I haven't read the manga myself but I heard from some people that you need to read Suzuka before Fuuka.

You don't 100% need to, but it's definitely recommended to read Suzuka first (don't watch the anime though, it doesn't cover very much and won't resolve the issue)

Fuuka is kind of a next generation story

For Suzuka fan or just a close acquaintance with her, Fuuka will be quite bitter work. But for a more complete immersion in the story that it would be helpful. P.S Sorry for my english

U don't need to read Suzuka before watching Fuuka, but you'll spoil yourself Suzuka after a few episodes of Fuuka... So i believe it's better to read Suzuka first :D and while you're at it, read Kimi no iru machi if u like Suzuka.

Well, Fuuka already pretty big spoiler to Suzuka. However, you can always see his 24 -episode adaptation, is easier.

Well, I'll just skip this anime. One day I'll make myself read 'Suzuka' and then 'Fuuka' and only then I'll check the anime adaptations.. Hope this won't take a lot of time, cuz I'm not a manga reader, and I heard 'Fuuka has some great drama too..

In this case, it is better not to read the discussion before reading the manga or watching the show. Because, in this case, even simple allusions can lead to a spoiler

I've read Suzuka but I still haven't read Fuuka yet. However, I know how Fuuka is related to Suzuka and their characters.

In my opinion, you don't HAVE TO read Suzuka to read Fuuka, though you would have more pleasure reading (or watching) Fuuka if you had read Suzuka before. It's not like you won't understand the story, though.

If you haven't read Suzuka before some characters will be just there, like they were just another usual character from a slice of life show, but if you have read Suzuka before they won't be 'just another usual' character from a slice of life show.

It's like Fate Stay and Fate Kaleid. You'll just fully enjoy Fate Kaleid if you have watched Fate Stay before (I won't explain why due to spoilers), but you don't HAVE TO watch Fate Stay before to watch Fate Kaleid.

That is it =)

PS.: Suzuka's manga is big (171 chapters) and the anime does not fully cover the manga.

You don't need to, but if you REALLY want the backstory, you must read the suzuka manga. Watching the suzuka anime won't involve anything with Fuuka whatsoever cuz the anime was not finished.

So, I'd recommend reading the suzuka manga any time before the fuuka anime comes out.
One dream that will probably never come true: A full anime adaptation of Kimi no Iru Machi or Suzuka anime reboot.

If you're familiar with the manga 'Handa-kun' and 'Barakamon' then 'Suzuka' and 'Fuuka' correlates similarly.

Suzuka is essentially the prelude to (not all but most) characters in Fuuka. The prelude gives a base to work with and Fuuka branches off from it introducing new a story line which references its predecessor.

I'd recommend that you read Suzuka first.
Because first of all, the main female character is tied to Suzuka.
Plus, side characters from Suzuka make cameo appearances in random chapters through the Fuuka manga.

i watched sazuka years ago so i cant wait. but its a prequel and sazuka was made in 2005 before twitter and smart phones yet this one talks about twitter and smart phones i feel like how i felt when they made the prequel to spycho and make it take place today movie even though it was made in the 50's-60's and the show take place years before the movie. this type of prequels are mind boggling lol

Nah you don't need to. Don't listen to others. characters from Suzuka just made cameo appearance and were briefly mentioned (that's all you need to know). nothing related to the main plot of Fuuka at all.

I don't think their is a real need to read it because their is a very small connection to the events in suzuka, in fact you wouldn't even notice that your lacking a thing if you didn't know Suzuka existed at all, to me its not so much of a sequel because the characters in Suzuka have a very small role in Fuuka

MY two cents (tho most of this is covered above):

It really depends on how they approach some of the key points from Fuuka. As many have said the Suzuka anime leaves a bit to be desired, but it is a good show in its own right.
If in the Fuuka series they broach topics not very well covered in the Suzuka anime then you will run into some confusion.

I would say if you're gonna read one then read both. It will probably be true also that if you're gonna watch one then watch both. I imagine they will approach much the same as the first anime and probably gloss over a few things.

Also.... I'm super freaking excited for this. I haven't even managed to catch up fully on the manga as every group I come across seems to drop it or pass it on.

I mean to be fair that isn't even really that big of a spoiler or anything. Doesn't really reveal much for the actual fuuka story.

It just feels more rewarding if you read/watched Suzuka and also Kimi no Iru Machi before starting Fuuka. In case you are only planing on watching Suzuka anime without continuing the manga, I don't think you should bother with it.

As mentioned before the suzuka anime doesnt cover the whole manga and wont give you much to work with.
the manga is pretty long but its good. hence if you want to enjoy a good romance manga I would recommend you read it but it really is not necessary to be able to understand the events happening in fuuka. Suzuka will just supply a bit of a background story to fuuka but not much. of course when you watch/read fuuka you'll spoil suzuka for yourself.
On another note a character from Fuuka also made an appearance in kimi to iru machi and technically if you read that then you already have just a tad bit of a spoiler.
But yeah all works all linked but talk about different things. It's your choice whether you want to read it or not.

I would recommend to read Suzuka - this way you will enjoy it much more by knowing some details. Few times while reading/watching Fuuka you will go from like "some Suzuka lady" to "f*** yeah - she finally makes appearance".

And in my opinion few last chapters are giving really heavy message to the reader which can resonate on later Fuuka chapters - hopefully anime will show full story this time, even if divided to seasons.

Kimi no Iru Machi references are almost not noticable... So you don't have to read it.

you don't need to read Suzuki, the characters, Yamato and Suzuka have only a minor role. nothing else really links them together other then Fuuka is there child. anyway just enjoy the story and prepare for the feels

Wait, this comment has me slightly worried. Fate Kaleid was entertaining, but it really wasn't super good or epic compared to Fate/Stay or Fate/Zero. So, will Fuuka pretty much come across as an average SoL show if you haven't read Suzuka before-hand?

Fuuka can be good even if you didn't read Suzuka before-hand, but you would enjoy even more Fuuka if you have read Suzuka before-hand, because they're somehow related.
