Pretty much, yes.
Judging by his facial expression at the end, the fact that the 2 are twins and the fact that one has short hair (Lucy) while the other is long (Nyuu, correct me if I'm wrong I got bad eye sight)

I liked the ending, as some have said, it was a bit cheesy. Although it was sort of what I was hoping for, or at least I was hoping for a happy ending rather than a sad one.

So in conclusion
- Nana ended up being her papa's wife?
- Lucy was killed by Kouta.
- Nyuu & Lucy are reincarnated in new bodies.
- Kouta marries Yuka.
- Bandou goes cyborg.
That's about it.

i was thinking of reading the manga. but after reading this stupid stuff im sticking with the anime (wich i love and seen 3 times).
Kouta x Lucy, thats how it should be. bando cyborg, thats just lame and nyuu and lucy reincarnated is even more cheesy. nana as her papas wife? thats total bull too

Its weird how great this manga was (in a weird way). It was a great Mind, Fuck psychological thiller. Im glad how every character got a conclusion except for the Captain. Even though he only appeared in about two chapters.

The plot was stounding and the events shocking. By the end of the manga I was ok with a little girl sticking a knife on her heart or raping one.

The spy guy and Anna seem like interesting duo since he is all tactical and Anna is kind of ignorant.

Nana is the same funny weirdo. Gotta love that character.

Yuka by the end seemed more like a filler character. I suppose her conclusion came when Kouta went to bring her from the beach. I was glad to see Bandou as a cyborg. Its interesting how more of a human he became each time he got some thing got flown away from him. Now he doesnt even has a penus. Lol way to go "I will never cut my balls off neither give birth to a diclonius!" At least he has a free daughter. I always thought that Kouta and Yuka were in law cousins. It amkes sense since Kouta`s father said that he didnt like to trouble Yuka`s mom. It wouldnt be that way if they would be real brothers. Lucy is some sourt of god I suppose. She isnt a even a race like the horned guy thought.

LIke it was stated in the manga a monkey can never even imagine what a man has on his mind. They are wolrds apart, and juts like that lucy was something worlds apart from humans. The twins were probably their personalities living somehow...
Great manga anyways.

I FINALLY finished it.

I had this manga on hold for such a looooong time, OVER A YEAR.

As for the ending I thought it was pretty good, I don't understand why people are opposed to a happy ending after all the misery of the first 106 chapters.

Kohta and Yuka getting married was nice but also predictable, oh and BTW, people need to stop with this cousin nonsense, in Japan things are a lot different than America and the rest of the western world, I don't find it disgusting or wrong that he would marry his cousin.

Bandou coming back was plain and simply BULLSHIT!!!

and finally the twins who people say are the reincarnations of Lucy and Nyu, this is something else that nor do I care and I don't find it that relevant or important, Mariko had 4 clones, so now Lucy and Nyu come back as reincarnations or clones....WHO CARES, Kohta is already old and he's married to Yuka and they have a daughter, IT DOESN'T CHANGE ANYTHING.

OVERALL:

I found the manga to be slightly better than the anime, honestly when I saw the anime I instantly thought it was great and one of the most unique anime out there. I finally decided to read the manga so I could see how it ended.

I enjoyed the manga thoroughly, I thought it was one of the most DISTURBING but at the same time great mangas I have ever read.

8.5/10...........since MAL is stupid and they don't allow .5s, I'll round it up to a 9.

lol badou survived?? I thought he should be dead coz lucy cut his body in half which cut his spinal cord... and also, Lucy and Nyuu reincarnated??

I don't know bout you guys but the ending was a bit forced to "happy/good" ending imo :P I mean it seems to me that the writer wants to finish the series quickly and hence creating this forced ending to satsfy the readers -_-;;

Nevertheless, the manga was good and pretty satsify the way plot finished and leading to happy ending ^^

The ending was similar to that of the Anime, with hopes instilled, and leaving the question of "What the heck just happened"
But it was depressing, as all logic would define, it just can't be a good ending... The story, mostly revolving around Kaede's misery, ended with her never getting what she wanted... Her doubts being proven. This ending made the end of the Anime look like the cheeriest thing ever. In fact, thanks to this, I now HAVE to re watch the Anime just to clear my mind.

You know, actually... Thinking about the ending of the Manga... I expect those two girls were hallucinations, which changes my perception of the Anime. Perhaps... the ending of that was just, an illusion of the mind? Although someone obviously had arrived, could the shadow, the clock, and the music box be illusions?

This was such a depressing manga that I actually had to stop after certain times and do something else.
The ending was a bit to happy ever after, but after 106 chapters of depressing stuff, I honestly didn't mind it. I was actually glad that Bandou is still alive. He was a jerk at first but he grew on me and he doesn't seem like the type to die so easily.
As for the reincarnation of Lucy and Nyu, I hadn't thought about that at first, but now it kind of made sense.
This was a pretty good manga, but I doubt I would ever read it again.

I'm not saying that I disliked the ending (and overall, I loved anime and manga), but for the last 20-30 chapters epicness was building, building and it came to a point where it is just TOO epic. It became similar to Dragon Ball Z, where a character is killed 10 times, but then comes back to life, reaches Super Saiyan level X and kicks everyone's ass.

the anime was much better that this

after a certain point, people were "dying" and "resurrecting" so often i could care less about side characters.

the anime was much more compact, more "emotional" and had a great great ending. the manga felt like it dragged on because the writer wanted to get more money on a weekly basis, LAME!

I thought the Bandou/ Kurama were just mayu/nana's memories of them... they both were like fathers to them I guess... And at that it wouldn't be too large of a leap to think the twins were a figment of his Imagination, he came to that sight after all to see Kadae/Nyuu

...And I bawwwled when Kohta read Lucy/Nyuu/Kadae's letter.

Much better than the anime, which I loved, the series wasn't perfect but it's a 10/10 for me.

I loved and hated the ending. I'm really happy Bando survived cause he's pretty B.A. and it's nice to see that a character doesn't have to die to save someone else. I'm not sure why everyone keeps saying that he's a figment of Mayu's imagination, I don't know how he survived but it shows that he's half robot now so. I also don't know why everyone believes Kurama is imaginary he's carrying ashes to a grave and talking about cleaning up the aftermath, sounds alive to me lol. I don't like that Kouta married Yuka because while I know things are different in Japan the fact that they're cousins bugs me, but other than that it makes me mad because she really isn't given much of a personality, this is partly because she's given so few parts in the story, and partly because the manga is pretty short which causes a couple of problems, one of them being that some characters didn't develop enough (although Bando has fewer parts to play than her and he still has an interesting personality). My final complaint is that the ending did seem kinda forced and I would have rathered Nyu/Kaede survive thn be reincarnated. Speaking of which how did she come back? Some things point to Buddhism like the fact that she didn't originally expect to come back while other things point to the possibility of her psychic powers somehow bringing her back like the fact that the twins were waiting for Kouta and I don't believe people remember being reincarnated, or things from their past life clearly if at all.`Sigh all in all I wish Nyu/Kaede could've been with Kouta instead of reincarnated. Sorry for the wall of text I just finished the manga and felt like I had to wright or talk about the ending somewhere, cause I don't usually cry, and this series almost brought me to tears, but instead of crying I held it in so I didn't look like a sissy to every one, and I think it's making my stomach hurt lol.

Man... Those last chapters were so sad. I'm glad that Nana, Mayu and Yuka/Kouta will finally live happily (I’m more happy for Nana thought). The happy ending felt a bit too forced. The spy shouldn't have live (there was a panel will a huge splatter of blood and her screaming), Bando gets chopped in two (no problem I’m a terminator) and Anna (not sure how she could have live inside that monster). Those three characters should have stayed dead in my opinion. Chief Kurama could also have been a candidate (so many bad decision, but hey he got the manga going), but if he did die all those death would have been in vain. The story was great and the end feels satisfying especially when Kouta find the bottle, such a sad/happy moment. 10/10!

mehh, that was too sugarsweet for me, it would have been fine if they had such a ending, but only if they had it done differently.
they could have let lucy live somehow, but they souldent reincarnate her.
also, they should have let that dude who was sure to be dead stay dead, if they did not want him dead then they shouldent "kill" him in a manner that makes us sure that he is dead. and at last, that daughter suddently becomming human again..... that chick who helped the scientist and afterward's got "killed" oh w8 ofc not.....
besides from all that i really liked the manga, but kinda lame ending.

Tearful ending with an older Kouta.

After coming from the anime, I didn't expect Lucy to end up like that on the lighthouse, christ that must have been awful for everyone to see. I'm not sure how Bando and the spy guy survived but whatever, I'm glad Anna is back to her human form and that Nana is happy with Papa.

Not a big fan of Kouta x Yuka anyway but its lovely that he did eventually get closure at the meeting spot in the form of those twins. What a moment there.

Hugely different from its anime counterpart but I'm very glad I read this.

from the start i nvr felt that Yuka should ended up with Kouta because that was just not right i feel.Lucy have been through a lot of pain, betrayal and even bare her feeling toward Kouta for eight years, she even set her life protecting Kouta.

Bantou and the others alive is really fine to but the reincarnation of Lucy and Nyuu doesn't seen to be good ending for me either because i am hoping that Kouta will be with Lucy in the end and Lucy get to express her feeling toward Kouta.

this is the most depressing and sad manga that i've ever read....think about it will make me sad...almost shed tear when first finish the manga with some emotional music...

That scientist chick --- yes it's a woman, don't know why everyone thinks it's a guy except for maybe because the one person said he one time in reference to her which was probably one of the many typo's in the manga--- I don't think she actually died, it was probably just drawn that way to make it look like she had been killed --- as they've done many times before throughout the manga --- so you would think that she died and be "surprised" when she's alive, as for Bandou, I have no idea how the hell he was still alive, he should've been dead, I mean, Lucy cut his body in half, cutting off his organs from the body systems, anyway, this ending was unsatisfyingly satisfying, it was a great way to end it, but I wish Kaede/Lucy could've been with Kouta instead of Yuka, would've been much better more pages showing the reincarnated Kaede & Nyu more clearly and what Kouta did after he turned around and saw them probably giving them a huge hug, aye, so nice and happy, yet so sad, makes me so sad, wish I was Kouta, always liked Kaede/Lucy, wish she was real but without having killed so many people or the whole Nyu personality, don't like Nyu in the beginning at all and Lucy is so much more "emotional" especially in the anime ending, felt so bad for her, it was so heart warming how Lucy kissed Kouta in the anime ending, but her face & pose when Kouta hugged her was kinda weird, I watched the anime first and read the manga afterward to see what happened afterward, must say the manga ending was sad in a "sorry-for-you" kind of way how Lucy died and then was sad in a happy way with the twins, where as the anime ended in sad heart-warming way, makes me wanna cry when I think about it, all in all, both the manga and the anime were great, 10/10 for both

I would theorize after learning that the Diclonius revoultion (Does not relate to the myth Kakuzawa and his bloodline believed in because they were just humans with a bone mutation) started in modern times in Elfen Lied after Lucy's mom gave birth to a mutated baby, it could be that Lucy's vectors infecting others somehow gives them traits identical to hers with her world domination side ,which was a result of childhood trauma, being the dominant trait passed down. This could explain why all Diclonii or most had the side of them which was akin to Lucy's own "dark side" and the fact that the twins at the end seemed to know Kouta and in a sense was her reincarnation. Also the fact that Mariko's clones or at least 2(maybe just one but mos def at that one which I believe was Cynthia) was able to recall the fact that Kurama was their father can also be used to support my opinion but it could be like Mariko the original who was able to sense he was her father in the manga without being told it was and sense the person monitoring her for most of her life was not her mother.

I'm alright with spy woman's survival, as her death wasn't shown and I like how she herself said that she doesn't know how really she's survived. Also I was wondering what Kakuzawa meant when he said he is not a cruel father, so I'm relieved it was explained when Anna regained her body. But actually I don't much care about these characters. Regarding Bantou and Kurama, I think they are both dead and they come back as imaginations of the girls, just for a farewell party. I love how it was shown from Wanta's perception, the dog is so cute.
That melting thing was very disturbing... However I like the way it ended. It looks like the horned body with the evil presence has died and now the girls finally have chance to lead a normal happy life in separate bodies. I'm sure they will be part of Kouta's harem and his daughter Nyu will be one of his wifes as well. It's Elfen Lied after all. Great series.

Wow! I've managed to finish reading this entire manga in a short period of time!

Yes i get it, this last chapter was too sweet and was very confusing. How did the spy with the glasses survive!? Kohta and Yuka had kids.... incest much. The note buried in the ground was heartbreaking and so was the reincarnated personalities of Lucy and Nyu.

Great story, sad that the anime didn't cover this but overall i enjoyed it.

Hopefully this might clear up any confusion.

At the end you see kouta with his daughter nyuu. While visiting the stone he finds the letter from Lucy. In it contains her real name. So now he is able to know her true name and have a piece of their childhood back.
While there his daughter hears someone coming. She calls out to one of the twin friends. And calls her kaede. Which is Lucy/nyuu's real name. Either kouta or his daughter then asks what's wrong? I don't remember exactly what the speech bubble said. Then is the bubble where he realizes something. The twins say they have come to meet a friend. The very last 2 speech bubbles are from the twins. That's when kouta realizes its nyuu and Lucy reborn. Because he had said he wanted them both to come back home before they died to protect him. As for the theory that kaede is a third personality it's not so. Lucy mentioned that the one he called nyuu would have been her true self if she didnt have horns. So the true girl is kaede. She is called nyuu by kouta because he doesn't know her real name. Lucy is the same girl but choosing to obey the instinct. The name given to her by the institution.

As for the ending when nana says it is neither nyuu or Lucy. It's possible it is the instinct itself making an appearance. Because it wills not to die and to destroy.

As for if the twins are diclonious. They may very well be. The ribbons seem to be hiding something. But it could also be the mangakas clue to the readers that they are Lucy and nyuu reborn.

As for bandou. Lucy beat him up pretty bad before. But he was able to get new eyes and a new hand. The second time they fought, he was left there because the police came. It could be he was taken to the hospital and given more artificial parts. Cause hey, he got some before too.

The poster could be the future Lucy's friend could have had. Or it could be that the girls mother had a new daughter who got into drawing too.
More likely it is kazukomi or however you spell her name. The one who would pee herself. It looks most like a poster promoting an opera of some sort.

As for nana and her papa. She mentions she could be his wife. Ironic because she was supposed to be sterile. Perhaps she's only stating something that's a wife's duty since he was aggrieved about Mariko. As for whether he calls her his daughter or his wife, I think the mangaka left that open for what the individual readers would've preferred their relationship to be.

Hope that clears up any confusions? These are all just my theories on what the symbolisms mean.

Forgot to add the glasses man and Anna.

Perhaps Anna was like a operator inside a mutant body. So once Lucy destroyed it, she was able to get free. But lost access to the big brain filled with knowledge.

As for how the man with glasses and Anna could have survived, it could be the sudden submerging of the island had trapped and air bubble inside. How they will survive after I'm not sure. The story did say that the horned people hid underground in that spot for a thousand years... Not sure

As for the incest factor to kouta and Yuka, I thought in the beginning it was mentioned their families were friends? If I'm incorrect there and they truly are cousins, its possible for cousins to marry and bear completely normal children. The percentage of complications for a child born from cousins are only about 1-2% higher than unrelated couples. Brother and sister would be much higher though. As you remember. The evil horned director wanted his son, Lucy's brother to mate with her. Which would increase the probability of a "pure blood" diclonious. Much like how royals back in the day used to inbreed.

Hope this also helps further.

Finally got around to reading this after watching the anime months ago. I have to say i loved the entire thing, the ending was kinda soul crushing though. I felt sooo bad for Lucy/Nyuu, no matter how hard they tried to live a happy normal life people kept interfering.

The fact that Bando was still alive was ridiculous but i couldnt help but smile and fist pump when he appeared.

I was indifferent about Anna and the Spy, coulda done without it, but whatever.

The twins obviously being Nyuu and Lucy felt kind of like a cop out happy ending. Without it, the ending would have been way too sad, but i really wanted to see the Kouta x Lucy romance to work out, the fact that he ended up having to kill Lucy has me depressed, but im happy she got to basically tell him she loved him with that note.

My only problem with the entire story was Yuka, i couldnt stand her, there were a few moments where i thought she was going to snap and go Yandere mode, but she just kept being the same boring pointlessly obsessed character. The fact that she ended up marrying Kouta made me angry.

Anyways, great story none the less even if it didnt end like i wanted it too, they never do. :(

I've finally been able to read the manga after watching the anime classic after it was completed. The manga was way better as it really goes in deph. And thanks to the guy up there for explaining the last part on the mountain. The naming of the girls confused me.

Personally though, the only things that bother me are Banto's ressuection and KoutaxYuka( though it was leaning that way sinc nyuu was gone) Amazing sad story. The gore didn't faze me the least nor Lucy's melting since it is part of the story and adds to the sadness during her death.

I'm really glad I read the manga to finish off the story from where the anime left off with. Even if the ending was weird, it ended memorably.

As I reread the ending again, the letter and her reincarnation seems to fit perfectly.

Damn that was amazing, I really loved this ending way more than the tv series! Just loved how it took up everything we wished for to happen with lucy and everyone else!

Really good that I've read the manga now as I thought first it would mostly be the same as the anime but boy I was wrong!

Just an amazing Manga! 9/10

I enjoyed this manga, but a lot of chapters and some of the tragedies didn't really have an impact on me like some of it before. I mean the actual ideas of who was killed, why, and where were tragic, but the way the deaths were written felt eh. Though these last few chapters did make me feel sad.

It was a good read, i enjoyed it, but how did Bando survive pretty much getting ripped in half?
