Surprisingly enjoyed this way more than I thought, I'm going to miss it. They did good to develop Broughston, Angelica, even Kelvin which I feel like other shows wouldn't bother to do. Overall just a well rounded anime and satisfying ending, 1000x better than I Parry Everything. Wouldn't mind a season 2 of this at all

I'm glad the show ended with that amazing opening song!!! Unapologetic ossan energy radiates from it. A mixture of nostalgia, bitterness, regret, hard work, and joy! Hurah!

And if the past 11 episodes were about Rick finding and pursuing his dreams (of becoming an adventurer), this final episode is the embodiment of him expressing that hard work with a glorious fist-fight with one of his mentors.

One thing I really appreciated about this show was Angelica's character development. The siblings were pretty despicable in the first quarter, so to have her turn around like that was refreshing to see. It is unfortunate much of the show was taken up by the tournament though; feel like there was a lot of potential that we just didnt get to see. Show will be remembered as pretty mid if it doesn't get a season 2.

anyway, time to watch (apologies in advance for the rambling; writing the post as I watch the episode)

Man, Broughtson's story is really sad, reminds me of the phrase "It's lonely at the top"

Now that was a refreshing resolution; no pointless fighting or "attack first and ask questions later" just a misunderstanding that was cleared up quickly and two people that chose to talk

"Long and insignificant tale"? Broughston, you do realize that flashback just took up 1/4 of the episode, right?

Ah, officially confirmed; so Reanette does like Rick. Hopefully that gets explored more in a possible season 2

Ah, classic trope- they are so powerful the barrier is being strained against their strength... and it breaks. Good thing the elf took initiative there

Wow; can't believe they don't have concussions after all those head punches

Uh oh... hope that stadium was insured. And... huh, Rick's inborn skill; and here I was thinking it was over for Rick

"The real match begins now" Then... what have we been watching for the last quarter of the episode? (Apologies, I know, bad joke)

Wow, what a finale to the fight. Kinda saw coming that Rick was going to lose, but it's good to see Brougston satisfied (Rick fell first so I think that means he lost)

And yet Brougston sees Rick as the winner... eh, doesn't matter, the team got the gem they wanted after all

Ah, they explained the Reinhard age thing; I was beginning to this this was one of those shows where they arbitrarily make people hundreds of years old, but that actually makes sense in-world

And... well, I guess that's one way to unload the belt onto someone else

Wait a minute... didn't Rick break Broughston's neck thing? (Not sure what its called)

Wow, Angelica embracing Broughtson's training- did NOT see that coming

"I've had more than my fill of irrational things". Don't worry Angelica- there's only 3 minutes left in the episode so just bear with it a little longer

Wait... where did those cymbals come from?

"They're ridiculous to the very end" said at the end of the episode, lol

Well the good news is the episode didn't end with a title card that said "the end" or "thanks for watching" which traditionally means no follow up seasons, so the odds of a season 2 are pretty good.

The episode itself was good overall, but the show as a whole... definitely felt like a "setting the stage" season and hoping for a season 2 that builds off what we saw.

Till then, this was a mid show. Not terrible, not spectacular. Well, that's one more Summer 2024 show complete, one step closer to fall

Maybe not the best show of the season but one of the surprises. Always good to go into a show with zero expectations and have them greatly exceeded.

Just a couple of bros beating the hell out of each other. This was a very satisfying season finale, Broughston's backstory was neat and helped make Rick's journey reach an impactful endpoint beyond just his own dream. One thing I really appreciated is despite his Super Saiyan power up Rick passed out before his mentor. If Rick had pulled off a complete upset it would've gone from an impressive duel to feeling a little cheap to me.

One of the better shows of the season. Had some really solid laughs throughout. Rick's self doubt didn't outstay its welcome and after a few episodes he had a growing confidence culminating in having to try and take on an unbeatable S-class orc and I enjoyed being along for the ride. If there's a season 2 I hope Angelica gets a prominent role, she played off Rick and Broughston in the tournament arc so well.

And if there's a second season hopefully they figure out something to do with the elf and the vampire because they were one note bores throughout the entire run of the show.

Rick & Broughston went all out, and ended up in a draw. I wonder if there's gonna be a second season... 🤔

What a crazy fight! It was brutal to see Rick activate the Kaioken and face Broughston laughing maniacally; while Broughston finally fulfilled his dream of fighting someone on equal terms, destroying everything in his path. It was strange that the barrier lasted so long after so many battles.

The series started a bit boring, but episode after episode, it became more interesting and exciting. The OP was perfect, fitting the message of the anime. The only thing missing now would be an OVA with Reanette in the hot springs!

Legit one of the best fantasy shows out there. Unlike shows of the same ilk, it actually has character progression and all the characters are actually smart and capable.

Broughston is very impressed of Rick. His skills, fighting techniques, determination and dream fulfilment are the best perks.

Even if the match was indeed a fair draw, I still suppose that Rick won. He proved to be extremely strong and his hard training paid off.

Rick should definitely take Reannette to the hot spring trip, it would be so nice to see them together in that special place😍

I hope the producers are having plans for making a second season as well.

its quite popular to see S2, though they would have to retconn the last 5 min since, technically, Angelica immediately also set off with them to join in their training.... and you can imagine how that goes XD

Simple and really nice show. Grew a lot, I agree with those who thought the opening was rather horrible. At the beginning you'd think "Parry Everything" and this were clone shows. I actually think we'll see a second season.

Good show, terrible music, but the fight was good and the ending was a good point to stop. I don't like the love triangle thing but we'll see how that pans out. Rick has a pretty cool skill and it was nice to see them pass off the belt after they got what they needed. I'd like to see another season.

Rick went full on Jonathan Joestar at the end of their fight, that was beautiful to see. Still, I'm now confused by Rick's ability - either it's NOT a multiplicative power, always granting him a flat buff that's about on par with the difference in strength between a rank F adventurer and a low S-rank (as he defeated the dragon before training), or there is some condition which increases the multiplicative power, otherwise he would've outmatched Broughstone with ease.

Angelica ended up being my favorite character with her ojou-sama accent. I doubt it will get season 2, so I'll just read the manga, which the anime is almost one-to-one with.

Loved the conclusion, with the anticipated arena finale, Broughston's backstory (which was a nice extra that I didn't expect), and then wrapping things up with getting the second gem.

Also liked the added backstory of the member of the Hero's party who brought Sir Broughston onboard after meeting him, and I liked the Jiraiya vibes of him being this powerful guy who's carefree and silly while also being an author.

Hope there's a second season, and would definitely follow it next time if so!

And there's the last episode.

I want to say that while I don't consider Ossan Newbie to be the absolute best anime ever, I think it does well to have a message it wants to get across and also a decent enough understanding of what makes people actually care about certain characters. I think that sometimes, for the characters we just don't really know all that much about yet, they could introduce what they're really after a lot earlier. I'm usually not a huge fan of tournament arcs, but when characters have strength orientated goals like some of the ones we learned about during this arc, the tournament setting lends itself well to that, so it's very forgivable. That is, you have some anime with tournament arcs that just... pretty much reveal a character's skills, maaaaybe some superficial level knowledge about them and their goal... but a lot of the time that goal is just something that seems so placeholder and you can't... truly find much before that really makes them show that the goal is all that important to them unless the character is kinda one-dimensional. Broughston is actually an interesting character in that one can see that all that we learned here actually does lead right back to what he's been doing all this time. Same with Rick. Angelica maybe didn't have that at first, and maybe when the author started the story there was perhaps no intention to make her more than some snooty noble. However, it's fine because they really picked her up from where she had been-- tremendously. They do well to answer the question of what the character wants... and then the question of "no, but what does the character REALLY want?" For example, so done am I with the typical "My family is poor, so I want to do this so they don't have to struggle". Okay. That's like filler goals. What type of lifestyle do you want them to have? Any selfish goals you've got? You want your own room in that family house so you can finally watch your porn stash in secret? You're actually sick of eating one portion of rice every day because you're actually secretly a foodie? There has to be something more. Anyway, I see they know what to do with characters, I hope they give some of the others some similar treatment though!

The humor feels a little dated sometimes, but that's okay. I mean, am I cracking up at Rick getting super motivated over the hot springs with Reanette? No. Is it supposed to be humorous? Yes... but eh. Still, do I feel that an interesting amount of love and passion was put in this story overall to make me easily forgive that? Yes.
I read the manga too, so I'm happy to just see two forms of this story. Nice ride.

Tricked me into watching a battle shounen anime by selling this as a fantasy adventure anime with an Ossan protagonist. Well, it was kinda meh for the most part but the last few episodes gave me the good old dbz vibes. Also, the overall message that it's never too late to follow your dreams is a plus I guess. Would've liked this more if it had a proper story.

I watched the series on muse asia and I love how the comments there is talking about I Parry Everything with the jokes like "I parry my sleep to watch this" is funny since how they were both in muse asia on similar times and how similar they are.

Both were encouraged by their one basic ah skill to be adventurers, but both were discouraged completely in their whole lives until someone much stronger than them multiple of them thought them to become stronger. Both of them trained the hardest out of everhone and both of them are unaware of how powerful they are and misunderstands how the weaker is stronger than them.

Both are outstanding and really fun watches but this one removes the unaware power fast and recognizes his powers and the story with the orc is peak the last episode was amazing and he has a clear goal, in overall this was put better in terms of hook, so if you enjoyed this "I Parry Everything" should be a must watch for you too, it is not better but the hype might be actually better because of how strong he is.

He better get the Happy Hot spring ending is all I'm saying lol.
Personally would have been a bit more satisfied without the "question mark" at the end.
But I guess it's fairly safe to assume that regardless from if he won the race he'd take her on that trip. Also lol, it was obvious right away what she whispered in his ear the only reason to silence it the first time was comedic effect. Anyway this show is pretty much Peak B-series.
I mean it doesn't even try to be an A series, yet succeeds in being very enjoyable regardless of that by focusing on what it does well. Only criticism I might have is Angelica still feels a little "off" or "out of place" here and there but at the same time that's kind of the point so yeah. Also poor Kelvin man... that's gotta feel terrible.
(Also I watched this along side I parry everything when they both aired and I actually did enjoy that one more but it was fairly close and tbf, that's a fairly unpopular opinion I think, so I defenitly think this show is more "likeable" in general, and I parry everything is just more of a niche which you need to "get" to enjoy otherwise you'll just be frustrated and annoyed. Anyway they are both fairly mid though overall but still the "peak" kind of mid if you know what I mean.)

Orcs past was interesting and touching. Honestly didn't think Rick would put up much of a fight. This tournament arc felt a bit too long. Maybe I just wanted to see more of a story development or adventure. Felt like nothing happened these 12 episodes apart from meeting the main cast.
