It's been over 3 years since the conclusion of that masterful adaptation of Vinland Saga and now after the wait which felt like forever, finally season 2's underway, with a timeskip.

We got a glimpse of him in the last minutes of the final episode back in the first season, but here he is in the flesh, Einar. Now i’m not sure if it was the original content Mappa put when we started with Einar’s past life in most probably northern England, since it’s been some good time I last read this arc but if it was then it’s some damn fine way to show the miseries this man’s been through, as he’s going to be one of the most vital characters going forward. Man’s mother died, vikings slashed his sister to death right before his eyes and he was taken as a slave… that’s the cruelty of their world, and this season going forward.

After becoming a slave, there’s only one fate awaiting these people. To be sold or be bought by someone, as it did with Einar too. With Ketel buying him and taking him along to his farmlands in Denmark.. where thus he meets the man, Thorfinn. It’s the start of Ketel’s farm arc and the greatness.

OP’s fire, ED’s fire. It’s the premiere of the season already. You just can't go wrong with right things, ever.

Man's looking like life's been sucked out of him.. damn

can you explain without getting much into spoilers why thorfin is working for farmer? how did he end up like this

Why does Einar remind me so much of Thors, especially on that ship? For a second, I thought we were getting Thors' backstory lmao.

Anyway, this will be my first time watching Vinland Saga live, since I did not watch the first season when it aired in 2019.

Also why did Canute grow a beard? He was such a cute twink, and they ruined him! 😔 And I've seen images from the manga - he gets even less cute. Why MAPPA?

Mangaka Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga is back, 3 years later! And now courtesy of MAPPA, keeping Wit Studio's AOT style alive with this continuation worth of massive hype.

Anonymouz's OP is deep though, and LMYK's ED is pretty much the same.

We end the prologue of Vinland Saga with Season 1, and this new life that's still wrought of life and death from the perspective of Einar, growing up in his village until it was invaded by the Danish, resulting in the murder of the rest of his family and said man ultimately being sold into slavery, being chiseled as a slave for purchase and running away to live on his own survival, he couldn't run away no matter how hard he tried.

The hope for Einar to be freed after seeing this old that's looking for Thorfinn, he was bought by Ketil instead to be brought back to his Jutland farm in Denmark, it reminds him of his family back in Northern England, and this would be the VERY FIRST time that he meets Thorfinn.

What a gruesome prologue for the main guy that that would shape up Thorfinn's life later on, this is just the very start, refreshed once again. The story of Thorfinn's redemption and Einar's salvation, BEGINS NOW.

THE HYPE IS BACK, and let the FARMLAND SAGA BEGIN!

why is thorfinn working for farmer tho?

Be patient, bro. It'll show why. Only the first episode's out, it's too early to be look for answers lol

Waiting for the anime was so worth it. The direction is still as amazing as it was in the first season, and the music is great too. I’m amazed by how consistent this series comes out with 10/10 episodes.

Don’t know if this is really considered a spoiler, since I feel like you can heavily infer what happened based on the end of season 1. I’ll put a spoiler tag just in case though.

Istg this anime is amazing and still not appreciated much. I don't usually like seeing stories of side characters, but damn this animr proves me wrong. The Opening and Ending were slso extremely good. Animation was top-notch.

Just from the first episode i can tell the season is gonna be amazing. This will probably deserve a rating above 9, but won't get it.

It's fucking great to have Vinland Saga back as I was choosing between reading the manga or waiting for the anime. Well, a bit of the first season at first. But, it's Einar's life which is shown in this episode. Pretty much showing us the conditions he lives in and how it feels to be there. Then he meets Thorfinn later on, TIME TO BEGIN A GREAT SEASON.
Great opening and ending

MAPPA GOAT MAPPA GOAT MAPPA GOAT. The best introduction to einar and farmland saga possible. Way better job introducing Einar than the manga.

Did an incredible job of showing the brutality of living near the Vikings, any day they could show up to enslave your village. No wonder king Alfred hated them so much.

I can’t wait to see Thorfinn’s character development animated, some of the best in the medium and based on this fist ep, MAPPA will do an amazing job. Also 24 eps confirmed so plenty of time to give everyone the fleshing out they deserve.

OP is an absolute masterclass omg

Premiere of the season by far. I am at a lost for words.

Haven't experienced the Farmland arc yet, this is already a phenomenal start. Einar's story is both tragic and powerful, showing the brutality of this world and how everything can be taken away so quickly, this episode just only further establishes the pain and suffering of this world and it is simply brilliant. The soundtrack is fucking top tier and it elevates every single scene here, the OP is awesome & the ED is already my ED of the season.

No issues with this episode from my end. I can't wait for next week!

GOATland Saga the GOAT, the GOAT is finally back after so long!

The overall direction, the ambiance, the OST, everything is pitch perfect, to be able to make me feel for Einar and his family quite easily speaks wonders of how great this is.

Thank You Mappa Staff, I'm sad that you have such a busy schedule, I really hope they get to breathe sometime.

It must have been extremely hard for Einar's family to survive after his father got killed, Especially having to share a single brain cell between the three of them :/. It's a good show but after season 1 episode 5 all that has been carrying the show IMO has been hype, stunning visuals, and the OST. Who needs a sensible storyline anyways.

It’s so nice to see Vinland Saga back again, I’d say the only noticeable difference between WIT and MAPPA would be that MAPPA’s backgrounds weren’t as pretty as WIT’s. Although, the backgrounds still did look very pretty, and the rest of the show was absolutely phenomenal especially the transition with Einar to the slave boat.

Finally, Peakland Saga has returned!! Right away we're reminded of the brutality of this world as Einar's mom and sister are slaughtered in front of him and he's sold into slavery. We got a small glimpse of Thorfinn at the end and man, his eyes are just dead. So sad to see compared to how he was in the beginning of season 1. I'm so happy this is back and I can't wait for the emotional rollercoaster that we're going to experience over the next 6 months.

Ah, so the second season of the anime tells Einar's backstory chronologically (with an anime original scene) instead in media res much like how the first season of the anime adapted Thorfinn's story. That's a great parallel between the two.

Interestingly, Netflix and CR's translations are different. Leading to two fitting by different renditions of Einar's sister's name:
Netflix translates her name as Róta, a Valkyrie in Norse mythology. CR translates her name as Lotta, a diminutive of Charlotta, a Scandinavian variant of Charlotte.
Also some subtleties like Einar's mum's final line.
Man, Róta/Lotta has guts. Unfortunately...she does the stand and talk instead of run or fight.

The moment I saw the Hávamál excerpt on screen, I knew MAPPA are giving it their all. I did notice some changes like the slavetrader still has the container of presumblu alcohol but he only tells the slaves to put on the furs in the anime.

Einar endures his enslavement, suffering the pain like he had when he was made an example of to the others after stealing. Old Man Leif hasn't given up on his search for Thorfinn. From where he stands, Einar considers the slave who has someone actively looking to free them fortunate.

Onward to Jutland. Plentiful fields, just like home. Einar has lived all this time, but can he truly start again?
Seeing that rabbit made me recall Ragnar's last feast with Cnut and Thorfinn...
The makings of a man is here with his stubble..
Hopefully MAPPA an upload the OP and ED soon like they did with CSM. They are so damn good!

Horrible first episode.

It's adaptations like this that reminds me how allergic so many anime are to subtlety.

The way. they sucked all personality and fun out of Einar just to beat us over the head with the “slavery bad” message, with the obnoxiously sad piano music and cliche dead family story was so on the nose it was painful. The slavery scenes were supposed to be mundane. Where's Einar's himbo charm?

The way they try and make me feel bad for Einar's family that I've known for about a minute and a half is just insulting.

Very interesting point of view from another character. Mature episode that encompasses sad and true events on medieval time. Along historical facts the feelings… yeah a farming arc but on high tier with a well crafted story and beloved characters, Thorfinn at the end…
