Questions about Tamako Love Story

I'm planning to watch Tamako Love Story as a lot of people said that it was good and heartwarming but I couldn't find anything about the thing that bothers me. So the question is should I watch Tamako Market before the movie? I see that people have mixed feelings about this show so I would rather skip it. Or is the show worthwhile? And would I understand the movie without watching the show?

It's a super film. One of the best romance slice of life movies I've seen in anime. You don't need to have watched the series to enjoy the film at all. The series is a disappointment but the movie is a joy.It might be useful however to watch episode 9 of the series for the backstory of Tamako's mum to have a deeper understanding of the movie but it's not necessary.

It would have been better to post this under the anime specific forum rather than on the recommendations section though...

Xenograph pretty much said what I would have.

If you like moe, watch the series. If you don't like it, you probably rather skip it and just watch the movie. Like Xeno said, episode 9 is pretty useful and also one more thing in the spoiler tag below is good to know. Click it at your own discretion.

But yeah, the movie's awesome. It's so adorable. Watch it.

I don't think there is much point in watching the movie if you don't know the characters. I liked the TV show a bit more than the movie anyway.

Though the series has it flaws, I think you should watch the series first so you'll not get confused in the movie on why a character acts like this.

I'm pretty sure it's canon. I think it's a good addition to the movie as she plays a valuable role and we see her character grow too.

Well, anything is debatable, but if you watch Episode 2 it's all about that with Dera consoling her; Kannna already states that "There's nothing wrong with someone loving someone" to Midori, while stating that "Tama-chan's only head over heels with the Market".

In the film we know that there were Mochizou and Midori at the funeral when Tamako's mother, Hinako, died. I can understand how Midori had developed special feelings towards Tamako as sort of special friend and guardian (and how painful would it be when Tamako only recognizes Mochizou and forgets that Midori was there as well). I wouldn't want anyone to simplify it as just a lesbian sexual attraction.

I'm still convinced that Midori didn't have romantic feelings towards Tamako. She loved her in a different way, love comes in many forms.

You should watch the series first. I watched the movie first and I got the jist of things but there are still things in the movie that aren't explained because they think you watched the series first. some parts won't make sense. So watch the series first

No .... unless you want to toss away all the building of characters and relationships. If you skip it, it would make the movie much more watered down.

You should never skip content if you want to get the full experience and impact.
