I have a question to LN readers.
I find this second season really boring. Ainz and others of Nazarik are almost not present in this season. Is it the same in the LN ? I mean Ainz is really never in the LN ?

I can understand it is important to developps characters but never shows MC and his group ?

I bought the first volume of the LN but didn't read it yet. and I want to know if I should buy the next ones.

We follow Ainz's POV for volumes 1-3. We also follow his POV for most of volume 10 and 11. And some parts of volumes 6,7,8,9 and 12. Volume 4 and 5 are the only volumes that doesn't have Ainz's POV in it.

Episode 8 is setting up the climax of volume 5. And if you're waiting for Ainz's response to Solution's report, you will definitely love the upcoming episodes.

Keep in mind that these "boring" episodes are build up for the upcoming battle with Jaldabaoth.

If we do get season 3. It will be so good and extremely dark at the same time.

Sebas is one great old man and a favorite now. It seems like Brain and Climb are drawn by his strong nature and great spirit.

I think Brain will mature from being that wimpy dude after being humiliated by Shalltear and Climb is already promising since he fights for the princess. I guess Eight Fingers are in shit and oh that was one manly woman.

Ains should have more screen time, I am tired of not seeing him considering he's the MC of the show.

Episode was good enough for me.

Evileye seems to know a lot, as usual from a mage
Sebas still a gentleman and a powerhouse
I like it that Brain joins Sebas...and Climb too I guess.

Nothing from Ainz this episode.

The buildup is killing me so far, I tried waiting until the whole season aired but couldn’t help myself anymore, can’t wait to see what happens at the brothel as it’s most likely a trap, I’m guessing that the Bald guy with Tattoos(don’t know his name but he’s from the 8 fingers) will end up fighting Sebas based on the OP scenes.

As a build up episode, it was fairly decent.

I especially loved the interactions between these 3 unrelated men.

Though, I did see some really derpy animation frames here and there, but it doesn't matter much in the end.

I wanna see where this climax is going. And what about Solution ? Wasn't she being a delator about Sebas situation ? How will this go ?

I don't think much will happen to be honest. Ainz usually displays a lot of compassion and understanding with his guardians.
A "punishment" will be involved, but I won't expect something drastic.

I mean "Shallchair" was pretty light hearted stuff for a punishment, lol.

Objectively speaking, this is a sigh-worthy adaptation of the corresponding events from the LN. There is just too much backstory and context left out.

I can understand why people dislike Climb. I personally am getting annoyed with him because he's voiced by fucking YUKI KAJI (aka Eren, Shu, Hope, Haruyuki, etc.), even though I actually liked him in the novels. But Brain Unglaus... that guy is legitimately my favorite character in Overlord, and he got completely shafted by this adaptation.

It's just impossible to understand Brain from the anime alone, impossible to understand just how much of a badass he's considered in the New World. Before he fought Shalltear, he was a farmer-turned-genius swordsman who was undefeated until he lost to Gazef Stronoff's [Fourfold Slash of Light] in the Kingdom's equivalent of Dragonball's World Martial Arts Tournament. Gazef then went on to become the the Warrior Captain of the Kingdom and known as the strongest swordsman across the land, while Brain was remembered as Gazef's rival who was capable of fighting him to a standstill.

After being sobered by defeat, Brain swore revenge and went on a journey to hone his sword skills, making money as a unkempt mercenary. Even though he could have easily made more money working for the nobility (like how Gazef works for the King), he did not wants to be tied down by the responsibilities of working for a noble. He eventually came across a rare and expensive weapon forged from the South (basically Asia in our world), his [Katana]. Using it, he practiced a martial art called [Instant Flash], a sword-drawing technique, so hard that it evolved into a faster ability no human could react to: [God Flash], a technique so fast that after striking through his opponent, even blood would not stick to the blade. He also came up with an original martial art, [Field], which granted him within its radius the superhuman senses and precision necessary to slash through an opponent's neck with 100% accuracy.

He combined these two techniques to create the trump card he planned to kill Gazef with: [Whistling Wind], named after the sound of spurting blood made by his opponent's stump of a neck. It's basically the fucking [Amakakeru Ryū no Hirameki]. And then Shalltear just caught it from behind.

Brain was destroyed by this experience because he realized that all his effort, all of his talent was worthless in the face of monsters, but watching the anime, god damn. You just don't get any of that and so he ends up just looking like a little bitch. It's such a shame really, because now you can't understand how meaningful it is when Sebas, who is outwardly human and on the same level as Shalltear, tells Brain that humans can sometimes summon unexpected strength from within themselves if it is for someone else, or how someone like Climb who has no talent for the sword was able to dodge when Brain was frozen in fear. Brain lived as an overdog all his life thinking he was the strongest. He was a selfish man who only ever pursued his own interests, but now someone who he will never be as strong as and someone who will never be as strong as him tells him that true strength comes from the heart, and that changes Brain as a person from here on out.

tl;dr - y they gotta do my boi Brain liek dat?

this episode feel so much faster despite a lot of talking, the influence of Momon as swordsman getting bigger and bigger, and the fact that almost all of the character is connected to Ainz is pretty exciting, Climb with Sebas, Unglaus with Shalltear, and Stronoff with Ainz. i cant wait when they all know that all of those people are Ainz right hand. and also the revealing that Adamantite swordsman are actually Ainz.

Sebas is getting well deserved exposure each episode, his personality are very human like, a gentleman, this build up makes me curious about next episode man.

this got me hype.

The last 3 episodes will feature a lot of Nazarick for sure (especially Momon). For now it's mostly Sebas and then Ainz being cast-away as a side character.

If you really only care about Ainz overpowering everyone, I don't think this series is for you unless you just want to skip to season 3. Though I'd say
it's pretty cool to see how you get to gradually see the effect of Ainz's presence in future volumes looking from the perspectives of the New World characters.

Either way I believe the LN's a lot better in the anime, in nearly every single aspect.

to anyone that says they don't care about the side characters and just wants to see ainz kick ass, Overlord is not for you

Overlord is about building up side characters (in the novel, those side characters are treated as MCs), making you care for them for 9/10 of the whole book, then at the last 1/10 gets stomped by Ainz Ooal Gown

If you don't care about character build up and just want mindly dumb stomping from the MC, there are plenty of shows like that out there, you don't have to watch Overlord

Also, you'll hate season 3 if they ever have one in the future

exactly, they gonna complain the shit out of the third season if there's any of that

Another build up episode, normally that wouldn't be a bad thing but it's already been 8 episodes and hardly anything has happened. The lizard arc was boring and while this arc does look like it'll become more interesting soon it doesn't excuse over half of the season from being average at best. Disappointment of the season for me.

What an elitist comment. Just because someone doesn't like something doesn't mean they don't understand it. You're free to try to discredit the opinions of people who don't agree with you though.

I kind of thought this week will be the 'action' episode but was surprised it was another of the pre-action/buildup/more character development one. I dont mind more Climb and Brain though... no idea why people hate them. They seem well pretty human (the irony lol) and real to me and are good characters. I think it would actually be interesting seeing some humans hanging around Ainz and Friends and seeing them freak out even more at how powerless they are lol. Also hope Brain hangs around long enough to meet Shalltear again, his next reaction will be golden.

Edit: Also seeing how slow we're getting things to progress I have full confidence that Overlord III has already been greenlit and will be announced at the end of episode 13.

Ah so they have heard about Momon & Narberal, I wonder if they will interact at some point, Evileye is fighting against Entoma in the opening so they might.

I knew Climb would overcome that trial, he cares too much about the princess for him to fail that, it was quite the experience though.

Brain seems to have gotten his motivation back, those 3 made shorts work of those assassin's.

Will be interesting to see what happens next with those 3 together for a bit.

Thanks for the summary, was a nice reading for a non LN reader like me, behaviour of Unglaus make more sense now.

Hope he will face or just meet Shalltear again in future to overcome its own fears.

It's gonna take way more than a peptalk from Sebas Tian to COMPLETELY defeat SHaltear

Well, Sebas got himself quite an odd looking squad with him now. Episode was more build up, I expect big things from this arc.

EDIT: Disclaimer: For the non-LN fans, don't worry, this isn't a spoiler. This refers to the events of first season where Shalltear was mind-controlled. I've placed the images in spoiler tags anyway, just in case.

No those didn't defeat her. It was the WORLD item that did it. Without that they would have been completely slaughtered.

If Shalltear didn't have her 100 levels handed to her and actually had to work hard instead of being created powerful, she would have been completely slaughtered. Same damn argument. She was defeated, pure and simple. No excuses.
