable or free condition (not sure, need to rewatch ss1) so when they're in a cage, they would freak out and can't transform.

I think the point of Benten's character is not that she's cruel from the heart, it's that she's too ambitious. She may be willing to eat the one she loves to get what she wants but that doesn't mean it won't hurt her (I mean she couldn't stop crying when she sees Yasaburo in the cage and I hardly think Benten is the type to be comfortable crying in public). And so I agree that she's a tragic character rather than a straight out villain. I think she's definitely debating with herself right now but slightly succumbing into her ambition.

In season 1 it points out characters can't transform if they are in cages on a instinctual level.

Ah! Just on the most beautiful, should it end? Oh well! After mentioning a possible impostor in the previous episode, the idea that a certain leader might return was quite plausible. Now Yajirou, too, has found the soul mate, so he will no longer live like a hermit. Could not believe my eyes when I saw Benten cry for the possible death of Yasaburo, who was in love with him? Jeez! This would be an interesting news. This show is already over, what a sadness!

Yes you are pretty close, Benten is indeed a very tragic character, full of contradiction. We must know her origin myth, which lead to the Friday club. The Friday club with a tradition eating just 1 tanuki every year, consists of 7 entity(any race), each representing the Gods of Fortune. Benten, who is Benzaiten, the goddess of beauty and knowledge.

Benten was kidnapped by Akadama-sensei without an acknowledgement from Benten herself when she was still young, cutting her out from many things, then her personality was slowly shaped through time after that.
-She is indeed very strong(can't compare to Nidaime as he live for 100+ years), and always claim that she is a tengu eventhough she is clearly not. But sometimes she claim she is human to give her the excuse to eat tanuki.
-She has the power to defy the fate and surrounding, yet many times she doesn't do that and simply follow what fate comes to her.
-Biggest question of all time, why and what is she crying for? is it just crocodile's tears? Just to point out she did cry in season 1 also. She is a good patron of Yajiro the frog. As you remember people go to the well just to "talk" & "consult", biggest patron of all is Yasaburo, Kaisei and Benten. Benten sometimes get teary when she goes to the well.
-Yasaburo did confess to her long ago, she rejected him and said their race is different. Still She likes Yasaburo very much enough to eat him.

"Caressing her hair, I knew it from my heart long ago"
"Who Benten needs is not me"
"A tanuki is just not enough"

Well to someone who is as strong as Benten, there is no good nor evil to define her, her actions come from either ambitious or see something interesting, the type that follows whats in front of her. We can just never understand this kind of people.

To me this episode felt a little rushed. But its heights were so great, I don't really mind. So many great exciting moments I don't even know where to start. So Ginkaku and Kinkaku were up to no good again. Really at first they seemed like comic relief. But what detestable characters. Although now that their fathers scheming has put Kaisei in danger. It seems like Ginkaku at least may be having a change of heart. I imagine he'll free Yashiro and the Mom and they'll come join in this insane conclusion.

So who we thought was Kureichiro was evil. As expected. And last second twist was Suon the whole time, somehow escaped death. Curious about that one. The real Kureichiro is a badass though. I was hooked from that first scene where he was cutting his hair with the sword. He's about to put the hurtin on his Dad.

Holy crap the Professor as Pom Poko Kamen was so funny. I got the giggles at his attempted jailbreak. He's so well meaning and so ineffectual, poor guy. Yaichirou and Gyokuran doing the twin tiger thing again was pretty damn cool too. I wonder if she always chose to become a tiger. Or did it after she became interested in Yaichirou. Either way they've already freed Yasaburo and Kaisei. Which makes sense only one episode left. But I doubt landing the flying bus will be that easy, Since Benten and Akadama haven't even made the scene yet. Seeming more and more likely Yasaburo's going to end up with Kaisei. At this point I think it's the best way to go though. A lot happened in this episode. But I imagine we have a ways to go next time before reaching a meaningful conclusion.

Thats gotta be the best episode of the entire season or best episode i've seen in a while in any anime. The execution was top notch.
I really liked how Yaichirou neglected his title saying he is far from his magnificent father but he will save his brother and then him and Gyoukaran running together transforming into tigers to save Yasaburou.
I liked Benten scene where she was crying that she has to eat Yasaburou T_T that one was really sad.
The twist with Soun, Yajirou to the rescue. Nidaime was helpful this episode with the gun reveal

And ofcourse Pompoko mask is my favorite hero, dude this guy is a legend.

Was this redeeming episode? Probably couldn't save the whole series but as for the ending arc it wasn't bad, it was actually good (side by side along ep8 the best episode in this season actually)

So many twists this time, really thrilling episode. Now I only wonder if the end is also as good, could change my bad opinion of this series, at least a bid.

-oh hey kinkaku is back to talking in his usual tone
-alright now we're back to the eccentric family mood with kinkaku and ginkaku stirring shit up
-did kureichiro just go off the deep end or something
-like seriously why did this show take about 11 episodes before legitimately becoming the continuation of the eccentric family
-the scene between yasaburo and souichiro felt recycled from the last season for some reason
-based yodogawa
-yodogawa is a fool
-based fuckin nidaime
-je
-bai
-ted
-now THIS is an eccentric family episode, although i had the slightest feel kureichiro wasn't who he said he was when yajiro was en route to kyoto

The vast majority of the second season might as well not exist, because this is one of the few episodes that actually feels like an Eccentric Family episode. You got your Kinkaku and Ginkaku in top form for once, Soun's back from a feigned death and ready to stir some shit up, things introduced earlier in the season are now falling into place, and everything's progressing towards a high-impact finale. And perhaps the most important thing is that Benten isn't around to muddle everything with her godawful presence.
