Just got back from this, and let me summarize it.
When I go to a convention, 75% of what I do is.. SHOPPING SHOPPING SHOPPING. So considering this con is mostly a dealer's room, some cosplay in the hallway, and a viewing room with games and anime... I found this con quite satisfactory for my purposes.
Right after you pay for your ticket and get a stamp to enter, you go into a rather long room. This room is filled with tables of anime and dvds, wall scrolls and plushies etc. This room is actually owned by One Million Comics, and is probably the best deal out of the entire dealers area. They had one entire side of the room filled with tables of manga that was HALF PRICE of the US COVER PRICE and NO TAX, so most of the manga ranged from 5 dollars to 8 dollars. It was an amazing deal for manga. Actually, I've never seen prices this good even at AnimeNorth. At Anorth the best deals I got were buy 2 at US cover price and get the 3rd free! And today it was basically buy 2 get 1 free! Then on th eother side of the room there were tons and tons of DVDs. The complete set DVDs were regular price, but there was an entire table or two dedicated to single volume dvds that were only 5 dollars each. It was really cheap.
When you walk passed this initial area, there is the main dealer's room which is full of plushies, artbooks, more manga, pvc figurines, models, pocky, all sorts of accessories. Even funny little mousepads by which you rest your wrists on the breasts of an anime girl (lol), and they're soft too, I tested them out. =)
I was in the dealer's room for a good 4 hours or so. The rest of the con was just cosplay in the hallways, and some anime games and a guest voice actor was there too.
all in all, for 10 dollars it was worth going, since the cosplay part was fun, and I got some really good deals on manga, and other things.I picked up some light novels, manga, and an osaka plushie! My friends actually bought entire sets of manga for really good deals! somehow I ended up spending the least amount of money, which is kind of a first. lol
Would I go again? Sure, if I had nothing else to do on a Sunday, this was actually quite fun, and I ended up getting some REALLY insane deals on manga.
I only wished this lasted a little longer, and had more things to do other than shopping. Artist's alley could have been bigger too.
If anyone else went to this event, please go ahead and write down your experiences with it. |
