"Fowl play" and what that would theoretically entail is humorous to think of in this context though.

The matches thing is probably the most passive aggressive way to try to kill someone to point someone could get away with it never risking more than a charge of endangerment if anything if it worked so it's kind of clever in that way.

wait oops it's foul not fowl xD

wow, what a plot twist!
and now Takao got prosecuted for "missjudge and misshandling patient".

tbf, i'm understand the conclusion of this "crips" case, but the way Takao explain is too straight to the point, like she expect everyone (and us audience) are group of rocket scientist. even Detective Conan (a.k.a. Case Closed) doesn't that bad

Wrecking the bike is beyond fucking stupid. Like braincell destroying stupid. I want to like it but it's making it really hard to. And he should pay for it? It's not a funny gag.

Ugh, this was an unusually bad episode

  1. They failed to explain why Murota's flesh caught fire after the pack of matches self combusted
  2. Kotori, who has been shown to be very physically fit and capable of throwing adult men, attempted to persuade the suicidal and nigh despondent woman to escape from the middle of the fire she started, rather than just picking her up and carrying her out
  3. Nobody mentioned the possibility of her attempted murder of her father was in self-defense. Maybe this is a cultural thing, but still, I feel like someone should've at least mentioned it
  4. After the motorcycle cleared the debris, the police ran in to help them out, which they could've done more easily and more safely earlier on in the fire, prior to the debris falling in the first place
  5. I'm not a motorcycle owner, nor have I ever driven one, but my understanding is that it's not just something the average person could do successfully without practice or training, yet both Kotori and Ameku did it successfully (Ameku is more understandable, since she would've just had to rev the engine as much as possible, but still)

I hope this was an anomalously low quality episode, and that the remainder of the show continues at the high standard set by the previous episodes

I agree, especially #2.

I hope the anime redeems itself with the following episode.

I speak for everyone when I say we all stand with Haruka and all victims of domestic abuse. Murota was an abusive pos and had all of us thinking he was some nice old man. A story that I sadly know all too well IRL. Just because you get old don’t mean forget about the shit you did in the past. Karma comes back to get you.Rest in piss. It’s a shame no one listened to Haruka until it was too late.

She did everything she was supposed to and went thru all the appropriate channels, of course she was gonna lash out. Who wouldn’t? It’s unfortunate that others got roped into it, but I don’t blame her or see her as a villain at all. Just a victim of awful circumstances. Given Japan’s focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment in sentencing, I imagine with her backstory she’ll not get as much time as you’d think.

This show is really not afraid to tackle uncomfortable topics and motives. I love that, feels like watching an actual detective show and adds a layer of unpredictability you don’t usually see in anime.

Usually it’s Kotori coming to save Takao, but today it was her turn to repay the favor! She’s such a tsuntsun but no way she was letting her boo die in a fire lol. But man I feel bad for Kotori, first his car, now he’s responsible for Mai’s bike too?!! 😂 gonna miss this next week!
@Marinate1016 Not just that, even his assistants also should pay the price of their ignorance. They've been working with their Boss for years, but they didn't take any actions, seeing how the Boss' wife and daughter were badly injured, and they didn't care at all.

Ikari should be shame of himself, that he's a coward who couldn't face the future and society, he had the chance to do right thing, but he was too scared. I bet he probably had seen his Boss' true colors and he decided to keep quiet. This is the karma for him, death by cowardice, for believing in curse rather than scientific miracle, and deserve an unceremonious depart in the funeral.

Kuramoto Aoi should also to be blame, because for turning a blind eye on this situation, despite being the hardworking researcher. She didn't even see it coming, that the matches, which she used are White Phosphorus made than normal ones. It is too late for her to realize, just like it was too late for her to save Haruka's mother.

The only person who stood up was Kagaya, but like the other two, he was too weak despite he saw how his boss treated his family, the only thing he can do was be a scapegoat, to redeem his mistake, if it is meant compensate Haruka's feelings.

These should have been added in Haruka's motives, they were all obsessed with History research, but didn't care for their friends and family. Ikari had forgotten about his wife, Kuramoto Aoi was too focus on her goal, to be the best writer, and the boss was thinking about being famous archeology than his family. Seeing the artifact and records from ancient era, burn away, was a fitting ending, to forget everything, like throwing away all the bad memories.

Few irks for this and previous episodes:

  • Kotori overexplaining that Yuuta bombed his car even though us viewers saw it coming from a mile away.
  • Takao explaining to a DETECTIVE signs of domestic abuse, maybe wouldn't bother me so much if he didn't act so clueless.
  • Awkward scenes, like Kotori staying behind in fire and did absolutely nothing.

Wow, possibly the best episode so far. I definitely didn't think about white phosphorus matches but I feel like there would be a million better ways to try to kill someone but still I think the overall episode was a success. The VAs (sub) were amazing in this episode and things got kind of dark showing Murota as being an abuser of his wife and daughter. That scene where he was repeatedly kicking them had me feeling sympathetic with Hanuka. It almost makes you feel bad that she has to go to jail.

It was refreshing to see Takao "save" Kotori for once, and then try to act all nonchalant about it when he mentions it to her.

I'm begin to look forward to this anime so I hope it doesn't fall into an indefinite hiatus. 2 weeks break is a not a good sign.
@phantomfandom damn, I did not know that was happening, I also hope this hiatus isn't indefinite and also when it does come back that the quality they've shown so far is maintained.

Kotori sits in the burning building, Ameku smashes with the bike and gets down to have a heart to heart, THEN the detective just walks into the fire?? I couldn't even follow the story because I was just laughing at how absurd it all was, surely they should've all burnt to a crisp. To top it all off nobody has even smoke inhalation injuries. Very medical of them. This one really lost me, if episode 7 doesn't have an interesting premise for the next mystery I'll probably drop this series.

This series gets worse with each new episode. The police in this series are so incompetent it's unbelievable.

Guy admits to his wrongdoing, spills gasoline all over the floor of the wooden shed, and the police just allow everyone to go deeper inside because....
Ameku using the Motorcycle to barrel her way in was just disgusting.
This is a series that could be so good, but the author does take this shit seriously at all.

ANOTHER very good ep

i was really not expecting the girl to be the culprit

bravo, i was almost scared for the dude...
@otakuweek This show is super predictable. As soon as the showed the duaghter in the Hospital room my wife says "yup she the killer" in all seriousness. If someone is shown, they will certainly be used as fodder for Ameku to look smart.

@otakuweek that's I correct we watch it together. The culprits of each crime have been pretty easy to pin down.
Episode 2 the only person we were introduced to was the doctor.
Episode 4 we were introduced to the assistant, the daughter, and the head of the family.
No one else. No red herring, no other potential suspects. Just lazy writing.

Crazy that they let Hakura sleep in a hospital bed even though she wasn't admitted. US hospitals make you sleep in a chair lol

Huh, that was a wild conclusion. I wasn't expecting the daughter to be the mastermind behind all of this. I wonder who's gonna pay for Kotori and Mai's vehicles lol

Wow, who knew Prof Murota was a real POS. After learning what kind of person he really was, I'd say he got what he deserved...and to burn in hell for it. If not hell and simply the afterlife, then I hope his deceased wife's spirit finds me and kicks his ass. He got off easy in my opinion with his quick death, with the years of psychological and physical abuse that caused multiple broken bones and even possibly the death of Haruka's mother.

Prof Ikari died from exposure to the cave's cryptococcus fungus causing his meningitis combined with his use of immunosuppressants, so he his death was accidental. I hope Ashiya Enzo's tomb gets destroyed or something...it's far too dangerous to be allowed to exist with that lethal fungus growing there where people can just waltz right in out of curiosity.

It's too bad about Kuramoto Aoi though, who was the first to die after Murota unknowingly gave her the swapped out matches to Aoi. An unintentional innocent victim who was indirectly killed in a very brutal way due to Haruka's actions. The white phosphorus matches, combined with the space heater, ignited and made her flammable clothes catch on fire, turning her body into a human candle with the "wick effect" using body fat as fuel, burning her alive until she was nothing but ashes, with nothing to bury in her funeral. The more I think about it, the more f-ed up it is for someone to die like that. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Except for Prof Murota though, he gets zero sympathy from me...I'd say he deserved his fate, and then some.

Kagaya will be found guilty for bombing the funeral of Prof Ikari's corpse, arson, and attempted tampering with evidence to conceal a crime. But at least he didn't kill anyone, so he might get out sooner...But since society tends to favor women more, I wouldn't be surprised if Haruka got a similar sentence length to Kagaya despite her much heavier crimes of one count each for first degree murder and manslaughter, plus arson.

Ashiya Yuuta is off the hook for the murders, but he's still gonna have to pay for the death threat, car bombing, 2 counts of attempted murder, and assault charges.

One thing I didn't understand was Kotori's attempt to persuade Haruka in the fire. If I were in his shoes, I'd just say F it, apologize for what I'm about to do, and forcibly throw her over my shoulder while running out of there. Convincing her not to take her own life can come afterwards. The both of them were gonna die from the smoke alone had the fallen debris not been cleared by the bike.

RIP to the bike. I bet Mai is gonna be pissed after she finds out. I hope both the bike and his sweet RX-8 get replaced with new models. Maybe Kotori and Mai can go dealership shopping together at the same time. I hope they both have insurance. I know they're well-compensated doctors, but it's still gonna be a heavy blow to the wallet regardless.

That ending fire scene was ridiculous. It was done for the sake of it but so poorly thoughout and defies common sense. The case itself closed with the most cliche culprit reveal too. It had interesting stuff but once again a letdown. Mai's pride and joy also got sacrificed in the process and Takao got some kind of lawsuit?

Episode 7 airs on 19th so no new episode next week.

Everything up till the explanation of the murder and motive was really good and I thought this might be the best episode of the series so far, even if some scenes dragged on to state the obvious. Then the fire happened and everything went to shit with the anime bullshit again. Please, if the anime can focus on the medical mysteries instead of whatever the fuck they tried the second half of the episode, it would be a good show.

I understand the show wanted me to feel emotional as Ameku was giving her speech in the middle of the fire, but the entire time all I could think was how dumb the scene is and the stupidity of all the characters standing in the middle of a burning shed to listen to a 4 foot gremlin talk no jutsu a suicidal girl not only broke my immersion, but made me lose a few brain cells as well.

I think the biggest problem of the series is that the writer just does not know how to write geniuses. Ameku comes off feeling like Benedict Sherlock, where she is quirky and somehow comes up with the correct solution in extremely forced manner, but that genius capability is completely absent in every other interaction apart from solving the mystery. Ends up feeling like Ameku solved the case not because she is a genius, but just because the writing demanded she solves it no matter what.

This case was just pathetic and embarrassing.

I'm glad that many people here have already described all the nonsensical, needlessly-convoluted happenings. The bike crash into a burning building and the relaxing chat inside were just chef's kiss.

I think I'll keep watching this show only because I'm fascinated by how bad this is on so many different levels...

I kinda love how this episode turned out. The earlier episodes in this mystery were convoluted but this capper ties things up in a big ridiculous bow. does it make sense? not really? is using f***ing white phosphorus to poison and kill a man overkill?? you bet. Ameku and Takanashi have some really fun speeches as well. I still wish Mai was involved in more adventures as a main character because I think she balances out Dr. Ameku and Takanashi so much better but its baby steps i guess. Throwing in domestic violence is just taking this story to the next level of curve balls.

First bro's CAR, then Mai's BIKE, damn bro...

Wow, turns out to be quite the complex case. Or rather, a messy one. Anyhow, I like the conclusion. Kind of forgot about her, but remembering back, she was slightly sus. She will be serving time, but honestly any good reason for revenge should be met with leniency. And also the fact that that glasses dude was willing to take the fall for her? Extreme, but wow what a real one. Still sad about a bike from a piece of fiction, but mad respect for Takao going into the flames to save them both- and even to convince the daughter to keep on living.

The mystery of Enzo Ashiya's curse, more than having already claimed the lives of Murota and the other Teito University professors, has now invoked against his daughter Haruka. Ameku trying her damndest to understand the severity of the problem, and a call from Inspector Sakurai only deepens the mystery. And Mai having the last recorded blood samples of Murota, proves to be the final piece of the puzzle to this long-awaited mystery: the case of arson, all conducted by one man - Kagaya Masashi.

Add in all of the abnormalities with white phosphorous, which can prove to be toxic and ignites on a regular cigarette match, Enzo's curse is more or less a co-worker on the verge of revenge against Murota, and the acts themselves, on a case-by-case basis, can prove to be the trickery in and of itself by way of help from within, and that alibi is aided by his own daughter Haruka, as a result of domestic abuse. This is only made even worse when she could not voice out the fear that suppressed her to take revenge on her own family, and as bad as it is, the dreams that Takanashi had were playing exactly on his head, plus Ameku abusing Mai's bike just to talk some sense into Haruka herself, this is definitely a case where psychology is overplayed to the extreme.

Definitely a case where more questions are raised than answers for logic and sense...and a pending lawsuit against Ameku?
