know what, 1st episode/movie had not much impact on me, but i'm enjoying this show a lot.
Kana, thanks God the author managed to change her from an overly annoying brat to the best girl. Great character devenlopment.
Aqua boi is the absolute MC, while Ruby is just an extra, that's sad for her.
I would love to discuss more about this show but sadly the topics seems to be overcrownded with braindead mangareaders spoiling stuff, but it is usual for any non-original anime.

1st “episode” should be a short film set as a prelude otherwise all those actually called short films that are essentially episode 1 for many anime should be removed from the listing and episodes count just upped one l… but they can’t really do that here or they only have “10” planned episodes which just feels underwhelming.
This was a very, very good episode. I hope we keep focusing on Aqua more, his plot thread is more interesting. Also, the dating reality show arc is finna be crazy.
Aqua displayed his skill in show business, the basic skill Ai has been using before (this will be explained later on) - and made a blast by making the finale episode of SweetToday the best out of the series by drawing out Kana's true talent. But accidently making Kana fall in love with Aqua. Of course we all know, Aqua not being a shounen character, knows that Kana has feelings for him now. It's pretty much obvious as well things are also falling in to place, as Aqua is basically collecting tools and keeping them at arms length.
We also see Shiranui Frill coming into the picture, and Aqua introducing himself and Ruby to her, also we see Minami, a gravure model who became quick friends with Ruby.
Speaking of Minami, I actually predicted who they are going to get as the voice actor and I guess I was right. As I read the manga, I felt that a best bet for the role might just be Youmiya Hina (she voiced Shinju in My Dress Up Darling, a pink-haired and well-endowed girl character). She is also currently the voice actor for Yamada in Dangers In My Heart, another well-endowed female character who is also a model. But I guess it is also cute to hear her speaking in a kansai accent. She just pulled it off naturally.
Anyway, now that Aqua and Ruby is in high school, we see Ruby being pressured after seeing her schoolmates already involved in the entertainment business. With Aqua also being recognized by Frill as a good actor, she also wants a gig for herself so now she wants to be a true idol and here now Aqua setting IchigoPro's sight on a potential recruit, Kana Arima (while he himself sets his sight on his next step, to participate in a dating reality show, LoveNow).
ngl the puddle scene wasn't as impressive as in the manga, think it created more of a better atmosphere there as opposed to this episode.
otherwise, everything else was well done. minami is very pink and we got shiranui as well. just realized how funny it is for best girl arima to bring up 'scandal', iykyk.
I like how bro is slowly becoming human again. Whilst still being focused on his goal. I wonder what will actually happen to Aqua, will he forget vengeance or actually become a murderer? He is a talented actor and manipulator I will give him that. So crybaby forget her name has now fallen in love with Aqua I am not surprised. I actually forget that this was an anime full of supermodels. Again all of these episodes so far have been a 4/5 idk they are just missing that oomph to make me wanna give it a 5/5.
Scootboi said: 1st half of episode was good.. but whats with this second half? it went from stellar to a trashy slice of life / school BLAH fest.
Dropped from a 9 to a 7.
School themes... Because they're in high school? Because that's where talent scouting for their age group starts?
Even John Wick 4 had snippets of exposition (no that's not a spoiler) sprinkled throughout the movie, and nobody watches that series for the plot. You have to have a reason for the characters to get from A to B; it's a basic necessity.
Even if I were only in it for the idol/acting portions, I like that they're dedicating some time to introducing new characters and letting them have real screen time.
It was good, but easily the most "boring" episode from Oshi No ko, like I liked it but it was mis-ish imo, hope we get Aqua x Kana and Ruby x Pink bestie, I don't like the green pretty girl at all, well its fine ig. Well now we prob gna see some Ruby and Kana's interactions, so excited for it. 3/5
this snow gets enough attention after (the admittedly excellent e1) so I've not bothered to say anything.
but I will say after that e1, I was enjoying but not blown away to nearly the same degree. this one was notably good, for whatever reason. so it's showing some hope for me to still be an excellent show, not just an excellent premiere and decent show
Me at the start of ep: idk why im still watching oshi
i mean i dunno
fundamentally like, my brain just switches off.
if it was any other anime i could have maybe liked kana/the characters a bit more, but the irony is that it just feels so lifeless to me.
also some people mentioned, but yes, there's a lot of like, monologuing and talking and stuff
is it even talking if its just monolouging
its kinda ironic since there's lots of videos talking about you know, acting and directing production, etc
on animelist the list of "showbiz" anime is pretty short, i dont recognize most of them but some of them i do
like artistically i can sorta understand, but right now the problem (ironic) is that im just not emotionally invested in the characters
its really funny though, since the entire premise of the show is being about acting itself
i have to wonder though, like.
its hard to say since it's a bit dramatized for sure, while having some real life elements
maybe there's some anime (or in this case specifically real life adaptations), but usually i dont get the feeling that people would drop.
in the first place, if something is really famous it usually doesnt(?) bomb, or at least not too badly. it's relative i guess
and/or the hardcore fanbase is just massive enough (COUGH COUGH) that people dont care(?) either way
kinda meta to say this, but while it is true/obvious that the main character is important, the thing is the main character alone cant carry the entirety.
what can be said really
i mean i dunno, i feel like the anime and specifically the animation(?) is trying too hard which just makes me (not sure how to explain)
anyway some blah the blah going on, at they very least they are acknowledging/referencing the whole ai thing. somewhat
also the events with ai must have happened like what, 10 years ago? artistic license maybe, but 10 years is a really long time
20 mins later:
maybe i already forgor the events of the earlier eps, but since aqua and ruby are the same age twins, kind of funny how ruby says onii chan even though she's like "im the mature one"
its easy to forget but my brain doesnt really register that kana is older than aqua/ruby. then again the whole reincarnation thing does throw off, at least for aqua
a bit artistic license maybe, but i wonder how realistic is having a high school with a bunch of uhm, artistes
if anything ruby has kinda regressed in her age. or maybe she's just showing her true colours
still though this "comedy" is not funny, cring
the moodwhiplash to suddenly "haha we're totally a normal high school" is so bizarre. oh well
it always makes me wonder though, like when famous people (not) get recognized in public
i know a few voice actors started when they were 18 or 17 or even younger, so they would definitely still have been going to skool at that time
its definitely kind of interesting, though you could say maybe aqua is the one obsessed, while ruby is the more normal one
not sure (and miyako was basically a background character, the director we're not sure, and the guy remains to be seen)
right now we're at like what, 4 or 5 ish named characters, but it remains to be seen how relevant they will be.
there's only so many episodes, so unless we rotate a character every ep or two there can't possibly be that many, so they cant introduce too many.
they could have tried going with just aqua and ruby (and kana) but you know, the old storytelling method, just ad dmore characters
i mean aqua isnt flawless himself, though uh
i mean im not sure if aqua or ruby is being more or less normal. i guess the point is that they're sort of a foil to each other, the "adult" and the "child"
of course just as i mention it, miyako shows up. i mean ruby needs to progres "her storyline" too, whatever that is, so its kind of awkward having two separate storylines and the story needs to keep switching between them
i do wonder if aqua and ruby will continue to be "separate" or actually
have to feel a bit sad for ruby, but maybe it'll be her time to shine soon. maybe
to be honest i never really understood the idol business. but i guess being a solo artiste must be pretty hard unless you win one of those big jackpots or
anyway ep is over, we get a mini cliffhanger. there's no guarantee kana will accept though, she hasnt really hinted at any idol aspirations so...
so far ruby and kana (or rather girls<>girls) have not really had any interaction, so maybe the anime will actually have something interesting that is not "haha aqua".
You know it says something when you "dont" want one of the mc to be on screen.
From the cover image it seems there's still one or two more characters to go, or something, I dunno. Could possibly even be a trick but what do I know.
The irony is once ruby showed up I unconsciously got a bit happier and I didnt realize until the end of the ep.
EDIT: Big irony, kana has more favorites than ruby, ai, or aqua. Gee.
That being said, so far she still seems reasonable, though well we'll see what happens next ep.
There's also the dangling thing of whatever happens next with aqua, though ruby will definitely want her side to make some progress "immediately"
Really like how Aqua's internal monologues work with the scenes. He considers himself not a good actor, and in part that is probably true. He's likely a monotone actor who can only really pull off one type of personality. What he manages well that puts him up with the top talent is how to use a scene. This was a low budget marketing production, so he ended up doing the work that should've been considered by the crew - walking through the puddles, repositioning for superior lighting/positioning, bringing out the best of his fellow actors. Good that the on-set director kept going with it, unlike the visionless idiot who was instantly asking if they should stop because they couldn't realise how chilling echoing footsteps can be.
As he said. He's bringing out the industry honed talents that Ai had refined for idol work and using them for himself.
It's going to be interesting seeing Aqua's life between work and school now. Would've been too easy for the producer to be the one he was after, but he's still managed a lead from it. I highly doubt he'll decline the chance of the information he's after, but I'm guessing they'll end up being a few classmates in that reality dating show and that some actual feelings between a few of them will make things interesting.
When Aqua commits to acting, he becomes scary and menacing.
It's like he's a manipulative puppet master controlling the strings. He really knows how to set the scene for other actors to shine.
He makes for a convincing murderous stalker. Kana Arima caught on to Aqua's brilliant acting and gave the most impressive crying face ever.
She definitely got the hots for Aqua for real.
Ruby got herself a new friend with big boobs. She will have no trouble fitting into her class.
Can't wait to see Kana Arima work with Strawberry productions.
PrecureHunter said: for all the good the series is, Frill has to be the most stupid name ever
even if its an stage name, holyshit its bad
between Frill and Melt I don't know which has the dumber name
Aka is for sure one of those guys that thinks (english = cool)
He's also from a generation that grew with up Yoshiyuki Tomino anime. After seeing names like Four, Marvel, Full Flat, Quattro, Allelujah and Paptimus, a name like Frill is downright sedate and down to earth.
After the end of episode 1 I was a bit worried Aqua would become a bit too edgy, and I wasn't sure of the direction this story would go in after such a fantastic first episode and the time skip. But this episode finally completely settled my worries. I'm looking forward to more of this.
Amazing episode. I really hope this anime is able to get more seasons and completes the story instead of leaving it after season 1 and asking us to read manga
