well, most likely the same with P4A

just + Marie, and different type of Yu, and of course, "Imbalance" Izanagi, Yu was just overconfidence like he already meet shadows everyday, and Izanagi is just too powerful, so it's weird if it's not NG+

The pacing is so damn fast but I like it. Izanagi sure is OP, this is definitely a New Game + adaptation.

Will stay watching this just for Marie.

Dat Izanagi scene was really fun to watch. High level Zio spells for the win.

I enjoyed this, but mostly because I enjoyed the fanservice from the game. I really liked how they used the same music, and many of the scenes/dialogue are the exact same as the game. It's pretty clear what this anime is trying to do, targeting an audience that has either 1) Already watched P3Animation 2) Played P4G already or 3)Did both 1+2. So like other posters said before me, the anime will possibly gloss over stuff that has been covered in P4Animation, and stick to focusing on Golden exclusive stuff.

I guess the only thing we're really missing is more dialouge to make you feel more connected to the characters. I feel like this anime won't really cut it for people who haven't either scene the previous anime or played any rendition of the game. They would likely not enjoy the feeling of things being rushed or glossed over, but I guess like I said before producers are banking on the target audience of people who already experienced P4 to watch this and appreciate it as fanservice for a game they thoroughly enjoyed.

I don't wanna sound like a source purist but I do like the game opening a bit better, with all the dancing and shit haha. But at least they still used same music and stuff.

I want to re-iterate though, IF YOU HAVE NOT EITHER SEEN P4A OR PLAYED P4 , you'll probably not enjoy this anime. You should do either one of those before approaching this material I think...

The way I see it, it was really strange at first.
Yu was acting more active than his usual passive self and the characters don't really get familiar with each other at all. They just skip that step.
BUT if you see it as NG+ it makes sense since Yu has more personality (it carries over) and the series is only 12 episodes long. However, they make an effort to let us get to know Marie so it isn't that bad if you see it this way.
Not sure how different golden is from the original but it'd also be lame if it were exactly the same in dialogue as the original series.
ALSO TSUNDERE MARIE FTW

I think it's a normal decision to put this in 12 episodes. I mean, Golden is intended to cover additional scenes and characters, so for those who haven't watched the anime, I recommend not watching this.

Similar to Mekakucity Actors, P4GA is an extension to Persona 4 franchise. Those who want to watch this, please watch the original anime first or play the game first.

I thought it was pretty bad. I understand the need to have faster pacing because it's only 12 episodes, but does that mean they need to change the source material...?

Why are they chasing some girl at the beginning of going in the TV?
And if they need to speed things up because of the number of episodes, why am I sitting here watching the protagonist fight a billion shadows? That never happens anywhere, so why eat up time with it? If you want to speed things up, have him start with fighting Yousuke's shadow instead of these stupid trash mob shadows.

Also I feel they are playing the, er, "airheaded" protagonist a little too hard around this time. In the original series he was pretty normal, especially in the start, and had funny moments. This time around it just seems like he is autistic or something.

I think it would've been better if they had just focused on doing the new content in Golden, rather than rerush through and change the content from the game and original series.

Well I thought it was rushed and glossed over so much, but this is just to tell Marie's Story and cramming it into 12 episodes. Still I think it would have been fine to have 24 episodes because Golden added quite bit to the story other than Marie.

How exactly are they gonna do that if they don't re-establish the setting of the story? Personally i think going the NG+ route was the only option they had to introduce Marie as a character (who is now considered canon in the Persona video game series). The reason they're bothering with all of this is because her character is introduced at the very beginning of the game. As such they can't just cut those scenes out. Yu's new personality is part of the whole NG+ thing where all his stats are maxed. Trolling the people who finished the game really.

If they want to make a whole NG+ series, then it shouldn't be 12 episodes long.
If it's going to be 12 episodes long, then they should really just stick to the new stuff only.
Who is this anime for? If you are someone who has never played or watched Persona 4, then this show isn't for you, you aren't going to know what the hell is going on.
If you are someone who has already played through Persona 4 or watched it, then you don't need to rewatch the same story beats again just shorter, you already know what happens.

They could have had Persona 4 start, Yuu gets off the train, meets Marie and his family etc. Then do the calender thing so you know they are skipping stuff that has already been shown, and just keep showing new bits only. Or they could just montage stuff that happened or whatever. You can say they need to re-establish it blah blah blah but they are obviously skipping plenty of story stuff any way if Kanji is in the next episode, so why not just go whole hog on it?

And this is not an NG+ personality come on now. He was acting like a total retard with his hand in the TV, that's not an NG+ choice in the game or anything. This is more of a "well, the silly version of the protag seemed to be a hit in the first series, let's take it even farther".

People who are crying because the pacing is rushed are idiots, This anime is for people who have seen the first anime and/or played the games, They don't need to waste time re-visiting the plot and building Yu up again, Its NG+ and the anime is button mashing all the text boxes because it has been through this before. I think they did this perfectly since it perfectly reflects a NG+ version WHICH IT SHOULD, This way we can get to the new stuff quicker and the pace will go become normal when we get there so stop whining.

I'm loving the semi-smug Yu with his been here done that attitude and since I haven't played the Persona 4 Gold version I don't know what will happen with Marie or what she is about and because of that I'm excited to see something new.

I imagine that if Klingon warriors told battle stories about their first battles in JRPGs, it would be exaggerated from "I just pressed attack twice, since it was an easy battle to get me used to the interface" into "the swarm of enemies was thick enough to block out the sun -- not that there was any natural light in the valley of shadows and mist....", and it would look totally like the epic battle against a bahmillion shadows.

Like, what the actual freakazoid?

Anyhow, I enjoyed it and I am glad the game is not that hard.

If this first battle is this epic, I wonder what they will do for the rest.....

Assuming you haven't played the game, yes, as mentioned in the episode, they bring her to the velvet room and you, Yu, can interact with her there. She's only featured in the Golden edition of the game, which is for the Ps Vita. She has extra content which can be unlocked by maxing her social link, a feature in the game, which the anime already did because of the scene they gave us with her looking over the town, which isn't something you can unlock in 1-3 in game days.

I'm sure that people here have covered how the anime (or episode) felt too fast paced, so I'll avoid to mention it. Though it's been a while since I played P4G and while my expectations of the anime was mediocre at best, it feels like certain events in this episode did not reflect correctly to the game. I'm not even sure if this is NG+ or not. I'll just see where the anime takes me for now.

On another note, I'm happy to see more P4 stuff including the theme songs and soundtracks. They also improved the animation quality from the original P4 animation which is great. I was hoping to see the same animation quality as the cutscenes from the P4G game, but that would probably be too much to ask for.
Marie is just as sweet as I remember her being; except for the bonus tsuntsun from Kana Hanazawa which was a pleasant surprise.

Guess it's time to play the game again and not miss crucial dates for achievements, argh.

DO NOT WATCH THIS VERSION IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE ORIGINAL ANIME OR AT LEAST PLAYED THE GAME!

Persona 4: The Golden Animation makes me feel like I am watching a NG+! The animation is much more enhanced than the first time around, the songs come from the game, and Yu is a hella stronger than he was in the first showing!

I'm enjoying it so far, but it is weird seeing how fast paced it is moving. Definitely going to continue watching and see what direction they take with adding Marie into the mix.

Every time I see Marie dressed the way she is I think of Prinny Girl!
So glad that I'm not a huge manga reader, because the manga readers WHINE WAY TOO MUCH and have to RUIN every adapted anime for the ANIME ONLY WATCHERS!

This is definitely a NG+ adaptation. It's evident with that OP Izanagi and quirky personality of Yu. I must say that the first adaptation should have had this much production value or more. Kinda disappointed thinking about that.

I like how to script works; it's like we're smashing the x button to reach the new stuff real quick. At the end of the day though, this adaptation is definitely for players or people who watched the first adaptation.

And great... Yu sang the Junes song :3

NG+ Yu is going to make this hilarious until he inevitably has to struggle against certain boss battles in order to create drama and suspense.

I haven't played Golden, nor do I plan to after playing the original and not owning a Vita, so I have no issue with the quickened pace to get to the Golden material.

I still wished an Arena adaptation was done instead. It would've tied in nicely with the Ultimax release.

It's the first episode and Yuu has already power level lol

Killing that many shadows should be enough to make him jump straight to level 99.

I was wondering how they're going to fit this in 12 episodes, seems like they just combined events and move things more quickly. It didn't feel that rushed for me although it'll probably be apparent in future episodes.

The animation and art are definitely superior to the original P4 anime and I'm glad they use songs from the game.

Not a sequel but rather a quick recap of the first series along with the new material that was added in Persona 4 Golden. The new material filled in some things in the existing story and added an epilogue. The Persona 4 story continues in Persona 4 Arena for the PS3 and 360.

I like that they're moving on to the new content quickly while skimming over the broad strokes and key elements.

It is NOT supposed to be watched on itself. It is an extension of the first Anime, and adds more elements and context to the characters and setting. If you're going into this without having watched the first anime, or played the original game, you're doing yourself a disservice and are, quite frankly, doing it wrong.

As for the pacing and power levels.... Definitely New Game+. Narukami was very actively involving himself in events, rather than being a bit of a drifter.
He makes a few different decisions from the first series, which is cool and pretty much represents the player/audience's desire to take a few different turns on the next run.

Similarly, the scene-skipping and "awful pacing" is also comparable with the way a player who has already finished those sections doesn't necessarily want to read through them again. It still introduces the characters by giving the fundamentals (Chie's love for meat, Yukiko's family business...).

Those scenes are more meant to refresh the audience's memory, rather than giving a fully-rounded plot. Again, this is an extension of the original, not a stand-alone adaption.

This is especially apparent by how they spent the last 5 minutes (after the ending) with Golden content / Marie, without rushing things at all. They deliver what the audience would want to watch this for, being the new characters and content, not the rehash.

As such, I am enjoying it, and can appreciate the concept.

I never played the game (mostly because I don't really know where to buy it - the only Atlus game I have is Catherine, and I had to order that from Italy, and the only consoles I have are PS1-3) and I don't think the storyline has that much rewatch quality, but I'm not gonna drop it. I was sort of interested in Marie but now I'm not - my first impression was bad. I'm really not a fan of this sort of tsundere archetype. Eh, I guess it was worth getting to hear their Japanese voices though (I watched the first one dubbed) but now I'm mostly just staying for a chance to see shadow Kanji in better animation quality. Y'know, for uh... reasons.
