I absolutely loved this! Definitely one of my favorite movies!

This was pure genius! So much fun, so sad as well and so well put together. Satoshi Kon really was a talented man. I loved how it presented some of the tougher sides of life which you don't get to see in anime that often.

After watching the masterpiece that is Millennium Actress, I found this movie to be just slightly above average, nothing more.

The characters were decent even though they were annoying at times, the music was also decent. The animation was great.

The story was quite original at first but too much coincidence, which dictated how the story flowed, happened. It almost felt like a Dora the Explorer episode at some point. And mainly because of that it didn't really feel believable, even though this movie is more like a fairy tale for adults. But still, I think they should've have handled the execution a bit differently.

The comedy was alright, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.

It's Satoshi Kon's weakest work for me, for now. Still enjoyed it though. 7/10

Yeah, I pretty much agree with what everyone else is saying. Great movie, loved the characters, etc. Just wish we got like 5 extra minutes at the end to wrap it up a bit more.

I'd give it a 8.5, very good. would recommend

Good movie. Some moments were kinda boring, but the last part was pretty exciting and touching. It failed to make me laugh, though; I guess its humor isn't my cup of tea. But at the end of the day, I liked it. Still, I liked Perfect Blue a bit better.

I respect your opinion as long as you respect mine.

You really dont see many movies with this setting, and it was done well for sure, interesting and well paced. Also that baby can only be described as a lucky charm!
If the movie was a bit longer, with more scenes, and not ending only there, it would make it a bit better.
8/10

Off topic, seems the director died in 2010, shame indeed, since the movie was really good, his last words were strong and deep, something to teach us, to enjoy our life to the most possible, whatever its conditions, we only have 1, and we may lose it tomorrow.
This was my first movie from this guy, kinda strange... but surely I will watch each of the others he made, and apreciate how he contributed to the medium, R.I.P.

This movie was so beautiful. I wanted to give it a 10 at first but it kept dropping. Well, not dramatically since I stiill gave it an 8. I thought the plot twists were way too coincidental and things always fell into place which made it too utopic. Still like it and do recommend it.

The one thing that stops this movie from being solid perfection; it just ended with Miyuki and her father reacting? The other main characters had some closure at least.

This was awesome for something that came out in 2003!! I'm glad that the ending was happy, that child was really godsend. I can see myself watching this during Christmas times (like now) 9/10.

Christmas Eve, you know what that means! Time to rewatch Tokyo Godfathers. Even rewatching this it was just as amazing as it was the first time I watched it. I just love this movie so much, everything about it is just perfect and I can't help but smile like an idiot the whole time I'm watching it. I'm looking forward to watching it again next year.

Saw on xmas since I heard it's the show for this time.
Good stuff, hilarious throughout, throwing twists & coincidences every way. Unreliable narrators (Gin & Sachiko) really threw me off, & pieces came together later on, quite unusual to see in anime.
Video was kinda too dark & grainy, but otherwise quited detail art & great animation.

Rewatching this film, Tokyo Godfathers is still the movie that can make me believe in miracles, if just by how ridiculous and self-aware it is with its own absurdities. It makes you feel "yes, this is insanity and the coincidences are mind boggling, but because this is Christmas, these things are allowed to happen because it's just that time of the year." No matter how jaded and busy I've become over the years, I'm glad that this film exists to pull me back to that state of mind where I can just enjoy the season.

Wow this movie was great. Not what I expected at all but great. I think it's definitely Saotshi Kon's most accessible work that I've seen. It's plot was all pretty clearly defined on the surface. It was a more character than idea driven work. And it had a lot of really effective moments of emotional catharsis. I'm kind of a mess when I watch movies like this, but I cried multiple times. Plus it kind of just has a classic banter driven comedic anime energy you don't see in Perfect Blue or Paprika. All three of our heroes are deeply flawed fuck ups. But their hearts in the right place and they're so broken you just have to feel for them.

I was surprised at how much I liked Hana. I didn't realize they were a main character at first and thought they were just going to be a horribly offensive stereotype. But while I won't say he's a particularly modern or enlightened look at the queer community. Especially for when this came out, he has a lot of sympathy and likable qualities. And I was surprised at how the movie kind of pushed him and Gin as a couple. While I liked Gin and Miyuki quite a bit I think its fair to say Hana was the most compelling of the three and kind of my favorite.

As always with Satoshi Kon we got some cool high energy little action sequences too. And some scenes very heavy on visual symbolism. All punctuated by Madhouse is great fluid animation, fun unique character designs and a really trippy score. Especially that batshit insane version of Ode to Joy at the end. That's going on my Christmas Mix this year.

Tokyo Godfathers is an excellent film with great comedy and drama. Satoshi Kons untimely death was truly a loss for the world of anime and film.

I'm so glad I finally got around to watching this, on christmas eve too. I want to give it a 9/10, because it made its characters so human and well-developed. It was mostly heartwarming, with some touches of that Satoshi Kon weirdness. Excellent animation and setting. The plot maybe had some issues staying consistent and fully focused, but the experience as a whole was a great one. Love the characters. I think I slightly prefer it to Perfect Blue, and want to see Milenium Actress and Paprika too now. Definitely recommendable.

This became one of my favorite movies ever because of the sheer hilarity of the whole film. For me, this is Satoshi Kon’s best film. The amount of ironic coincidences in this movie was pretty much equivalent to the amount of times I laughed my ass off because of this.

The ending was touching but Iwant moreeee. Truly a Christmas miracle to get to watch it this holiday season.

Very entertaining with a lot of good laughs. I feel like this would have been nice in show format due to it needing more time to go deeper into each character but overall great film with some good comedy. I gave it a 7/10 but I was really debating whether or not it should be a 8/10.

This was such an enjoyable and well directed movie. The comedy worked for me, espescially the over the top chasing scenes. I liked the cast too and could get invested into their backround stories as well as the drama.

My only complaint is that the movie ended so abrupt.

Still great stuff 8,5/10

Beautiful Christmas comedy. Kon talks about love and family, but in any case he inserts reflective parts and, as in his other works, he strongly criticizes Japanese society. A moving story that highlights the life of the homeless.

A film that should make you cry at every juncture, the conditional is a must, but it is thanks to so much irony that the film manages to pass over so many dramatic and serious arguments, without the viewer leaving more tears on the ground than necessary; a truly exceptional gift for this film. The facial expression is exceptional and makes even more convincing what the characters say or do, then they themselves are already characterized by them from the first minute without even going into their lives to know their cultural background. Nice and enjoyable movie at any age, perhaps less romantic than others by master Satoshi Kon, but easier to understand in a psychological key.

For now, my vote is 8/10.

Tokyo Godfathers is the greatest entry in Satoshi Kon's filmography.
