on a triplepost note, I wish there was a user script in which you could give certain tags to users that show their forum posts in different colors. It could work as a substitute for the ignore list by just making their posts have a black background where you can't read the black test, plus I could make posts by people I like stand out in yellow or green or whatever. And ofc I could have other fun categories to judge people by, like pink for weebs who glorify japan and hate the west. Would make the forum experience more colorful for sure.
I probably regret this post by now.

I get that some people get hard from modding the game, but I personally see no appeal in that as the mod stories are always poor and the world uninspired, and I play RPGs primarily for the story. I'm not looking for a sandbox to fuck around with but rather an experience I can immerse myself into. And Skyrim fails at it

In that sense, The Witcher 3 is the far better RPG of this decade and deserves the reception it has gotten, hopefully to encourage more RPG developers to create something like it
I get that if you're looking for a rich story, TES games aren't for you since they're very much a mile wide and an inch deep in that regard. However I totally disagree that they aren't immersive, outside of a few places you're given basically complete control of how you want to play and who your character is meant to be. It kinda reminds me of a digital version of a tabletop RPG in that respect, which is not surprising as you can clearly see elements of the mechanics are influenced by these RPGs.

When viewed from this lens I feel like the series holds up pretty well and is why I've sunk hundreds of hours into the series and I still feel like coming back from time to time as I get new ideas on how to approach playing the game.

I mean Elder Scrolls games are one of the more expansive games out there, as far as I know.

Skyrim is more like a DnD than a Final Fantasy, where you're given a lot of choices how to act and where to go and it depends on you on how you'll go at it. Western RPGs are more into the "creating your own story and character" , anyway, with the more popular WRPGs being stuff like Gothic, Fallout, Might and Magic, TES, etc. which have this type of game design. You barely see something like that in JRPGs, even with western-inspired stuff like Dragon's Dogma and Dark Souls. Which is why I welcome them with open arms.

I've only played Oblivion and I didn't finish Skyrim, but they managed to keep me interested even without mods. I tend to not mod a game until I get a taste of it, and I didn't even manage to mod Skyrim until my HDD fucked up lmao

btw Dragon's Dogma still has my favorite combat in all the open-world RPGs I played (granted I haven't played that much, but I highly doubt many can beat it) with climbing monsters, fast paced combat, and large spells that you'll feel like Ainz Ooal Gown. It also helps that you can change classes and weapons so easily that it makes it really easy to experiment and have fun with other types of gameplay.

It suffers somewhat from having little boss variety in the overworld but the 2 hardest dungeons is pretty darn varied and great enough.
You can also light yourself on fire, something I've always wanted to do.

this game is criminally out of the radar for some reason.

Almost caught up with Real and it's easily one of the best manga I've ever read. Such an inspirational story from an author with a knack for creating characters that are just impossible to dislike. I can't believe I put this off for so long.

And I made it to the last cour of Utena, apparently this is where the show earns a lot of it's acclaim so it should be funner than it already has been

I mean there was 5 and a half years between Oblivion and Skyrim, so I thought Skyrim was pretty fresh given that I'd already sunk all the time I was going to put into Oblivion years before it came out. Oblivion is definitely my favorite of the series since its the most balanced as far as the RPG mechanics go, Morrowind is really clunky and Skyrim stripped things down a little too much. Morrowind is the clear winner as far as settings, writing and lore goes though, although Shivering Isles kinda captured the same feeling. Idk its a franchise I've been invested in for 15 years now and I still come back to it from time to time and am certainly excited for more in the future.

Fuck, Hawking died? That actually makes me sad. The guy is a literal legend and someone that sacrificed a whole fucking lot just to know about the universe. Now I have more of a reason to read The Grand Design which I have here just waiting for me to read for like a year now.

Man, that really sucks. Someone important to internet culture and someone important to scientific culture dying in rather close proximity to each other, and both of those things I'm rather fond of.
RIP

I'm playing through 1 again and even on Normal it's much harder than DMC3 and 4 on any difficulty. Kamiya is a fucking sadist. That being said it makes every victory feel earned and that fact that you have to survive by being creative with the environment is something that I wish stuck with the later entries.

Mouretsu was a pretty decent ride. The main character was definitely the spotlight in the series.

I hate it when a series ends when it finally gets good and the meat of the plot begins, tho. The final arc was the best one imo and it ended there after all the implications of what will happen next >.>

I'm watching different game reviews of DDD:A for some reason and I'm surprised how many people don't get the plot behind it lmao
and these are the same people that praise Dark Souls' way of storytelling, which Dragon's Dogma has the same type. It only isn't as popular and therefore less people talk about it and make yt videos about it.
It's fairly easier to grasp than Dark Souls' but for some reason less people get it. Stop watching yt lore videos to spoonfeed your experience, pls.

Wew that Violet Evergarden episode. No mercy.
Still not entirely sure if I care too much about this format of episodic stuff though, the episodes aren't bad for sure but I guess Violet herself limits things a bit with what the show is aiming for. Feels a bit weird I guess, it's like I enjoy the episodes but the show itself needs a bit more.

Kumo is nice too but it's like, it's just filler you know, it's not bad, not good, not particularly entertaining but not completely boring either. At least the manga anyway. The mangaka does seem to have a lot of imagination though and a lot of random stuff is really well illustrated and actually good from the perspective of how they make you picture some things, and I doubt the novel gave as much vivid imagery as the manga does, so props to the artist for actually being dedicated to an adaptation I guess.
