Ah interesting episode, glad to see a little bit of history between Ikta and Nanaqu Dal.

Really liked the characterization of this episode especially the narratives. It's also interesting to note that Matthew lost a bit of his cool when confronting Ikta about some of the recent events. Not much action but I'm fine with it. The transition and continuity of the storytelling made it worthwhile. It's just a shame war took a lot of lives already. Ikta also has some major balls for cutting his finger off to get his point across imo.

This episode was over in a flash like usual.
It seems the new enemy might be just as abstract as Ikta so it might be a very interesting battle that's coming up.
Seems the powers playing behind the scene are starting to show themselves.
And Ikta gained some new allies to battle them.

So now Ikta is "successful" unlike the last one, for saving someone he cared about. But the girl is forget about him. This is just great. A cut to the pinky and some lesson about the traditional of apologizing and she's remember about Iktar.
The team member are each receiving a promotion, before they go to next episode War against La Saia Alderamin.

Goddammit, that Safida prick's really not gonna die is he? Fuck. Well the finger scene was rather unpleasant, Ikta suffering due to that asshole, among so many others. Shoulda beat him senseless and given him over to Aldera. The Matthew scene was nice, and this Jean seems interesting as a foil to Ikta...

Interesting to see how Ikta and Nana used to be childhood friends. And damn, Ikta is taking apologies to a whole new level. I'm also intrigued about seeing this clash between two guys who are literal opposites of each other.

Ikta sure puts his money where his mouth is, and it was awesome seeing our Red head not say anything at all when Ikta started cutting his pinky. I love how instead of the typical bigger bad thing, we get a this was all a part of a bigger plan that we even hinted towards earlier deal where now we see the real threat that is going on.

Super Hyped about the next episode!

Well damn, even more respect for Ikta. Hoping the commander of the garrison is reprimanded and dismissed for causing all those deaths on both sides. A harsher punishment is even better

At last, we go full speed into Volume 3 of the novels.

Three episodes of Ikta VS Jan is going to be cool ride, but at this point I am a worried that it will be either super rushed or Vol1 epilogue will be cut entirely.

In the northen garrison: Liutenent general Safida is horribly unskilled, and any of his nominal achievements were based more on his second-in-command, liutenent commander Toark who was actually competent, but was killed during episode 7 thus creating a leadership vacuum that nobody else was able to cover.
The nortern garrison itself is sort of a dustbin for the less skilled officiers, because supposedly there is no chance of war, just a bunch of pacifical tribes with a decentralized chieftainship.

Outside of the northen garrison there is plenty of competent officiers.

Gotta love Ikta. Even with half a pinky down he can still be flirtatious with the ladies.

I was kinda hoping that a story that's as well written as this one wouldn't go with the white haired child genius cliché, but I guess certain clichés are hard to overcome.

So, Ikta is now facing mediaeval Char Aznable Jean Alkiniks. Interesting. Does anyone else feel that Kioka is actually the likeable faction of the two?

Yatori was suprisingly calm at Ikta's self mutilation, which was a very bad idea by the way. There is a reason Yakuza cut the left pinky: the left pinky is the sword pinky. A warrior really needs that pinky. Cutting it is a sing of submission.

There was also no jealousy on Yatori's side on the encounter with Nana. This series really deserves credit for handling things like that the way it does. That said, I'm still on the Ikta x Yatori ship.

Really enjoyed this episode. They did everything good with the characters, Ikta's way of winning the tribe people thingy "heretics" to their side and showing some of Iktas background as well.

Also, the introduction to a new antagonist for our genius. It is nice to witness someone that can be called, Iktas rival. I look foward the showdown between them in the up and coming episodes.

So what if Ikta cut off his finger, we know he isn't going to wield sword and charge towards the enemy. His main strength is his wits and commands the battlefield.

The ep felt rushed at some points. Ikta and Co. arrived quickly where the empire army was plundering. So Nana and Ikta had a history, which he used to gain her support to repel the incoming enemy invasion army. Gotta be fun now that Ikta has a better rival.

There has never been a bad character named "Nana" in anime. That is just a fact, and the trend continues in Alderamin as well. On top of that, Ikta is one smooth bro. He's gonna have one massive harem of the freakiest girls at the end of the series.

Also, white Lelouch incoming. This shit about to get cray cray.

So Ikta was acquainted with Nana before during the time when Ikta went to the Sinack village, the time he talked about before too (I think).

And the soldiers get carried away with the war and end up killing innocent people, burning down houses and probably almost raping women. Ikta is of the opinion that killing combatants in a fight is okay, but harming the innocent people who can't fight back or torturing them is wrong. Even if they're prisoners of war they shouldn't be tortured or harmed.

And the religious army shows up to fight those who broke the religious code or whatever by abusing the spirits. Ikta asks for help from Nana too because the Holy army is going to kill everyone even the Sinacks because of their heresy.

And Ikta discovers that all this was a set up by the neighboring Kioka. They helped the Sinacks in fighting back and then had La Saia sent after the empire with the excuse of abusing the spirits. And the person behind this is a brilliant tactician like Ikta. And now the Unsleeping guy will be up against the lazy guy in a battle to see who the better genius is.

If you think instigating a Holy War from a previously neutral nation against innocent "heathens" as likeable, then I guess. The Kiokan Republic is just as scummy as the Empire.

Jean, however, seems to be like Ikta though. Practical and analytic, but let's see where his moral compass lies.

Of all the f-ing things that happened..............the finger, God dang it, this still is freaking disturbing. I ain't gonna miss the assholes that Nana sliced, and interesting that she and Ikta knew each other.

And then the group becomes stronger together and with promotions to match. The plot twists were.........wow quite some material and now we face Lelouch the Sleepless vs the Lazy Tactician.

Great episode again.

Nana's fight sequence in the beginning was really well done, I'm glad Yattori and Ikta were able to get to Nana in time. Ikta's stare when he said "I have no tolerance for beasts" gave me chills.
Interesting to see that Nana and Ikta knew each other when they were kids, Ikta seems to have traveled to a lot of places eh?

Damn, Ikta cut of his finger, Respect man. Sucks that Ikta has to be the one who has to do all this shit to apologize for the actions of his superiors.

Nice scene with all the 5 of them showing the conviction to be a part of the retreat covering squad.

Ikta's rival definitely seems like a white haired Lelouch xD , That is Jun Fukuyama voicing him right?
The Unsleeping vs the Lazy . These upcoming episodes are definitely gonna be great.

Can't pinpoint any one thing, but I feel like they got this show and it's philosophies right on so many levels. I love how Ikta manipulated Nana into accepting his terms by sacrificing his pinky. As much as he probably truly wanted to apologize, it was still manipulation at it's finest. He needed her men to deal with the invading Alderamin, and it was the fastest way to get her to agree. Ikta is such a boss.

Not sure why white hair would choose to help that army though. Isn't he suppose to be originally from the Empire? Why would he choose to plan an invasion on his own country, for a neighboring country no less?

White hair isn't from ikta's country, but the country that ikta's party ended up stranded in in episode 1. What he's there for is to help the northern country take over parts of ikta's country, force them to divert resources, and most likely, force them into a two front fight. This would be highly, if not extremely advantageous for the Kiokian republic.

I think that if he told her who he was, it wouldn't be nearly enough for her given the amount of pain and suffering brought upon her people. However with the way he carried out the punishment that is a part of their code, and explained how he knew about it, he more or less confirmed who he was to her, and told her how he learned of the punishment story. Simply straight up telling her: Oh we used to be childhood friends isn't going to cut it, and while it was also manipulation, I think he from the bottom of his heart hated having to participate in the war. You saw the look of disgust on his face when he discovered the locked up spirits in the dungeon at the northern garrison.

A few things I liked, I was questioning the air rifle scene from the last episode and I'm glad they brought up back up. If they had ignored that I would have seriously been bothered by it because it's a crucial element to the story.

Secondly there's one thing that I'm extremely glad that they reinforce throughout the shows. Ikta and his companions RESPECT THE CHAIN OF COMMAND. They may not like the orders, they may not like the commanders but they still respect the chain of command unlike lots of shows with protags doing their own thing and getting away with it. I like that they follow regulations to get what they want.

Jan is from the republic, and given that the republic "ghost police" was involved in stirring up and arming the revolt, apparently there is a bigger plan to weaken the empire.

The aldera church, being the central religious entity of the world, can have officiers from any nation serving in its holy orders.

Every time this question is asked one should seriously question the choice of not adapting Vol1 epilogue after episode 4.

That said:
- Yatori and Torway came from 2 of the "big 3" noble families in the Empire and diserting would hurt the standing of their families. We had a flashback at the start episode 1 with Ikta asking to Yatori to flee from the empire with him, but they are here serving in the army so since episode 1 it was estabilished that her sense of duty is far too strong for her to disert, even if she reckons that the empire is corrupt.

-Matthew is in a similar position: his military career and him being a wind spirit officier (thus commanding a wind gun squad that is considered the most prestigious and important in the army) is literally the hope of his family, a minor (and sort of penniless) noble family that is finally given the chance to strike it big.

- Haro reasons are not very developed at this moment of time, just accept that she goes with the flow. She actually has a very compelling reason to stay in the army but is revealed in later voumes (far after the scope of this anime adaptation).

- Ikta and Chamille actual reasons should be know, but were cut from volume 1 adaptation, they will be possibly adapted at the end of the series, though episode count seems a bit too strict. However we also know that Ikta is willing to use his tactical prowess to protect his friends (look how much Canna's death weighted on him and how much he was relieved from saving Nana) so obviously he won't bail out from a situation where otherwise all his friends would most likely die horribly.

Looks like Ikta had a history with the Chieftain of Sinack, Nana. A lot of developments are happening as the war with the Sinack is over, they are immediately faced with another battle.

Ikta truly is THE man. His plan to delay the La Saia and his sacrificing his pinky to have the Sinack's Chieftain Nana help out was great. I don't like how it was convenient that she was the leader but oh well.

Looks like Ikta is going into a chess battle with someone who is as smart as he is by the name of Jean. This is getting really exciting.
