Her death should have felt more impactful, but it totally fell flat. The only deaths in this arc that have made me feel the slightest emotion were the Hanami and Mechamaru deaths, and that was mostly because of how surprised I was that season one characters were being killed that soon into this arc. This may be a side effect of a story with too many characters that also spends too little time developing them. Nobara, despite how much she is featured and associated with Megumi, Itadori, and Gojo in promotional materials and the opening and ending credits, had about as much character development as the panda. It's the same issue with Nanami. Did I like the battle scenes I saw Nanami and Nobara in? Sure, but were those scenes enough to get me to care about their deaths? No.

I'm trying to think... Is there any character in this show whose death would upset me? And I'm drawing a blank.

I appreciated the Nobara backstory. It was a nice change of pace from another long drawn out battle scene. I was expecting the Saori stuff to end up with some curse related plot point when the appearance of her home started to change followed by her abrupt departure, but it just ended up being some banal story about friends drifting apart. It was good given the contrast between their lives in the future. Saori is stuck at her office job while Nobara suffers a gruesome death. That was neat.

I am an anime only watcher and have no plans to read manga so this is my first experience with the story as it unfolds in the anime. I think this one is genuinely the episode where I finally lost my patience with Yuji. How are you going to make so many tall claims about killing this and that and literally beat one of the top villains with bare fists hardly using cursed fists, is brute forcing supposed to do something to Mahito or what? Giving opening to an enemy as dangerous as Mahito is just frustrating to watch. As much as I had no interest in Nobara, I really commend what an amazing opening she created for Yuji. Alas it was wasted because she still got killed, which is not the point, but makes me wonder how differently the scene would have played out if someone else with a better cursed technique was there when the opening was made. It seems everyone is just fodder at this point for Yuji’s nervous break down for super Saiyan power up (I would have assumed Sukuna’s destruction was enough catalyst for that). I can’t even be bothered enough to be invested in any character except Sukuna at this point, clearly he is the star of the show and everyone else is either dispensable or hilariously outmatched for now. Compared to Toji vs gojo+Geto and Yuta vs geto stories, I find this current plot fairly lacking.

why am i still here only to suffer? i knew nobara would die (spoiled by manga readers) but still it felt kinda sad. i still had hopes that maybe she somehow survived when she didn't immediately explode after being touched but then they started showing her backstory which just solidified that she's indeed dead.

itadori's gonna fucking EXPLODE now. i can't even imagine how tf he's gonna handle himself. two people he was so close to just died in front of him while he couldn't do anything and both of them killed by the same person. idk how itadori is gonna do it but mahito is beyond fucked now. i hope he rips mahito apart limb to limb.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.

Nobara missed the part where Mahito swapped with his double.
RIP Nobara, you managed to used "resonance" which is effective against Mahito.

Mahito's premise was always clear, he is a curse and likes to kill for the sake of killing, but few characters like him have the ability to make me want to see him die to the point of begging to be killed.

A lot of people are complaining about the flashbacks but honestly I think it did a great job for the effect this episode wanted. We have a lot of backstory that’s left unresolved for Nobara and we’re watching take what we think could be a fatal blow. The flashback builds her character background up further, showing how she grew up, her childhood friends, and even more depth into her relationship with Saori. When the flashbacks start, we all assume this is the real death flag because what shonen doesn’t queue a flashback before killing someone.

For me, getting to see all the more reasons to love Nobara as a character while realizing this is it was genius. I just sat at the tv watching with others, silent, because I wanted to act like we weren’t about to watch her head explode while getting more invested. It all ending with us finally catching up to where Saori is and seeing a rather disappointing outlook on her current life just added a crushing conclusion to Nobara’s backstory. Not only is her friend still at a low spot in her life, but now we also think they’ll never be reunited.

I guess I’d describe the feeling of this episode as the moment when you’re suspended at the peak of a roller coaster, terrified because you know exactly what’s going to happen and just have to stare at it. For me, this was incredible.

Kugisaki should just listen to papa Nanami smh. What a bad girl. Now he joins him visiting Kuantan, dancing forever after. She got her dream comes true tho. Forget about the hole at half of your head, Kugisaki. Its still looks good on yah. So well, if that's what's this about then, life's indeed is not bad at all...

I feel like they did a nicely done job here portray Mahito shittiness. Now time to the real revenge, Yuuji boy. Cause your besto friendo will arrive and give a very healthy boost for you. A very in-needed moral effect, till the end of this incident.

This arc is absolutely insane.

And now that it actually happened we can post without a spoiler tag that the opening foreshadowed it all along

This felt a lot more devastating than in the manga. You can't stress it enough how much the right seiyuu and OST sqeeze your heart.
@FMmatron these types of foreshadows are GREAT and add more power to the openings, they do not spoil anything big, and you could have never understood what actually happened, but still they create hype towards the moment where you will recognize that scene from the OP.

@Jagara
The thing is that there is no super saiyan power up for Itadori in this show. The destruction of unknown people of course isn't going to break him completely. Then Nanami's death happened and he felt so enraged with Mahito because he couldn't believe all of this was happening, shouted and charged at him with all his might, but he tried to calm himself saying Nanami would do the same. But now with Nobara's "death" he doesn't feel rage anymore, it is too much for even him, a mentally strong person, he has just fallen in despair and is completely broken down, unable to do anything. All of this was necessary.

Another one.

Creepy as fuck to celebrate someones first period, is that information your parents would talk about with others even?

Even if the entire village wasn't insane and retarded a substantial bunch were it seems, also those kids.

Seemed like she froze up which is weird as fuck as she's a combatant.

It could've went in a way where she had learned something previously against the technique but no, its was a massive death flag.

The manga has lot more to come. As one of the main character,‌‌‌ it's doubtful that she dies early. I doubt her death. Nobara shouldn't be dead by now. It looks far from over. (And yes, I've read manga to the updated chapter)

Christ, this show is on a roll with killing off the characters that we know and like. Last week was Nanami's last stand and for this episode, it was Nobara's turn to hit the buffers. =(

Her backstory of what she was like when she was younger was cute, also showcasing how weird the village she grew up in was, which I can't blame her for wanting to get out of as soon as she could. Her chemistry with Fumi during that time was wholesome, as was the bond that they had with Saori, whose reminiscence about it during the present day only made Nobara's death more depressing. Poor Yuji can't avoid the constant trauma, so I see this fueling him to avenge Nobara in his ongoing fight against Mahito.

Speaking of which, the production values of the episode itself was very good. Not only were the fight scenes more pleasing to look at compared to the inconsistency of the previous episode, but that production quality stayed strong during Nobara's backstory segment, too.

All I want now is for Yuji to kill off Mahito, which the sooner, the better. It's a big ask considering how strong Mahito is, but that's what I want to see happen in the next episode.

Every fight in this season of JJK has an overuse of slow motion effects. The amazing sound design hides this as you are distracted by the background music and voice acting, but if you watch the episodes on mute and just judge the animation, the fights are FULL of slow motion effects. Apart from the two stickman animation style episodes, all the fights have slow motion scenes. Maybe it's Goshozono's style to add slow motion effects, but in my opinion it becomes cheap when it's spammed like this.

When it's done right, it can create great moments like in episode 17 of S1 when the slow motion happened after Mai fired that bullet. That scene is one of my favorites in the series, and I know it was directed by Goshozono, but since he's been directing this whole season, he's been spamming that slow motion effect into every fight non-stop, which has made every fight lame and boring to watch. The sound design carries the fights, as I said. Watch it on mute and you'll clearly see the spam of the slow motion effect. Again, apart from the two recent stickman animation style episodes. Those don't count because they were meant to be different.

I think Goshozono should have just stayed as an episode director/storyboard artist. He can't run a series as a director because we've seen so many complaints and carnage from this season that the fanboys are blaming on MAPPA CEO for some reason instead of Goshozono, and seeing his slow motion effect style on all the fights has made every fight boring to watch.

I didn't know Mahito was built like this lol. Him and Jogo upgraded big time from season 1.

As for the death, I know I should feel sadder but... We didn't see Nobara at all this season and then the moment she finally gets her moment to shine, she dies? To make matters worse, we just get a 5 minute + backstory slapped in there and it feels way too jarring. I'm just shocked is all. No Shounen series apart from CSM takes these many liberties with killing off characters. No one is safe and I kinda like it. Just don't overdo it or we'll have another CSM part 2 situation.

Mixed feelings about this episode but I'm ready for whatever chaos ensues in the next.

@SouthRzVa it's not for the audience, but actually for Itadori development. Next eps should open your eyes about this.. but yeah man, it's kinda a waste that Nobara died here. ๐Ÿ˜•
@Akihara_Jim But it's already like the third time the author kills someone in front of Itadori for "development" purposes. I'm pretty sure there are better ways to develop your MC than killing off potentially good characters D:
Or at least get rid of Nobara after she receives the same amount of screen-time as the other two protagonists. I don't know.

great episode but they fumbled a little by censoring nobara's face. The scene was clearly intended for shock value, censoring it just made it pointless. And honestly the thing about her death is it barely made me feel anything. A combination of limited screen time, lack of impact, shallow relationship with the other casts, little development...among other things... culminated in a few of us not caring all that much. Also what a weak ah backstory that served little purpose but to waste time on more important things smh

but aside from that seeing yuji put hands on mahito was entertaining. I believe their conflict will conclude in either next episode or the one after. I'm no manga reader, but based on pacing I feel like the climax is approaching. We still need to see what became of imposter geto and mei mei's conflict. Fully expecting her to get rekt but we'll see

4/5 episode

Another pretty good episode, it was mostly a flashback episode but that's ok, I like flashbacks if they are done properly and this flashback wasn't so bad, and that patch face guy is unpredictable as hell, that's what makes him dangerous, he escaped just to fool the good guys and he succeeded, damn you!

And... Nobara... you better be alive and I will have a NO for an answer, you hear me? we already lost Nanami in the previous episode, we can't lose you now, it's too soon and my kokoro isn't ready, the way she "supposedly" died wasn't THAT brutal so maybe she's still alive, I really hope she is.

And lastly, I have complained about things I dislike about this season but I must admit, this is a pretty darn good season and it will be even better in the BD when they remove the ghosting & dimming bullshitery. And Nobara... you better be alive!
