The episode was fine, I didn't notice any rushed pacing but I have not read the novels. I prefer the season 1 artstyle by far though I'll get used to this. Yukino seems like she's mellowed down quite a bit.

To be quite surprised, feel. worked with the second season? Damn, thats why the art was so goddamned vivid with more detailling parts than before. I don't quite like some changed to the others character too, especially with the changed of art. Like that Ebina, i found her to be not specifically interesting in the first place. He was like, an NPC. But, here, she could actually shine a bit with her own arc. Lmao. Congratulations, she ranked up a bit into supporting characters, rather just an extras. Fortunately, her shitty BL maniac behaviour still intacted there. If not, damn, i might be fall in love with her. Yeah, i really dislike the changed.

If i can be honest, that brighty color theme felt weird to me too. Its bring different hype from the first season. Idk, man. That improvement make me worried. Gladly the seiyuu still in the same positions. Its really a relieved information. The opening, and ending songs felt weak too. Idk, man. This is my honest impression toward the first episode. I am not satisfied much with the improvement. I better recommended the first season art style, and the ost. Even some CGI felt rigid and lost the movement. Sighed.

Okay. On to the more plus points of these continuations, the characterization still the same. Gladly. Only that? Yep, only that too. An improvement? Yukino now had a guts to put some embarassing expression toward Hachiman! Lmao. That was a sudden checkpoint, while knowing that expression never happened before, only on the filler and OVA. Shit. Its too fast, imho. My complain was done there. Next episode....

I'm actually kinda shocked by the number of people who unironically prefer the look of S1 over this. Like I really don't get it. The animation and character designs are WAY better, and there's a lot less derpy looking moments. The first season legit looked like ass sometimes, especially episodes 5 and 7. S2 is just such an obvious improvement.

I loved the Opening design and animation to bits. Totsuka was really funny this episode and during the end preview for the next episode! Anyway, I am looking forward for the next episodes. This one hooked me on to this series!

A nice start. The character designs look different because of different studio. But I think I preferred the previous designs. The new designs look good, but it feels like it is more generic looking. Yui and Yukinoshita now look very identical except for the hair.

Pretty much everyone but Hachiman look better with the new art style, it's like he's lost his unique look... or maybe that's the point? Not standing out? Maybe I'm giving this too much thought. I definitely like the new OP better, the song is good, but the visuals are perfect. On the other side, the ED is pretty mediocre music-wise, but at least the visuals sequence is better than last season's.

Surprisingly, the anime studio change didn't bother me and they didn't try to imite the essence of the first season either. It looks more realistic now. May work better in drama scenes. About the episode, Im glad that Yukino and Yui defended Hachiman, kinda cute.

ed: I just read that the anime skipped some LN content, that explains why I felt a bit rushed the second half.

What a great way to start a new season, Yui looks like going on a date with Hachiman and at the very end It's Yukino screentime and tbh I like the animation since they changed studio.

Not sure how I like the new art style. Definitely noticeable, dreamy like filter. Hair changes to Hikkigaya, Yuigihama, and Yukino. Very subtle, but still noticeable changes like the ahoge in Hikkigaya forming a backward curl rather than sticking straight up. Yukino's usual strand of hair that falls to her right above her head of hair gone. Hikkigaya's fish eye's less squared off, more rounded and slightly bigger. Blending of hair color rather than a solid color like Yui's orange hair not as bright. Shot's not as close up as before, eye's one of the more noticeable differences than anything throughout. Only big problem is I don't like the white, sunny, dream-like filter on it, but I suppose it helps with the lighting and helps it look more realistic. I wonder what this means for the more cartoony aspects of the anime, like sudden movements, sweat drops when nervous, and the emphasis on certain expressions.

edit// ok after watching the whole episode, I think I like it. It really does justice to Yukino's beauty, plus it seems like characters are more expressive. Not as cartoony, fine by me. Enjoyed Yukino and Hikkigaya's dynamic more in this episode.

Don’t mind me, just restarting this series after dropping it halfway through season 2 last year. Been seeing season 3 stuff everywhere so I kind of just want to see it for myself. Just need to say how much of an upgrade season 2 is from season 1 in terms of writing. I don’t remember it being this funny, especially of course hachimans commentary.

Coming into this again with a fresh slate, last year I had the looming idea of season 2 being as boring as the first, and it kind of affected my view. Viewing this again though, dang I really like this shit. I’m expecting big things, and I’m almost certain now I won’t be disappointed

7 years later after finishing S1 I can finally watch S2... since I have finally started and read deep enough in the LN (currently at the end of vol.9) that I can afford to start this.

And my memories from vol7 are still fresh, so there will be some critics.
A LOT of Oregairu text is the MC thinking about stuff and analyzing, being cynical and even some jokes, thus really, A LOT was skipped and the pacing they are going for, it was not a surprised vol7 is adapted in 2 episodes, which is insane, considering the LN volumes arent short.
´
The biggest problem any fan of the source material will have should end there, and sure it is a problem because you would want for each arc to be longer in the anime, slower pace, including more bickering and dialogue between the MCs... BUT!
Really, what is adapted here is close to flawless, the execution just seems way better to me, and I do like this art more, it is more detailed.

It is almost a sin, to skip on so much content per volume, but when what is adapted comes out to sell, one is still bound to enjoy it a lot.

Definitely had lots of fun with this episode, the studios understood the source material and brought each character to life really well, I cant wait to see how they handle the confession and the consequences that will spawn from that!

I Got a question for y'all that's been bugging me
When hikigaya met yukinon at the lobby of motel/hotel. What did yukinon mean when she told him "it's all because of what you did at the cultural festival" ?

prime example that a change in animation studio almost never works for the better.

higher budget but lower quality, ironic. sure it looks more "vivid" but its not SNAFU anymore. the feel of the show is different, and thats a huge problem

Nice start, glad they animated the important parts of s1's ending so it doesn't feel confusing, but there were still things I wish were shown, like what happened to that night after party. I kind of wanted to see more that happened right after season 1 ended.

The studio change surely is visible but I don't dislike it, hopefully it gets better with each episode. The opening is still amazing. Miss the old ending though.

If I'm not mistaken, I think Hachiman's eyes have light in them as well. I don't recall this in the previous series. Or am I wrong?

It's been about 2 and a half years since I last watched this, and there's only been 7 replies in this thread since my last post here? I guess people don't really care about commenting in this episode discussion threads as much as compared to when they're currently airing. Makes sense I guess.

But anyway, that's besides the point. Right off the bat, different art style yes, different studio, but WOW the actual ANIMATION has received an upgrade as well, they be just flexing just a little with the concert scene. There's definitely more fluid motion there than there was originally. I like how they show sensei having gotten pulled over by the police in the op. And yes, our characters most certainly look more lively and less cartoonish, especially Hachiman. I think Yui looks more beautiful with the newer more detailed character models, but Yukino on the other hand unfortunately for me has seemed to have lost her beautiful ice queen vibe. Not bad, just, more soft, and less ice queen. I mean that makes sense since she slowly but surely is becoming more warm of a character, but still. I don't feel like this Yukino could roast Hachiman as hard as season 1 Yukino could. Like I can't imagine this Yukino calling Hachiman less than an air conditioner. All the characters look softer, and more human. It makes it so it doesn't look like they could roast tf out of each other anymore, but it will help the drama scenes a whole lot more, since everyone seems to have more life in their eyes and all that. But still, I will miss ice queen Yukino. It does take an episode or so to get used to, but I do think it does help the series overall. But if I had a choice, it'd be close... but I THINK I'd have actually preferred to keep the old art style..?? Really just to keep Yukino's original design. And honestly Hachiman, as shifty as he looked, seemed to work better as a character with the old design as well. Maybe I'm just too used to it after seeing season 1 again. I'll let season 2 play out, maybe I'll change my mind. Actually yeah, I'll probably take back everything I said about preferring brain base's art style after this episode or the next.

Speaking of the concert scene though, I like what they did in re-animating quick shots the important scenes of the final episode of season 1 (technically it's episode 12, but I don't count that episode 13 ova-like filler as the final episode), to smoothen the transition of the art-styles. The change then doesn't become as jarring, and I for one am thinking "hey, this looks a bit different, but it does look better" as opposed to "EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED!!" Plus it's nice to relive what was arguably the most impactful moment of season 1.

We're starting off light, but if I remember correctly, it starts getting real heavy again real soon.

Also WHY TF DOES SAIKA ALWAYS MUTTER HACHIMAN'S NAME IN HIS SLEEP WTF

And uh, BATh sCENE WITH HACHIMAN AND TOTSUKA, WHERE??

The new art style is gorgeous asf, especially yukinoshita and hachiman's hair, I absolutely loathe his old shitty green hair. So far it's good 5/5

Hmm not a huge fan of the art style change. The animation looks better, but the new character designs feel lacking in terms of personality.

Oh well. I'll get used to it.

It's funny watching Hachiman squirming over his proximity to Totsuka and an indirect kiss with Yui, despite how cynical he is. Also, is Yukinoshita starting to catch feelings for Hachiman?
