Fuck this show is brilliant. The entire sequence from Einar questioning Thorfinn in the woods to the barn was top notch.

Now that's an addition...

Snake tests Thorfinn  and he sees his former boss, the rightful king of Britannia. Snake is unique amongst the other "guests" just as Askeladd was amongst his band. Where Fox failed, Snake ignites Thorfinn's flame to counter the attack, showing Thorfinn's defensive actions defy his words.
I lieu of some comedic panels not being adapted, we get him imagining Arnheid like this, at least. Thank you for letting my bro Einar have some happy scenes.

Einar finally inquires about the past Thorfinn had been hinting of in nightmares, skills and words. It's a harsh reality.
The match cut of the hay Einar sleeps upon to the grassy ground that was set alight when he was a kid. That reminder and Thorfinn's admittance sets Einar off.
What Thorfinn actually sees in his nightmares is surreal. Remember that Anglo-Saxon village he scouted? How many times has he been through similar battles...
Both of them came out of war and into slavery with different philosophies. The fact Thorfinn wasn't responsible for Einar's family dying is now something he says directly to Thorfinn. The ex-warrior learnt his lesson from earlier.
Can't believe in a single episode we were blessed with Askeladd and now the return of Cnut.
Shouldnt Canute have a scar from Thorfinn's slash from last season?

That's not a good adaption. Emotions are exaggerated to an absurd extent, and the transitions between scenes can feel awkwardly abrupt as if something is lacking.
This arc deserves much better.

This anime is really slowing the things down. Tbh 90% of me is watching it for the banger intro. Story since the start of season to have not been appealing. No proper combat scenes either for now. With the awesome ending of season one, this is a weak start of season two. But hopefully this is going to be a rollercoaster ride awaiting ahead.

Thorfinn would be known in todays age as a special snowflake. His circumstances are not out of da ordinary. In that age. meanwhile others are pilliaging raping and slaughtering and looking forward to Valhalla; awaiting for the the valkries to summon them.

Behold of my awesomeness~

This was interesting episode overall. Thorfinn's nightmares are triggered by all the questions Einar had for him and we'll see Einar could handle his need for revenge in the barn and give some support to Thorfinn even in frustration and struggle within his mind. We see also a short montage from Canute in the end of the episode. Nice slice of real life in this episode!

Great ep, pretty good for character development.

Those shots where Thorfinn was dreaming shadows were great, later I found out that that dream scene is literally from the first season when Thorfinn was slashing enemies on the wall early on.

Very significant downgrade in the animation quality.
It's notorious that MAPPA is taking too many proyects to finish in a short time.
Would like it more if WIT was still directing this animation proyect.

The scene with Thorfinn's sleep and Einar was considerably different from the manga, almost as if Einar had a completely different personality. Chapter 60 if anyone is interested

Yea, it was. I cried at the nightmare scene...it was so well done.

"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

Yeah, Thorfinn's previous life and everything that happened, that's sure a struggle and makes sense for how it's torturing him inside now, especially with how Einar suffered from that but in the reverse position, kinda sad alchemy in the end... :S

Snake was the one who was able to bring out the real Thorfinn- the warrior one.

Einar is perfectly right in hating Thorfinn. But he was able to truly understand the true situation of Thorfinn,he is just a PTSD effected young soldier who really regrets his past actions.Glad that Einar was able to forgive him.Tbis is the first step towards them becoming good friends. Also the psychological horros that Thorfinn is suffering from is wonderfully brought in this episode. Also Thorfinn was finally able to say thanks to Einar.

And finally we got to see Canute again.Overall a wonderful episode.

a lot of talking little action, back in season 1 in episode 4 it was straight action with fights each episode till last, i guess this season is taking a pacifist approach which is not bad in reality and in principle but not so appealing for watchers like me who cant sit and watch slice of life...

When will people understand that it's literally the same exact staff that worked on season 1 (under WIT) that's working on season 2? Same people involved but just under a different studio name.
If there is a "downgrade" in animation quality, I'd think the only difference is that they had less time to work on season 2 than season 1. I seem to recall that they've started working on season 1 2-3 years before it started airing, whereas they've had 1.5-ish years for season 2.
Also, any examples showing this "downgrade in the animation quality"? This episode looked good.

Dude, the fact is the same staff doesn't mean that the animation can't actually be worst.
Something similar happened with Attack on Titan, where the quality of the animation
inmediately dropped in the third season. In fact, if you push an animation team to a
long hours work periods and very short of time submission deadlines, It's logical that
the animation quality will end up being worst.

It's not that difficult to understand.

You would be surprised to know but this show had probably one of the longest production times in recent years. So... yeah, that argument already doesn't apply here. If you feel like there's a dip in animation quality that might be because these specific episodes were done in a time when a lot of things were going on with COVID, and other problems they faced at the time, the director literally tweeted about that. And, this or the last episode, I don't remember correctly but one of the staff member was credited in the episode even tho he's passed away in 2020 or 2021 due to cancer. So... yes, these episodes were done during the time. I personally have no problems with the animation. It looks gorgeous. Yeah... if you wanna nitpick then that's a different story.

There are a lot of things that can cause production issues, not just money, time or staff.
