Snail shading & movement still awesome both giant & mini versions.
Story's slow but that run & everything's beautiful. Dia's so moh! That metamorphose, but Phos still silly, seems she can now translate snail speak.

I really like this anime. I think the animation is breathtaking and every character comes across as a unique individual. Each episode gets better as it digs into the storyline, I look forward every week.

I too thought it was obvious that Phos was in the snail shell but I was too happy to see Cinnabar helping and showing some interest in Phos's well being so I think it worked out good.

I completely agree. Watching the first episode it took me some time to get used to it, but now I'm in love with the animation. It is so sharp, that few fast paced moments were just breathtaking.

After 3-4 weeks into this season I can say it is one of the most enjoying shows to follow.

The question isn't "What anime do you like?" That is merely a list.
The question is "Why do you like it?" That tells a story. Your story.

Surprisingly this is my favorite anime of the season and the only one that I am really following. It's a pleasure to watch and the premise is so original, I am curious to see what will happen to the gems. When I saw Phos being dissolved by the snail, I was like WTF! It was fun.
So far my favorite gem is Dia. She is trying to live up to expectations, supposedly being the strongest and all that, but she knows she cannot be as strong as Bort, so she is always working to be better. It would be great to have some character growing for her. Btw, in the end, Dia and Phos are facing similar problems.

Dia's just nice to everyoe in general. He even kind of lament how Phos should be nice to people from dya to day, after all, they are immortal so they have to tolerate each others forhundreds of years at least. He also see abit of himself in Phos, because when bort is that good, he's doubting that he's of any use even though he's a diamond. Then there's also how Phos purposely threw away Dia's arm so that it didn't get swallowed, it was the thing he prioritised in that nick of a time. So Dia's pretty feel he's responsible and also thankful.

I know they're genderless and all but this bothers me, why use "He", "Himself", "He's"?

Despite the Japanese choice of words (which seems to be primary when it comes to genderless characters) they're all still 100% females in appearance

Because they identify themselves as male. They used "ore, aniki" which are male pronouns. So if a boy looks feminine you are gonna refer to him as female? That isn't right. They are not 100% female since they are just lump of rock. It is because of the art that you think they looks female but later, there are male characters also look the same. If you want, just refer to them by their name.

Actually, that only happen in fictions and in extreme rare cases. I only see one in all of the anime I have seen, Shiba Kuukaku from Bleach. Tomboy and traps use "boku" . And "aniki" means "big brother".

Out of curiosity, are you aware of any genderless equivalent of "aniki"? Languages usually lean towards the masculine when gender is unknown/undefined. Plus, we have a firmly masculine design and male seiyuu with Kongou-sensei; everybody else has a feminine design with a female seiyuu.

Japanese used "kyodai"means sibling when the gender is unknown and the speaker doesn't know whether the sibling is younger or older but it is rarely used between siblings since one sibling should know the gender of the other . And one theory is that they look up to Kongou-sensei and turn to use masculine pronouns to identify themselves. But they definitely are not female since later in the manga, one of them went bare chest and they don't understand female biology i.e breasts.

Kongou-sensei is a gem too. Kongou is the Japanese for Adamant so it doesn't make sense to see him as male while the rest as female.

That is why I said I only saw one case in fiction. And in another manga, "Tomo-chan wa onna no ko", the MC was raised as a boy to be heir to her family dojo so she used "ore". That caused some hilarious situations with her crush and childhood friend. He believed she is a boy and treated her confession as a joke. She change her speech to "atashi" and doesn't use "ore" anymore.
What you want to see them as is your problem. I will follow what the author and the two translator groups define.

Dia-chan is the best girl<3 OMG I love her. Her voice matches perfectly with the character design too.

Also the argument between Phos and the snail at the end was hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing and smiling.

Oh and that was some amazing animation for Dia's parkour that was really cool.

Really liked this ep, just like the previous 2.

Cinnabar is such a nice person, they did not only helped Dia but even decided to wait longer for Phos to find something only they could do.
I'm watching anime since 2012. I also play games, sometimes.

Don't bother me if you want to 'become friends' or things like that.
It's tiresome. I know you just want to collect some meaningless numbers.

Also with Phos' newfound ability of communicating with this snail and probably more I wonder what she's gonna do with it?

She really is annoying, the same for Bort. That being said i gotta admit this story somehow manages to bring you in.
I will like to see with more detail how the doc ensambles the diamonds when they break as bad as Phos did. I doubt what they showed was literally it so.

Even though Phos wasn't actually the little snail, it seemed to react like it was Phos at some parts. Freaky bunch of coincidences there. It does seem like Phos gained a new ability from their experience inside the shell though: speaking snail.

Based off this episode and the last one, Dia is best.

Every time I'm impressed by the CG in this show I have to pinch myself. CG anime isn't supposed to be good!

But then they stopped caring about it and the snail acted so smart so I started believeing that maybe it really was Phos for some reason, and then it turns out I was right the whole time >.> Jeez these gems just can't see something so obvious!
On the other hand, so many great animation this episode, including Dia's run and Phos' reconstruction. Looks like now she can speak slug...ish. Or whatever.

Probably my favorite episode so far. We finally heard Cinnabears true feelings. And Dia not giving up to save Phos. Everyone kinda bullies each other but they still care a lot. Thanks to Cinna, Dia found a way to save Phos. And ofcourse, everyone started helping Dia to save her.

They're a bunch of good people even though their personality can be pretty shitty sometimes.

And Phos talking to the Snail lol, she can understand it.
Dia's smile in the end was so adorable.

Damn, when Phosphophyllite got consumed by the snail/slug creature and her being gone for a while, all other gems didn't shed a single sense of worries safe for the ever-caring, kindhearted Diamond herself and the hesitant but worrying Cinnabar. That's cold, and quite frankly a jerk move. Though I suspect Phosphophyllite's annoyance and obnoxious interactions for the past 300 years has given these gems a bunch of things they don't like from her, it doesn't justify how totally uncaring they are, sheesh.

Well, at last, Phosphophyllite is saved from the shell. The other gems only did as they were told and saved Phosphophyllite not out of compassion but purely as a duty, unlike Diamond. After all that business, at least she got a new skill now that allows her to understand this creature and is able to directly converse with it. (Though others may just brush it off as her being weird.)

This part was a little bit confusing, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Phos was ever actually the snail, but the show was leading you to believe that originally. Dia just thought they were the snail, and Cinnabar flat out told them that Phos being that snail was ridiculous and a misunderstanding. However since Phos did fuse with its shell, they have a connection
