That episode title was classic subversion! Wow. "Deadly Combat Under the Sea!", made me think it would be with Caribou but instead that didn't happen at all. Something quite incredible happened. A great 500 episode gag came in the form of Momoo running for his life and leaving behind the cowardly Caribou. Now, with Caribou's ship destroyed and allies floating to the top of the sea we have a no good, cowardly, self interested, psychopath who's coincidentally on the Straw Hats side but also wants to kill them if he gets a chance. That should be interesting. I found Caribou so hysterical in this episode, not because of him but because of how the Straw Hats dealt with him, he's a great example of a vaguely normal person to illuminate the eccentricity of our cast. Franky slowly and casually walking over to him and picking him up then walking to the side of the ship with him had me laughing so hard. And Zoro's complete lack of sympathy for Caribou's men, remarking they look like jellyfish was great. One small thing is that we know Caribou is logia, yet when Sanji hit him he hurt him, made him bleed, and knocked some teeth out of him. The rope was by no means sea prism was it? So, it should be either most likely an inconsistency, or a hint that Sanji can use haki... I'm betting on the former.
The Kraken was great! For showing off the wonderful personalities of our cast and for showing off their new powers. Luffy as he always does when he sees big monsters on top of the fact that he was just given the idea of taming a sea monster is excited to tame the Kraken. Zoro being the ultimate bro will come along and help, but both will definitely almost pop the bubble. Luffy's "the problem is we're under water" was great. Usopp, and Chopper are incredibly frightened and I'm glad Nami showed she's still scared when you get down to it! Robin drew an adorable picture of the Kraken to document what it looks like and Franky complimented her. And Brook relaxed with some tea. So good. We may have gotten used to their personalities by now but they never get old. Further, Franky has a real shoulder missile now, definitely better than the Franky missile he showed off in Water 7! Robin can form giant limbs out of many of her small limbs, almost like a third gear bone balloon. Chopper's guard point for some reason expands to an absurd degree now. And, as Sanji and Zoro come out to help protect the crew and get this Kraken, Luffy get's ready to show off a new variation to third gear! That should be cool.. I assume the other Straw Hats will have to try and save the fighting trio as they get sucked away by currents.
Sanji is getting over his Nami weakness due to some rehabilitation and also due to Nami putting on clothes for the first time since they reunited. Chopper stole Brook's skull joke and it made him very depressed, Chopper did it so innocently too, like he was just stating a fact. <3 And I really can't get over Franky's little hand, him holding the binoculars with it was amazing.
I also noticed two small but really cool things. Firstly, the opening has Roger turn into a young shanks, then a young shanks grow old and give his hat to Luffy, then a young Luffy turn to the Luffy we know now. I assumed it was Luffy who was first shown in the opening but knowing it's Roger shows a lot of beauty in how each passed the hat onto their proteges. The other is not relevant at all but Franky mentioning the Sunny is made of the Adam tree made me realize just how poetic the Sunny's creation was. The money the Straw Hats made that was stolen from them went right back to them in the form of the greatest ship ever!
P.S. THIS JOURNEY TO FISHMAN ISLAND STAYS BEAUTIFUL! The underwater waterfall current was a pleasant surprise to everyone. :) |
