| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- That performance was really damn charming. One year before, the penguins were friends, too. The park is surrounded by water (the ocean) Humans were last seen at the harbor and that was a long time ago. Apparently the park seems to be in big danger cause of Bag-chan (''hat thief''). I'm pretty sure she did nothing bad but it's still an interesting point here. She still hasn't looked once what's in the bag. Princess-san was very concerned when it got mentioned that the previous generations didn't have five members but less than that. I wonder if that has any significance (i'd rather say it doesn't have any here since it could very well be that it was about the band itself and her struggles). |

| The group were off to a rocky start, but they did good at the end. Margay became their manager. The park is surrounded by water, so it's island. Humans were last seen at the harbor, but that was a while back. Apparently the park is in danger because Kaban stole a hat. That's interesting. |

| Great, now I can't get enough of this show despite the fact that episode 8 felt a little bit... clumsy, I guess. Where's my episode 9?! Actually, wait, I don't want it to end so soon. | I love how they incorporate animal features in the designs like the beak in emperor penguin and showbills hair. Even personality/behavior traits like Margays imitation of other animals. |
| So now the "Idol" finally appeared, and it's not for the Next Episode Preview. XD And from the words Margay used to comment about PPP's backstage rehearsal, I wonder if she better be some kind of manager or advisor for the PPP team. She also can predict where Princess is going when the nervous before performing got her. Yup, it won't take long for the offering to come. |

| and this is why Bag-chan should be in charge of solving problems - Serval would just throw people around. ok, from time to time she can still do it. Hululu makes Otter look like intellectual but she was still the best (with Emperor as second). Episode itself - it could have been better I guess. Conflict came bit out of nowhere but I liked resolution. And Oozora Dreamer is great song. As for "mystery"... so as in OP they are going to build a boat? And Raccoon-chan seems to be making all that stuff up as they go. PS. Nice bit of animation: right at the beginning when they were sitting on a tree - Serval's ears were reacting to sound Margay was making. |

I finally get to meet her. LMAO at Hululu's introduction. My waifu Friends name is Emperor and she's the Emperor Penguin. So perfect. She can rule me any day. DAMN! DAT ROCKER SIDE BOOTY! DAMN! "Sharon-oneesan"...get out of here, filthy English-speaking zoo lady. This is my weeb animal time. Uh oh, Princess-san has low self-esteem from not being in the previous generations. She handles her drama a lot better than American pop stars do, at least. Poor slow Hululu-chan... Humans were last seen at the harbor a long time ago? Why do I have the feeling there was some kind of tragic disaster? |

| This was an adorable episode. I mean, they all are, but it's so easy to warm up to PPP. Seeing them at the end of each episode, I wouldn't have thought they would be so endearing as this episode showed them to be. |

| In a low-key way, Kemono Friends is pretty interesting. I've noticed this before, but I'm really unsure if this is intentional or not. The Margay noted that PPP were in their third generation, which while is a reference to real life idol group functions, calls into question how long the Friends have been anthropomorphized. They've apparently been around long enough for three generations of PPP, whether this means the previous groups have retired or passed on. I think Kemono Friends spends a lot of time having fun conversations, exploring, and introducing different animals, leaving the world's functions to guesswork, inviting fan interpretation and theorizing. Though, this is probably far beyond the scope of what this show is trying to do, as it seems more like an educational series for children than anything else. That being said, I'm happy that this show at least offers that venue for guesswork, as it helps to make sure I'm constantly paying attention for any lore drops. That all aside though, this show is still dumb as rocks, the budget seems marginal at best, and we just got an episode of idol drama. There's definite love in the creation of this show though, at least through how well it sets up its mystical and comedic scenes. I still remember that scene with the dark underground tunnel looking oddly intimidating, despite being a mundane location in real life. In terms of comedy, just in this episode, I liked the small touch of Serval's ears slowly turning when she first heard Margay in the trees. Also, it's been a long time, but this is the first show in a while where I have a sort of head canon on the show's world history. Other shows I've seen either had it all explained explicitly, or weren't particularly interesting enough to ponder about. Maybe this is some post-apocalyptic world where the animals exist as spirits morphed into humans, and this is Kaban's purgatory drifting through to uncover what is left of the world? The part of the opening where all the Friends are shown with Sandstar fragments around them, plus their transparent appearance, makes me think that. There's also the ending credits where the empty park is inhabited by silhouettes vaguely resembling humans, as well as that vague memory of humanity left to only the oldest and knowledgeable Friends. Overall, Kemono Friends so far feels to be a simple show full of good feelings and general wackiness. I can't really praise it too earnestly though, as I can't really tell how much of this show is intentionally vague, but I can see the effort here, and I think that's the aspect of Kemono Friends that's praiseworthy. |
| Aww, penguin idols. PPP is so cute! ^^ Margay imitating everyone was very funny. I'm glad she became PPP's manager. She's really the perfect girl for that job. |
