Now this is a kill that didnt look pointless. It showed how strong the royal guards actually are. Difficult to think they will be beaten without a trick or weakness.
If you enjoyed the time you wasted, then its not a waste of time.

I'm gonna be honest. After all the praise and acclaim I've heard the Chimera Ant Arc receive over the years, my expectations were through the heavens. Unfortunately, and I may be inviting a ton of backlash, but up until this episode, this arc has been a real drag. Less than ideal pacing, minimal animation, boring dialogue, lack of interesting new characters. Hey, I think the concept and premise is great. I was initially very intrigued. But most of this arc has reminded me of some of One Piece's lowest moments. I really miss the mind games and mental wars and strategizing found in the prior arcs. Right now, it's mainly drawn out fight scenes and evil chimeras spouting the same thing over again. I'm also a bit disappointed that, seemingly, one of the most powerful antagonists we're introduced to was able to achieve God levels of Nen and the intellect of a genius within weeks of sentience. The cat thing was literally just born, and they're already seemingly undefeatable. Also, I just knew Kite would meet tragedy immediately after handing Gon Ging's card—painfully predictable. A sweet moment nonetheless.

However, with all that exposition out of the way, I mainly came here to say that this has been the MOST compelling one since Gon/Killua first met Kite. Something in particular about this episode kept my attention like the others hadn't. So I'm really hoping the arc goes up uphill from here.

The perspective on how strong the chimera ants is does get a bit warped by the pacing at the start of the arc but the show really sells how unbelievably strong Neferpitou is. The regular ants can get killed by guns but also survive Gon's nen punch to the chest somehow but also a captain can just utterly overwhelm Pokkle's nen attack for no reason while Gon and Killua manhandle the others without trying that hard. But Neferpitou decapitating Kite without seemingly breaking much of a sweat is insane and immediately sets the tone for how strong she is.

That was heartbreaking to see Gons enthusiasm and how Killua reacted to the (gay) light in his life. Just to go forward and see the harrowing truth. This can only end one way. Badly.

Great storyboarding this episode.
Well fuck ... Kite's actually dead ... so much for Gon's positive outlook.
Killua's got an amazing friend in Gon, cheering him up at his lowest point.

Pitou is insanely strong, it's great to see the big guns coming in but I feel the overconfidence could be their downfall.
Kite was supposed to be one of the greatest and Pitou barely breaking a sweat decapitating Kite does not bode well.

Seems like Netero's put up a mission for the boys to undertake to maybe teach them even more whilst they recover and come back later.

I don't know what to say. Already felt that someone would die but honestly still felt unprepared and even shaken after knowing Kite was the one who died. I mean, after Killua said that they always meet the right people at the right time, like Wing, Bisky, Razor... none of them died. So I was a bit skeptical even though the moment Kite gave Ging's hunter license to Gon was a sign... T___T

Oh Neferpitou... you've destroyed Gon's pure soul... be prepared for the hell that will come to you. (and I'm super looking forward to seeing that)
