Explain to me how I can get my girlfriend into anime. orz
I watch seinen and shonen, and it's either one of two categories: violent, mature-themed, gory, full of weapons and dystopia, or cute, happy, and light.
My favorite forms of anime:
1. Darkness, gore, and the occult - Anything involving hell, darkness, gore, otherworldly creatures, ghosts, shinigami, etc.
2. Girls with Guns - Nothing gets my adrenaline going like watching Revy from Black Lagoon unload round after round into her enemies, all while making sarcastic remarks.
3. Themes based around human flaws - A good example is Jigoku Shoujo. Each episode twists a specific flaw into a revenge scenario. This is often greed, jealousy, selfishness, etc. Something which made one character hate another.
Why anime?
It all started with Dragon Ball Z back when I was 13. I used to get up early on Saturday mornings to catch the Frieza saga rerun on YTV. It always started and stopped at the same episode, never getting past the ginyu force. I'm pretty sure the FUNimation dub only went up to this point. But I digress. One of my friends used to give me subs on VHS tapes. They were horrible quality but I was just so fascinated that I was one of the only kids able to see subs. Back then, torrenting did not exist, and fansubbing was rare.
I was also a huge fan of Sailor Moon as a kid, embarrassingly. I used to tape it. :S While watching a rerun one day, I admit it - I remember feeling the first signs of an emotional response that anime often brings about. American cartoons don't do this, and this is probably in my top 3 reasons for loving anime.

Actually I've seriously dropped anime too... are we growing out of it?
I cant even sit and watch a whole episode of the stuff thats new out today.
I havent even read a single manga I bought back in May during ANorth. lol what is wrong...?
I tried to watch the series but it was basically too predictable for me, I already knew what happened, which ruined the suspense for me.
The author is basically my favorite mangaka other than Osamu Tezuka, I'm trying to collect 20th Century boys (as you know) which is Naoki Urasawa's other masterpiece. =)
