| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Yay! I like when they play baseball. =) But when is Shigeno going to learn "English" (ie: stop asking what everyone else is saying in Japanese)? I get it, he's in America, I don't mind suspending my belief and having them just understand each other -- because I can't deal with him using Yaginuma as a "translator" all season long. ;) |

| Another awesome episode. I was a little shocked that they actually have some racist people on their team. Goro surprises everyone as usual :D Can't wait for more! Hopefully he'll learn English soon :P |

I was confused a few times whether or not Goro was being translated. I think the idea is that Goro's Japanese is always Japanese and his English is English. Everyone else's (except Yaginuma) Japanese is actually English. Yaginuma's Japanese is sometimes Japanese and sometimes English -- depending on who he's talking to (he speaks Japanese to Goro and English to everyone else). The racism is unfortunate, but I'm guessing it's a "simple" conflict to put in there for Goro's charisma and baseball skills to overcome. ;) ("I used to be a racist, but after playing 9 innings of baseball with you, I've had a revelation!") Erk, was that rhetorical? |

| I think lowell is right : ). Plenty of racists where I used to live here in Sweden though so I can kind of relate. I'd be disappointed if they became all buddylike after one game though. I don't see why you all think it's a bad move though? |

| Yeah, I'm not confused by the languages at all, but I think Goro should learn some english sooner or later. I wouldn't want him to depend on Ginumachi all the time. |

I laughed at your sig as I saw Jan 23rd - Pokemon Diamond & Pearl in front of it : ). Pokemon does kinda fit in the same category. So I looked at his list and he watched Naruto and Naruto Shippuuden is on his currently watching list. Well to comment on Goro learning English sooner or later. Well do you want Goro to learn English during a baseball game or what? Not going to happen for a while dude. Anyways I think that it's better for him to be called Honda Goro instead of Shigeno Goro. |

| The racism was a twist I wasn't expecting. Despite that, the game is a situation we have seen far to many a time in this anime before. Also I hate the opening song, very jarring. |

| The new opening song is hideous!!! Who signed off on that!?!?!? In regards to the racist dude, racism is unfortunately still something that some people have to deal with. I don't see anything wrong with acknowledging that in anime, even if it's unpleasant to watch. It's something new for Goro to have to deal with. |

| I just finished watching the movie "42" about baseball and racism was pretty bad in there. So I was not surprised anymore about that racist dude. But hopefully, Goro will learn and understand english. It's pretty frustrating if he cannot communicate effectively with his teammates. But this is getting good so far. |
| I had noticed Bolton's choice of a wooden bat last episode, so I'm glad they touched up on that at the top of this episode. Hearing Kaji Yuki as a black guy is cracking me up. I like how they're sticking with the language barrier, even though it's less convenient it's supposed to be. Ohhh man, racist prick seems like bad news, keeping his personal ego above the game. Also I'm guessing that blonde guy in the opening is Joe Gibson's son, but time will tell. |

The thing I'm wondering though is : can a pitcher really play in the american league if he can't speak english..? Communication is more than important as a pitcher, how will he manage to give direction? He can't always rely on a traductor. |

Beats hearing bad Engrish all the time, and they probably didn't have the kind of budget to hire English speaking voice actors, since they would need quite a lot. And not sure why everyone is upset with Goro still not speaking English. He certainly won't learn the language this day in the show. He'll most likely learn it when he joins the team. |

| Tfw the one time Japan doesn't stereotype black people in one way or another, they throw in white guys that are so racist you'd think they came the United States as it was over 60 years ago. -.-; I mean, it's not like there isn't anyone like that in America, but the odds of having that happen with both of the only two white guys to make the tryouts is so low that's it's just weird. Anyway, I'm thinking this tryout is for more than the rookie league. Hopefully Gorou will learn English once he joins a team. |

| didn't thought they will actually bring on the racist topic like this, glad that goro acting like we excepting. I actually like goro's group, I hope they will be with goro for the continue, though hopping those racist will fail. and the little "twist" at the end wasn't new to us, we already met that goro behaviour from S2, only it seems S3 changed goro for the best for not repeating S2 behaviour. and goro should learn english alredy, though they got rid from engrish with subtitles it's still annoying they talk japanese and we should believe goro doesn't understand them. and I have combined emotions for the opening theme, I don't know if I want it to grow on me or not. and when goro painted his hair in blue?!? |
| I love how everyone is shocked at Salmons try-outs while Goro just looks in confusion and vice versa because of the language barrier. Making clear he doesn't want to cooperate with 'colored people' sure was an unexpected twist, I wish those rascist mofos the worst. |

| Welp, looks like the staff at SynergySP completely gave up on the Engrish lol. The racism part was completely unnecessary though, as it doesn’t add anything and is just there for cheap conflict. And considering it’s Major it will just be resolved in the next episode. Also, that CG in the beginning of the OP was so poorly rendered lmao. Seeing the CG makes me believe that production was likely transferred to SynergySP because Hibari wasn’t able to produce it in the timeframe that NHK and ShoPro wanted, so ShoPro just contracted their then affiliate to handle it instead. At least the core staff from the Hibari adaptation were able to transfer over to SynergySP. |
