Cute little series this was, very surprised by how well it turned out to be. Really glad that it didn't overstay its welcome and both the anime and the manga are short in length.Relying on just one on-going joke (*coughOPM) for a longer time would have been a mistake. |

I was pleasantly surprised this series turned out to be as entertaining as it was. The creators did a great job creating more and more situations for Sakamoto to impress everyone with his swagger without it getting too repetitive and boring. |

AmejiHunter said: So I guess I can write freely here, since you pretty much have watched all the anime if you're here? There's this theory going on among the manga readers in which Sakamoto is DYING. And that is why he is ''leaving'' or whatever, according to the manga. I find it extremely interesting, as it makes a lot of sense. Because I am a lazy person, I decided to copy/paste some of the comments I've seen on the last manga chapter or under this episode on some websites : In case it's not clear to some people, Sakamoto is dying. That's the rumor the teachers confirm, why his classmates were all so sad, and ties in with his only regret being not having counted all the holes in the infirmary/hospital ceiling (meaning he'd been there a lot for treatment). Also why he, as a freshman, was allowed to be speaker for senior graduation. The manga makes it a bit more clear, and at kiss manga there's a better comment than mine explaining and confirming Sakamoto's illness. And those pies! If you notice everyone's tears were covered up by a pie in the face. To show strength like Sakamoto always had. Then at the 21:33 mark, we see for the first time Sakamoto show emotion. It's a quick shot so you might need to pause, but it's really sad. Right after that you see him exiting with a pie on his face because he, like the others, began to cry. Sakamoto lived his last year of life to its fullest! Such a tragic, beautiful story! ; ; In the manga he kind of makes up an excuse (going to Mars for a project, though this is not actually possible at present time). Also there are some hints in the structure of the chapters (the cover page pictures him in a school locker and it kind of looks like he's a corpse in a casket); and when Hayabusa asks him if he's going for real to Mars he answers: "who knows?" implying the possibility he's told lies through all the chapter to not make other students suffer. Also if you read it you'll notice an eerie sadness in his face. There's definitely something going wrong in his life that can't be approached with his usual style, though he's always the best to hide his pain in front of others. To make you feel worse, Sakamoto is actually dying and wanted to hide it from everyone else, im too sleepy to explain but the Opera song he sang in episode 9 was about a man, his son and the god of death, the son is very ill and his father is riding on his horse trying to get him to the doctor's village or something and on the way the son starts seeing the god of death and wants to play with him...etc by the time the father reaches the village his son had already died, plus in the final chapter sakamoto is laying back in a locker as if it were his Casket. Some people who've already read the manga (me included) have another theory: he's dying. I'd also like to add, since I don't remember seeing that particular point in those other comments, in the last chapter, Shou/Hayabusa asks Sakamoto ''Don't you have any regrets?'' and Sakamoto answers, word for word : ''If I were to have one... It would be not knowing... The exact number of holes in the infirmary's ceiling... I suppose'' Which pretty much means he has been spending a LOT of time in the infirmary doing just that, counting the number of holes in the ceiling, and probably not because he wanted to. AAAAAND at chapter 22, or the snowball fight, basically, which is episode 11, you can see Kubota and Sakamoto talking at the beginning. Then Kubota adds, in his thoughts : ''Yes, from now on too... I can walk the same path as Sakamoto-kun. That time, I still... Belived it.'' Plus him saying what he says there : http://www.mangareader.net/sakamoto-desu-ga/24/41 with the ''rumor'' spreading about Sakamoto, which the teachers confirmed... Yea you guessed it, I believe. ANYWAYS! I don't know if that actually interested someone. Just wanted to bring some info in here. When I finished the anime I felt really sad-- it got really emotional, seemingly TOO emotional and I couldn't help wonder why he lied about going to America. I got suspicious and went to some forums online and yeah, wow... mind blown. This theory and last episode really totally changed my impression of the anime. Live each day to the fullest. Have fun. What was.the point of him dying anyway ? What does it add to the anime ? Shock value ? He could leave the school and his friends ends up being sad too , no need for him to be dying . Anyway the comedy in the last 4 episodes was lacking , and yes oviously he is dying ,my problem is that , it adds nothing , the show was pure comedy about a dude who can run like darwin theory , there is no need for sad ending when the whole anime was about being cool cooler coolest . But i guess the MC dying in the end makes people more into it , and this is probably what the mangaka wanted . Or simply he wrote the manga based on one of his/her friend who died by a disease by the same name , and somehow the manga is a celebration of that friend's final days in life . |

I didn't really know about them Sakamoto theories until now. However it seemed odd at first for Sakamoto to give the farewell address to the seniors. Upon reading the theory it makes totally sense. It was a fun show in the end. A guy living life to the fullest. |

The feels are real. I didn't expect a sad ending like this one, the second part was emotional. As usual, Samamoto handled the speech and the fight perfectly together, it was very captivating. Sakamoto desu ga? is a good comedy. I laughed a lot at almost all the parts and the Opening is so great. This guy is the best in everything he does and he always helps his friends. The dying theory makes this last episode even heartbreaking, his sad face was touching T_T. |

I'm really late but just rewatched sakamoto desu ga and this is for those who have read the ending theory!! Now I'm completely convinced by the idea that there really is something more ominous going on behind the comedic and lighthearted storyline. However! Although all the hints pointing to the idea that Sakamoto is dying do make sense (in particular, his response to Hayabusa revealing that he'd spent a lot of time in the nurse's office-that line definitely seemed to strange when I didn't know about the theory), I believe Sakamoto is already dead, that he died regretting that he'd never experience high school life, and has come back as a ghost (obviously people can touch him and take photos of him but maybe he's just that kind of ghost :P) to live out his last wishes until all his regrets are gone. Here are some hints that support this theory: 1. Notice Sakamoto is never shown going home. Yes, there are times when he's seen walking on the streets (like the toilet paper kids episode) but this doesn't imply he was on his way home. Then, during the ending song we see a lot of scenes of him alone in the school at sunset long after everyone has gone home, doing things you'd do at home like boiling coffee in the science room, taking a bath in the school swimming pool, just lounging about on empty school grounds. At Japanese schools doors are locked after school hours and students lingering about are sent home by teachers/janitors. How is Sakamoto in school at such a late time then? He lives at the school. He "haunts" the school, the place associated with his regrets, where he will act out his last wishes. I thought the ending song scenes were very lonely even if you don't know about the theories. But then he's always rushing to make it to school in the mornings! Says the nonbeliever. If he lives and sleeps at school, where does he come from every morning? Well I don't know. Ask Sakamoto what he was up to all night. 2. He's never experienced snow and mixers etc. and acts like he's "from another planet" because for much of his life he was confined to his bed. Having missed out on all these experiences are all be part of his regret. 3. Hayabusa asks him in the end "You don't have any regrets?" as if to ask "You sure you're leaving? (moving on to heaven or whatever)". Plus, it's a strange question to ask a classmate if he really is just transferring. 4. If Sakamoto is a ghost, that would explain his ridiculous superhuman acts. 5. We can draw a parallel between Fukasa's long-overdue graduation and Sakamoto's leaving the school. Fukasa says he doesn't want to graduate because essentially the adult world scares him. This new world beyond school seems exhausting and difficult, so although his time (as a student) was up years ago, he clings to his current world. In the end though, Sakamoto is able to force Fukasa to move on. Likewise, Sakamoto "graduates" from this world and moves on to whatever is beyond. In fact, Sakamoto himself associates the term "graduating" to the theme of death/moving on in a larger sense, when Hayabusa says he will go stop Fukasa from his evil acts and Sakamoto stops him and jokingly says, "We can't have you graduating too." (ie. being killed/beaten up by Fukasa). |

Great ending for this series. Glad Atsushi didn't get in trouble with the school and got out of the manipulation with Sakamoto's aid. Very happy when Sakamoto defeated Fukase and prob changed him but also helped the school. At the end, he dodged all the pies and felt touched by everyone's last farewells. Too bad he didn't show them his smashed pie face and only the crew cut sensei :3 |

I would've loved if some romantic plot started between Sakamoto and Kubota. I mean clearly Kubota has some feelings for Sakamoto (at least it looks like that to me XD ) I loved the episode and especially the scene when Sakamoto gets emotional. :3 Finally we get to see his emotional side. :D Loved the entire series. It teaches us something in each of it's episode. |

The last episode is emotional. In the last part, Sakamoto throws pie on his face to cover his emotions. I know you're crying, Sakamoto. I know there's a theory that Sakamoto is dying. The pieces of evidence are convincing. But I don't want that ending. :'( And also, there's episode 13. So it's also possible that he's not dying! |

I'm gong to miss sakamoto! The ending made me super sad. Especially for his best friend. Reminded me of a friend I had who moved away. I still miss her to this day so it made me cry 😭 I wonder where he's going though. I need to know. Hope the ova clears something up. |

For the first time even Sakamoto couldn't hold his feelz ;_; I'm gonna miss him! Funny enough show, although jokes were mostly hit-or-miss, it had some problems with pacing and some "plot"-related things were just a waste of time. Thankfully, that didn't happen often enough for me to get annoyed. 7/10 Also, I just read Sakamoto-is-dying theory and now I'm completely depressed, thanks guys T_T |

I am glad Sakamoto managed to stop Acchan. Acchan was one of the first delinquents that were affected by Sakamoto to become a better person. He even wanted to study hard for his future now! In addition, Sakamoto (forcefully?) convinced Fukase to graduate and stop him from ever be a top delinquent like he used to in order to. So, yeah it's all good! OR IS IT??? Hayabusa is the only one who understands the true meaning behind Sakamoto's decision for leaving the school to work for NASA. It was a lie... Sakamoto himself even probably cried and decided to smear his face with that 'pie' to cover them. Well, there is just 1 more OVA! I just read the theories on the true meaning of Sakamoto's leaving the school. They are dark, deep and depressing. Even if it's turns out to be not true, it's still scary. Even with almost perfect skills on everything... Sakamoto can't escape death! Last Manga Chapter Cover: |

Alright, this is for you people who want to believe Sakamoto is too cool to die with a cough. I have an alternate theory as to who Sakomoto is and what is to become of him. It's something that can't be either proven wrong or right, but would be pretty cool if they wanted to play the, "Aha all your theories are wrong card" here's a new season! What if Sakomoto was an intelligence agent in training as opposed to a dying kid? This will explain why Sakamoto has an unusual asset of unconventional skills and is readily able to adapt to any environment. Think about it. Sakamoto has exceptional charismatic skills that draw people toward him, he can make people believe anything, he can get out of any sticky situation, and he has outstanding athletic abilities. Sakamoto could have been training since he was a young child, which would explain why he doesn’t have much experience with how school is run and he could be attending a high school in order to gain interpersonal skills with peers before deployment. Why then would he say he’s going to join NASA? This explains why he was going to America because as seen in the OVA/Episode 13 he seen in a news clipping in the USA, so we know he did make the trip. Why then would his only regret being not knowing the exact number of holes on the ceiling tile in the nurse’s office? There two possibilities for this I can think of. 1. It could be a Jason Borne Tredstone thing where he needs medications to maintain performance and mental stability. 2. His nurse may be a contact from the agency where he reports his progress and what he’s learned (which may explain why he’s been there a lot, but also explain why no one else in the series mentions his frequent visits and that there’s not a lot of rumors surrounding it). The fatal illness that requires him to be at the nurses a lot doesn’t make sense for the fact that his cognitive and physical capabilities are not indicative of someone with a fatal illness, there are no rumors in school surrounding him attending the nurse’s office for illness frequently, and also Why then all the death motifs and tragic hero foreshadowing? It’s true that there are scenes in the manga of him in a locker casket and the OVA episode 13 intermission titles saying I was Sakamoto, but it could be that the NASA story is a part of a fake death. It’s possible the organization (likely the CIA or Japanese PSIA) will fake his death, so that the memories of all who knew him and his records would end with him dying. This would allow for him operate without an identity. It could also be the case that the death motif was not foreshadowing physical death, but rather him never being seen again by those who know him and, in a sense, he died. Anyways, food for thought. I like to accept this as a personal head cannon and that right now Sakamoto is somewhere in North Korea or China as an undercover agent or double agent in America pretending to work for said countries. |

Seeing Sakamoto sad at the end actually surprised me, that ending turned out to be more emotional than I was expecting. I thought it was a nice fun show, an 8/10 for me. |

From the start of anime I thought that Sakomoto reminds me a character from School Rumble - Karasuma Ouji since both of them on a quite side, exceptionally talented and elegant, the only difference is Sakomoto's expression and modern shoujo appearance. And I wasn't wrong since in final one is dying and another losing his memory what technically erase him from his life in the same way. In the whole anime is more on side of absurdus and caricature than fun and such ending means only one thing - author decided to kill her MC since the whole conception is a road to nowhere. If in School Rumble (the actual comedy anime) we had great different characters and many of side-stories so even though Karasuma was important he still was is only one from many and on the other side in Sakomot's anime we got a minimum, this is how in common feels modern anime comedy genre in these days. |

I didn't expect it to end with a sad atmosphere!!! There are times that Sakamoto is likable and not.. it's funny but not. and the ending.. I didn't expect it.. I think that he is alien but others said, he was dying.. What's the legit behind the ending episode? |

After finishing the anime I'm kinda disappointed. Even though the first couple episodes followed comedic parts but later on it's became boring. Sakamoto the mordan cringe figure who never mess things up and always do things the right way better in every thing, for me he's character felt robotic not human because we do mistakes that's what makes us human. The girls love him but do any of them can live some one like sakamoto for rest of their lives? I don't wanna be someone like sakamoto. But at least it's an anime. It's a enjoyable show that I have to say (at least first 5 or 6 episodes). Final score: 6/10 |

AmejiHunter said: not gonna lie that makes way more sense than what i thought. I legit just thought he was a alien and he was going back to space lmaoSo I guess I can write freely here, since you pretty much have watched all the anime if you're here? In the manga he kind of makes up an excuse (going to Mars for a project, though this is not actually possible at present time). |

Just finished the series, and the Sakamato is dying theory doesn't hold up if you see episode 13. His classmates find a newspaper where he's in one of the photos feeding birds, and the end of the episode has him actually taking off in a rocket while (once again) pulling off the impossible. So it looks like his plans to help colonize another planet are fully underway. I like the ghost theory and it makes a lot of sense, if not for that last episode. Anyways, really enjoyed this series! It was a definite flashback to my middle/high school years in Korea. There's really not much to ponder in this series for me - it's simply an exaggerated parody of typical high school life complicated by the existence of an impossibly perfect guy, meant to be silly and entertaining and good clean fun, no more no less. Off to read the manga now c: |
