Wow, well ok then. Clearly this isn't an anime for you to enjoy and I don't think what I or anyone else says will change your mind on that. Which is a shame because I don't believe it's nearly as bad as you're making it out to be but to each their own.

I finally get it. First half of this episode made me realize it's a modern show for little children. It's colourful, disgustingly stupid, things move and make noise, "characters" are annoying and make faces. And shit happens. You sit your kid in front of it and have 24 min for yourself. And then it grows to be a moron.

Characterization? You call that characterization? This show doesn't even have characters to begin with. Only walking cliches and plot devices. Kicking a pile of dirt is more of a characterization than whatever this show is doing.

At the risk of sounding 2deep4you, are we watching the same show? Would Dirt run away from an arranged marriage? Would Dirt look after a little girl with no memories, who had the mentality of a three year old? Would 2 piles of Dirt, who with no relations to the little girl in their care, take her out into the city, show her a good time, and just generally spoil the little girl? Shogo and Koan may not be anything special, or eye catching, or have the name Kirito and Asuna, but they are doing the best they can for this little girl. They have shown characterization in the way the act towards each other. I'm sorry if it isn't the giant Mecha fight you thought it would be. But to say there are no characters in this show? That's just flat out wrong.

But you're wrong, there has been plenty of characterization if you just pay attention. It's just been slow and subtle, but has been happening. We are learning the likes dislikes and even habits of each of the cast, and a lot about the world they live in; if you can't see that, that's on no one but yourself, and complaining that it's a "bad show" because it doesn't spell it out for you to your face and you're unable to catch the subtle development is completely unfair.

And I was waiting for a post just like this one to prove that you're the typical action junkie

They've already shown to you many examples of characterization and just because you didn't see it/care for it that doesn't mean that it wasn't there nor does it mean that it was bad

I swear these days people have such a short attention span that nobody pays attention to anything anymore, yet alone actually thinking long enough to interpret what's going on

I just watched the episode and it's almost hilarious watching people get so angry over dancing vegetables and a little bit of SOL in the show. Every week people find new reasons to drop this show. I enjoyed the episode and had a great time watching dumb dancing vegetables and everyone having a barbecue.

Despite people complaining of a lack of characterization, I had the opposite feelings this week. We found out why Sougo is so interested in his rock hobby and what drives him. We watched Felia experience new emotions and feelings when separated from Sougo and how that can affect her powers. Like I was saying with episode 3, they do a great job of slowly building up how the powers work and the just the world in general. I'd love more information about the ambitions of the antagonists and hopefully we get that next week.

The show is average fun and I'm enjoying it for what it is. Keep on hatin'

@NeoRevan How can you know what I thought this show will be?

Case in point. Dirt wouldn't do that and they are not doing it either. What you mentioned wasn't characters doing something, it was standard scenes happening for writer's convenience. It was "stills from a city" scene, "random villain" scene. "kid being silly" scene, "working in a caffe" scene, "girl running away for some reason" scene.

There's no motivation for character's actions shown, hell there's no logic in what they are "doing". Last episode you have a cardboard villain chase the retard and now they are letting her show off her powers in front of customers. They are not reflecting on what is happening, they are not making any decisions, it's just shit happening.

Typhoon is coming so there's place for more acting stupid and pretty much all that is going on works like that. Something is happening so you can have a retard be stupid or stone be a comic relief, have some blushing, have something fall and be "funny", have a bad guy be bad, have something twirl, shine and make noise so kid in front of the screen is occupied.

If you're content with writers showing you the oldest tricks in the book and asking after every one "hey, do you recognize that, what a jolly good fun we have, right?" then good for you (I guess). But don't be surprised that people are calling bullshit. Don't expect them to enjoy something as half assed as this.

After seeing a certain number of series shows like that just annoy you. And not because they are doing the same thing. It's because they are doing it poorly. It's like having someone tell you the same simple joke and messing up the punchline over and over again.

As I said, it's a dumb kid's series for a Saturday morning. Don't try to make it more than it actually is.

What. The. Fuck.

That vegetable dancing crap is literally one of the stupidest things I have ever seen in any anime ever. Also, what kind of brain-dead fuckwits go to school in a goddamn typhoon? Oh wait, they only went cos the script told them to so that the magic kid with the mental age of a 2 year old could get kidnapped by the lame, crappy generic villains. Seriously, why should I care about villains who think breaking plant pots makes them edgy? And can that stupid rock snake thing just stop existing? It's so fucking annoying.

Is this really the show that had two really solid first episodes with interesting plot and mecha stuff? Cos everything since has been absolute shite.

Score dropping lower each episode. It's starting to feel a lot like Classroom Crisis which was a failure until the end; at least CC had a more interesting setting and concept.

There's a difference between a slow paced story for dramatic effect/characterization and a lack of urgency regarding everything in an anime, even the delay between spoken lines. This anime is definitely the latter and that's not a good thing. It hasn't made us care about the lackluster characters at all; it doesn't even feel suspenseful or dramatic that Felia was kidnapped, instead provoking the response of "oh, okay."

I want to know how much of this episode's budget was wasted on animating vegetables. Seriously?

So much wasted potential, it really hurts me watching this shipwreck sink.

"Hey we have only 12 episodes for this and we fucked up ep3 pretty hard. What do we do to get story and characters rolling again?"
"How about filling 10min with vegetables and shitty sfx?"
"sounds good."

Just saw that the script writer worked on Code Geass and couldn't figure out how he could go so wrong. But it turns out he only did some of CG and don't have any other good stuff. And they let him do some original stuff EPIC FAIL

Edit: Also, how dumb am I to keep watching it? I just see some favorable review ob this and keep hoping it might have potential. But no more, never watching it again.

Its sad that this show is better at slice of life then at its serious moments, despite the former never being advertised at all.

Best episode of the series thus far (Though most episodes of any anime still would top Episode 3's shit factor), but it still doesn't excuse the poor writing when it actually gets serious. We're in the first third into the series and they haven't explained a damn thing. Mainly, the whole background behind Felia. All that's really happened with her is that she's shown to have characteristics associated with autistic people, and that she has psychic powers. Cool and all, but why the do villains want her so damn badly? What was life like back on her home planet? Is there any reason why she has limited vocabulary?

And sure, you may say it'll probably be explained later, but the first third is where they should've put this information, not half way through like I'm expecting, if they decide to bother that is. In my opinion, this would've been BETTER as a slice of life comedy, it would not have been special, but it'd at least entertain me the whole way through.

(Though I do have to say the neckbeard posters getting triggered at dancing vegetables makes me laugh)

Animation was decent but nothing special and Felia is still cute af.
I personally liked the Disney-type CG animated floating dancing vegetables.
Phew I never thought I would ever say this sentence!

So is anyone able to tell me what this is?

Is it a boy with a femine face and hair and really trained packs? Is it a girl with a very maskuline voice and body? We´ll never know

Well, nothing interesting happened during the first half, unlike the second half. Still enjoyed it nonetheless, just hope they won't waste too much time on it again in future episodes - that nothing happened. Still enjoyed this episode. But look at all that hate though, lol. Maybe this episode's the worst so far, but hating a show for just that feels out of place somehow. Lol.

Man the writing is entertaining by now in its completely disjointed toddler-level coincidence, happenstance and unintentional non-sequitor.

Now it feels more like a kids' show. I'll treat it as one and keep watching, because I had some good laughs this episode.

Kids ignoring Do Mon's story -> rude much?

Do Mon was never intending to fix the roof until the typhoon, lol

Random camera in a scarecrow

"We connected to a camera pointed directly at what we're looking for, but we're too stupid to pinpoint its location!"

Psychotic murderer calling a pedo "creepy". I guess, lol

"Quick, let's think of a way to disable Felia's powers and separate her from Moura in time for the bad guys to appear."
"Let's... Give her a temper tantrum and attach a piece of Moura to her to passively cancel her power?"
"But have we ever explained how any of this shit works?"
"Okay let's start thinking about episode 5"
*throws dart at storyboard randomizer*

This writing is comedy gold, it's so bad that it's good. And I've never used that term about an anime since Another.

THIS is what a guilty pleasure looks like!

The salt is real in here. She's a child, what do you expect her to do with her magic powers? Raise the dead?

It seems Felia can sense danger, hence why she asked Sogo to stay. Felia and Chamon are clearly intertwined, yet people are finding a way to complain about it like it's some forced thing. It's not, no matter how you twist it.

I don't quite understand why people are coming in here expecting some realistic thing. It's under fantasy, and is about a little girl found in a crystal. And a little rock that turns into a robot. I'm not exactly sure what kind of expectations you had, but clearly you had the wrong ones. This show does have a few problems like story progression and pace, but the end of this episode marked a turn in the story. The complaints would be legitimate if they were still screwing around at episode 5.

Patience is obviously required for this show, but who has patience for a story when you just want your instant gratification with giant robots punching each other until one explodes?

I agree with this, I don't find the characters relatable or even interesting at all. They've been quite one dimensional, imo, there's simply no depth to them so far. No depth within first 2 episodes out of 12, okay, I understand. None within 4 is alarming, it's a third way through the season already. I don't consider these last two episodes to be characterization episodes.

I've probably said this before, but I like SoL moments, even in anime that has a plot, but the SoL moments must be significant in some way, and these weren't. Gargantia was sort of like this, with slice of life episodes for the most of the series, and they were really good since the content was also for worldbuilding, there were interesting interactions between characters, and relationships growing. But Comet Lucifer does almost none of that, the slice of life moments we saw in this episode is almost no different from the previous two, the same character interactions and learning nothing new of the world. I don't mean by anything drastically changing in the characters or the interactions between them, but this isn't a true slice of life, so I hold it accountable for better usage of its time, meaning something should change; we should learn something about them or the characters should be learning something. There's been other reoccurring characters like the antagonists, at the very least, we could've learned something about them.

Also, people saying that this is an anime for kids, I would disagree. Brave Beats is a children's anime running this season and so far it's been far more entertaining than this, despite being more absurd in the eyes of older audiences. I bet kids would have a better time watching BB than Comet Lucifer.

This show has been totally mis-advertised. It seems more like a slice of life with some fantasy elements. Where the fuck is the adventure part and what happened with the unique visuals the first advert showed. I mean dancing vegetables, fixing roofs and mechas is not what i signed up for. This show seems to be designed for families with children under the age of 10. The biggest annoyance is the main girl is essentially a big toddler. Also laughable villians who destroy pot plants, lol. Crap episode

agree with you
i just will finish this anime because i dont want to have a big drop list in my MAL
