@salamander750 Yeah, Moon is such a empty-headed bimbo...

Also, how the hell is NOBODY mentioning the musical direction? The OST is perfectly enhancing the script and action, and that incorporation of Paragon during the boss fight was perfect. The transition into Inertia at the very end also put a whole new layer of meaning into the song; not everything is champagne wishes and caviar dreams in Heroland.

Didn't think about it that way.
I actually love sawano, we go way back (aot beginnings) and love to see he keeps cooking bangers every year. Probably one of my favorites artists ever period, i have like around 50 songs of him in my spotify, he's just that good
I was extremely hyped for Paragon since i heard it in one of the main trailers of tbhx and was insane even in the background. I still believe it would make a much better opening than inertia (i believe it's a great op visually but not hiroyuki's best song), I'm satisfied tho since he finally dropped today, it's not his best song but it's almost there.
When it started going on in the ep while fighting his manager, yeah that was incredibly peak for me, sawano always makes perfect things go beyond perfect

Good Lord, what an epic first episode.
The storytelling was top notch
The animation, OST, OP, and everything was amazing. The cliffhanger showing Moon's death was shocking.
Really has the potential to be the best new anime of the season by a landslide.
Looking forward to more episodes (dub ofc).

It is easily one of the most promising anime 2025 has seen yet. The storytelling, soundtrack, background music, and even the art style that fluctuates between 3D animation and Japanese 2D anime are amazing.

This feels quite similar to MHA in terms of its synopsis and initial setup, and I hope it will keep me hooked as MHA did (at least for the first 4 seasons). The only con I noticed was the sometimes unneeded background sounds during comedy scenes that feel awkward.

P.S. - The opening shown in the end was an absolute banger!!
@STORMGAZER honestly I'd even say that some of the 2D animation is western comic book inspired - the dot textures over top of a lot of it is very comic book super hero feeling to me, which is such a cool touch.

I've been looking forward to this because the Seiyuu cast are so stacked and mostly my favorites

Stayed for that spectacular Animation + OST
I thought the animation was weird at first but then it reminded me of Arcane and the thing where it transitions to 2D was really interesting.
Not even a fan of the hero stuff genre but this was AMAZING.

THAT CLIFFHANGER ENDING WAS DIABOLICAL

The premise is really interesting, and I loved the whole thing. The animation was flawless—especially the way they switched between art styles.

An ordinary guy becoming the hero Nice after Nice kills himself? That twist was wild. The fight scenes were awesome, and the dude’s actually pretty good at impersonating Nice. It’s sad that Nice’s girlfriend is dead, though—I’m really curious to find out who killed her.

Just finished. Will say, the animation is top notch and definitely the thing that stands out the most. The creative freedom given to these animators really brought every moment to the next level. But the pacing was incredibly fast and it feels like you're thrown into everything at once. I don't know how to feel about that but I still felt good about that episode and hope it gets better overtime. Will say, the plot twists startled me

exatly! I think It was top fast! Maybe is the chinese pase.

Visually stunning and well executed.

Time will tell if they can craft and world and story.
To fit what they rocked out of the gate.

If the pace is kept up. By the end of this two cour run.
We could easily have a 9 or 10 overall.

@SoZLuka honestly I just watched it with the Chinese dub - it's available as one of the options on crunchyroll, so I figured I may as well since I don't speak either language, so I should pick the native one that'll match the lip flaps.
@Eragonnogare The Chinese dub is good, but the English one is fine as well so I think I'll go with that so I can focus more on the visuals as there is a lot to take in.

What does everyone think of this first episode? I think that it was absolutely outstanding, an amazing start to this show. I really hope that everyone watches this and it really hits the big time, this crazy unique animation mixing deserves massive props. Love the premise too.
@Eragonnogare They absolutely displayed no lack for talent. Right out of the gate.

The directing is especially noteworthy. Using animation to its fullest alongside novel cinematography. This is much closer to a film's scope than most broadcast.

They could go really far with this. Not many studios can pull off a feature film schedule within this industry's constraints.

@pixelante I often do the same, but I was so excited for this show that I was so on time/early to the episode that the English dub wasn't even available yet if I wanted to lol 😂

Wow, that was a really good first episode! I love the whole 2D-3D mix of animation, definitely unique. The pacing was a bit too fast, but it wasn’t anything too bad. That cliffhanger at the end tho. The 3D art style reminds me a bit of Arcane.

Holy shit, wtf did I just watch!? That was amazing! I don't know anything about the series and went in completely blind. I was doing the whole, mouth open astonishment, for the 2D segments. The 3D was good too. The style reminded me of Marvel Rivals, tbh.

I definitely didn't see any of these deaths coming. RiP Moon. It seemed the original Nice did not treat her like this at all. She could see the look in the new Nice's eyes when she took his hand. He was gazing upon his personal goddess in close range, mesmerized by her beauty. I kind of was imagining them building an actual relationship as the show moved forward. I guess that won't be happening now, lol.

I'm still kind of in shock about how much I enjoyed that. Best first episode of the season so far and I've watched basically everything that has came out to this point. Good stuff!

HOLD UP this is sequel/related to To Be Heroine? Damn what a blast from the past

China really has the money now to pump out good looking anime (can't say much to their 3D dongwhas since they looks ass to me), but thats mostly for first seasons (ie, The King's Avatar looks way worse than the first season was which is still the one of the best animated ones ever to come out)
Goukenslay said:

While it could take place in the same universe, those 2 are not connected with to be Hero X
Sure there might be a chance that some characters from To be Hero & Heroine might show up in Hero X

Confused as hell to find out that the new Nice is not even the MC, X was listed as the main on MAL. Does that mean we will get all 10 heroes character introducton each from 1st POV? Not sure how they could possibly pull that off while keeping up the hype...

Is moon just dead like that? Took a peek on the EP.2 trailer, seems like they hold a funeral for her, but she seems to be alive as well after that, or getting replaced perhaps? Wasn't Nice replacement merely possible just because a lucky coincidence? I mean, she is not even a hero tho.

All of the other characters beside the heroes are not even listed on the MAL alongside their VAs.

@Dzentelmen2 it's a mix - the whole show is a mix of a bunch of art styles and animation styles. The pvs have a variety of styles too. It's absolutely outstandingly good animation, even including the 3D I will say. Definitely worth watching.

I knew Moon not gonna last long when she's not on any poster or PV video

but i wonder if a Moon die could they just replace her with someone else like they did to Nice? after all this world has weird power scaling system where anyone can become hero if they popular enough. so replacing Moon with someone else should be no problem

Tbh, it's good and so unique how they switched from 3d to 2d and back again to 3d.. love the animation looks so great.
But well personally not into 3d, kinda not my thing and feel inconsistency while I'm watching it.
Once again, ngl it's unique and so fresh tho but yeah, I'm not gonna watch the rest.

@I_love_Furina you can 100% just watch this as a standalone thing. I expect the most the previous shows *might* play into it is that a past character might show up in the background or as an easter egg or the likes. This show is very separate and seems to be a fully different world/setting, no real relation or connections - and it's outstanding and 100% worth watching.

I am glad this is very different than the two previous seasons. Like the first one had some strange charm to it, but the second was unwatchable.

The main things I like in Tu Bian Yingxiong X are its weird social satire humour, the fast pacing + the way how it drowns its viewers with information, but also counts them being in the joke.

Not a big fan of the switching between many styles (even MAPPA has worked on it), but the dominant part is also the best part - the 3D CGI which is on par with Cong Gu Huo Niao Kaishi: Long Cheng Fengyun. This means its a bit behind cutting edge stuff like Bai Lian Cheng Shen, Cang Yuan Tu and the second season of Zhu Xian, but still fine quite complex when needed.

As story and setting it reminded me a bit of Tiger&Bunny (the media aspects including the producer chick...by the way, she has the best VA and I am watching this with the chinese dub), Sentai Daishikkaku (the impersonation aspect) and Wuliao Jiu Wanjie.

That was alright. I didn't quite expect the 3D animation to be present throughout the entire episode, but it's not terrible and I'll definitely get used to it. I assume this will mostly be for the Nice arc.

This world is a dystopia! I was getting Blade Runner vibes from the blimp projector. The fact that Nice felt the need to appear perfect by doing his signature hand sign even as he was jumping probably suggests the reason for his suicide. I fully expect to learn more about the previous Nice in future episodes. Enlighter has been suspecting Nice to be an actor "for a while", so I think the previous Nice was an actor as well.

Also, poor Lin Ling. The contrast between a constant hyper-capitalistic stream of advertisements promoting heroes as perfect personalities and a single 'loser' stuck in a dead-end job is hilarious, but it's also disturbingly relevant.

Finally, some additional information if you're interested:

  • In the original Chinese, the glitching of the screen right after Nice #1 walks off makes the sound "Nice-ce-ce-ce-ce". In Chinese, sǐ (死) means death, so it sounds like "Nice死死死死死".
  • A Chinese joke that I don't think will get translated very well is when the rank 249th hero, Enlighter, is mistaken for rank 250th. 250 in Chinese is 二百五, which also means idiot.
  • To Be Hero X is a collaboration between multiple Chinese animation studios, so expect the animation style to change a lot.
@detarameMAL

I might be wrong but one of the 2d animation studios apart from studio LAN which did linkclick is probably the indie studio that did Fog Hill of the 5 Elements?, the 2d sections in this ep defently looked like their artstyle but way more polished than in fog hill s1.

Incredible animation highlighted by yet another great soundtrack by the legendary Hiroyuki Sawano. I can't help but find myself intrigued by the story as it's already gone in a direction that I didn't expect from all the promos.
All in all it's a great start to what I hope to be a great series.

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting it to be CGI. Probably is because the only trailer I saw of it was the announcement trailer. It was cool though. Seeing that fight between “Nice” and the boss character was interesting. It will be cool to see how it progresses. Especially after the reveal at the end of the episode.

To Be Hero X is the best 2D/3D fusion anime ever made. The 3D animations are so fluid and the transition to the 2D animation is absolutely amazing. Lin Ling is an instantly likable character and that cliffhanger rivals anything from Solo Leveling. Good job, BiliBili!!
