So this is what Sunrise has been saving up the whole year on. They may have virtually taken the entire year off anime TV season wise but seem to be going out of 2015 strong overall. Of course I always say episode 7-8 is when your average Gundam series really starts taking off and very often never lets up till the end. The other angle that cuts a bit backwards on it is that it usually makes going week to week next to impossible and begs marathoning.

Even I have to admit it after this episode, it's finally become a bonafide Gundam show. Damn that entire encounter with the Hammerhead had me on the edge of my seat. The fights between Mika and that new girl Lafter was so damn gorgeous as well. I'm gonna enjoy what the next episode brings, because I don't see the Tekkadan joining up with these new guys just yet, and I don't see the new guys just letting them leave after they basically jacked their ship so beautifully.

Oh, by the way, I highly doubt that the "darling" Lafter mentioned in the previews is Mikazuki. My bet is the badass pimp of a captain of theirs.

I'm surprised you're so receptive to the show, given how I've seen how critical you are. Maybe it's the general Gundam boner offsetting it? Kind of the same here for particular entries.

IBO is best when it focuses on action despite not being so hot, but this was a noticeable step up in choreography with the Gundam battle.

Mika is still the same Mika (which is a problem), Guts showed some determination in this episode because of Mika's trust in him, Orga further displaying how Mika's presence influences his decision making, Eugene has been completely pacified by the confidence Orga had in his ability in the second to last episode, and so on.

Another example of ineffectual storytelling deals with Kudelia. She's downcast that she'll simply get in the way if she stays on the bridge, turning to a lack of confidence, and then that value gets turned around by Atra saying "let's go" as if going on the bridge was a matter of fact. It only serves to reinforce a character trait that didn't need it in a redundant one, which is one of the show's flaws in a bigger way. The show emphasizes "what I (you) can do", but how about having her make use of her persuasive speaking ability in negotiations like the one featured in today's episode?

Not a real fan of the new characters introduced so far, but it's only been one episode. Generic back to back bravado and commentary isn't exactly engaging. We also got another cartoonishly evil adult to add to the pile.

I know there is a massive bias against mecha anime in MAL, but the score of this show is a crime compared to some others this season. Week in and week out, this series is delivering the goods. Best Gundam TV series in a long, long time IMO.

How can she even be in the position to negotiate when she herself is considered a bargaining chip. Besides, Biscuit already tried to leverage a negotiation, but it didn't work. Why would a well funded group negotiate with a bunch of rag tag rebels anyway from a position of weakness?

Let's face it Kurdelia is gonna be a figurehead character with not much power to do much of anything. No need to beat the dead horse.

I wasn't implying that she should be able to turn the situation around or cause a new course of action that deviated from the actual episode. You're right she's in no position at that point in time, but have her lack of confidence at least be attached to an actual failure, a failure stemming from an inability to do what she does best because of the situation they're in, that gives the inner conflict more weight than just mere repetition.

It's very hard to screw up a Gundam series for me though of course it has happened. In general I've actually been enjoying a season for pretty much the first time all year and that includes much of what's on my watch list. Young Black Jack, OPM, Gundam, Noragami, Lupin III Italian Adventure. Sakurako-San has fallen a little by the way side and I want no part of other popular stuff like Monogatari and some of the LN series on the season but overall I'm enjoying the current crop of new release anime for the first time all year again probably because it feels like it has more to offer than just some hyped up light novel and/or visual novel related things that I barely care about and has a healthy mix of old school, new school franchises as well as varied genres. Seems to only ever really happen in Fall anymore though.

I'm not impossible to please at all really though, it's just been a really really REALLY bad year for my kind of anime up until about this season save a slight reprieve in Spring and I just simply don't have the same kind of tastes as the majority necessarily. What surprises me more is that people are actually enjoying a Gundam series. I mean it's not huge numbers, but if you had told me after a decade of constant negativity that two months in a Gundam series would still be enjoying an overwhelmingly positive reception I would have said that people don't know what happens to Gundam series in the 21st century.

What makes you be certain she won't do this later? We are 7 episodes into the story. It seems as if you are expecting the characters to develop over night. I think the characters (already) have more depth than in any Gundam I've seen up to this point. To my experience Gundam has never been known of very fleshed out characters, even if it has plenty of memorable ones. It's rather campy overall

Holy shit, that was awesome! That fight was top tier stuff and i adored how well they uses space as an environment in the fight, alot of gundam shows dont seem to use space for anything more than just adding weightlessness during fights so seeing this much care into it is fucking great especially with that part using the asteroirds.

I was expecting just a grunt tier fight but the made this GOAT as fuck. I love how they made everyone actually feel like they are on par with power even the gundam.

Not really besides the Mika comment I didn't elaborate on. I do think Eugene's conflict with Orga was a big nothing and was resolved too early, though.

What makes you be certain she won't do this later? We are 7 episodes into the story.
I'm talking about the here and now, and how repetitive Orphans is.

It seems as if you are expecting the characters to develop over night. I think the characters (already) have more depth than in any Gundam I've seen up to this point.

I don't think so, and I find the cast rather flat or basic at the moment. You could elaborate if you wish. Someone like Kamille has character flaws highlighted, how they conflict with his desires and made it hard for him to satisfy or reach them, how they fuck up his life situation and significantly affect other characters, and elaborated on what has shaped his interests, behavior, and point of views within the first three episodes. Mika doesn't have any significant character flaws and it's episode 7. Note the amount of episodes Zeta has and Orphans has. Nothing impairs him or stops him from accomplishing his goals or fulfilling his desires in the show so far outside external forces. Giving information like his desire to build a farm was a step in the right direction, but could use more relation to what little of his inner character that's been displayed.

It seems like Destiny being a blight is a universal perception among hardcore fans.

I thought 00 got a mostly positive reception? I'd figure at least on MAL.

What should be noted is the disparity between G-Reco's reception and Orphans' due to their close proximity in release date. That's surprising. I'm no Tomino fanboy, but I liked G-Reco by the seventh episode more than Orphans.

Wow I really like the battle choreography in this episode, it was intense and entertaining to watch. At first it felt like Akihiro only saw Mikazuki as his rival-friend, but it's definitely more obvious now that he also respects Mika and wouldn't want to disappoint him by not finishing the task he was given.

Nice to see that this Naze Turbine guy seems to look down on the Alaya Vijnana system and probably has some sympathy for the kids now (or at least he's curious). Good job for mentioning it, Maruba. I think it just goes to show that knowing more about the bigger picture is important to making one's decisions. Although who knows, maybe even after listening, Naze will still be an enemy.

Okay, I have had enough of Lafter. The continuation is what makes this show a real treat. Orga's decisions are heavily affected by him wanting to not disappoint Mika. Really loved the moment when Orga was talking with Biscuit regarding Teiwaz. He took a glimpse at Mika, looked at his curious eyes looking at his direction as Mika nonchalantly munching and immediately decided not to change the initial plan without any hesitation.

Mika is more than just a pilot to Tekkadan. He seems to be uninterested but most of the crucial decisions are made through him by Orga. Just one comment from him that he wouldn't want any of his comrades to be separated was enough to make the entire negotiation fall off.

I am on board the ship that shall create a major conflict later on in the series.

Well, only the people who liked season 1 enough watched season 2, meaning the ratings were already gonna be inflated. Besides, MAL ratings are like a popularity contest more than anything. Gundam isn't so popular here.
