Can someone tell those spirited away ripoffs to get the fuck outta here!? They're making this little girl seem like an obnoxious bitch!

It's been such a long time since I watched a quality anime like that
The first episode of the OVA is just quality from the animation, to the characters, soundtrack, seiyuu and plot. All of them are quality
I'm so happy and glad that these OVAS are getting a TV series this fall
I fell in love with the atmosphere of the anime
The first part is so relaxing I was smiling all the time. Then the second part happened and we knew Chise's past. Chise had such a terrible and tragic childhood
I'm so happy that later on she's surrounded by such lovely people
I really loved Chise and Elias interaction
Ruth is my favorite character. He is just so cute. The way he was eating is so funny
Let's see what the next OVA will brings :)

Wonderful start I must say! This directly reminded me a bit of Mushishi in terms of those floating creatures/elements. But well story wise it sure is different and lovely alike! Looking forwards to see what this series has to offer!

Beautiful vibe, with that Fantasia x Spirited Away/NoFace feel.
Quite imaginative creatures there. Gonna continue to the airing tv.

Anyone else mad about the pancakes?
No self respecting British person would have those pancakes for breakfast. They are for dessert!

Oh no.

Interesting how the monsters didn't have an effect on the environment.
It's similar to Natsume's Book of Friends in terms of the backstory

Wooow, 1st episode and already so many things to like about this series! Animation, artwork, colouring and attention to detail is right up my alley but what stands out the most is the soundtrack which is beautiful... Really oozing Ghibli vibes with the copycat spirits. Also impressed with how nuanced the plot is, everything was portrayed in a satisfying way.

Pacing is kind of long-winded so that'll take getting used to. 8.5/10 imo

Watching this after the TV series started airing.

It's so hard to watch this... through all my tears! T_T

Those little silverfish-like neighbors in the study were adorable. That scene where there was one wriggling under a book, but then suddenly dozens scattered out was a delightful little spook xD

I started this a while ago, but forgot to post about it after my computer stopped working. But this looks amazing! Going to finish the 3rd episode and start up the series.

This mage has some pedo vibe in him.

Overall nothing speacial (at least for me) for now.

They should've started the story from when she was a child instead of the present. Would've had more of an impact since we wouldn't have known that she currently has a nice life now.

Her backstory also seems a bit generic. A child who's bullied or treated poorly just because she acts weird due to seeing spirits/demons. It's also odd how the spirits are only targeting her, unless it's related to her ability to see them which somehow attracts them to her.

I hope it ends up getting my interest since it does feel similar to Mushishi and Natsume Yuujinchou. For now it's a bit disappointing.

I came in knowing what this was going to be about but wasn't prepared for it, and there's still two more episodes to go. Poor Chise :(

I had this downloaded ages ago... BUT I AM ABSOLUTELY 100% SATISFIED AFTER WAITING THIS LONG TO WATCH THIS

I have watched up to episode 13 (latest up-to-date episode) but if you watch this OVA RIGHT AFTER everything makes sense. It fills the void of that long weekly release... It's as if i just watched episodes 14-16.

Way to start off, now we get some idea of Chise's childhood trauma. I am guessing this ends with the mage leaving else she wouldn't be so lonely.

Agree with the art and animation being stunningly beautiful.

However, the episode was fairly boring and disappointing as I was really looking forward to this series for a long time. A few silent moments that did not convey much if anything at all left me sitting on my chair feeling bored out of my mind. Flashback was rather cliche, again, a whole lots of running without conveying much emotions.

Hope it gets much better.

I was kind of confused when I was told this was a prequel since Ruth is in it (I've already seen past the episode where he is introduced). So it's a prequel in the form of a narrated flashback, I see.

The bird carrier robot thing Angelica sent off at 2:55 is a nice call forward to the book bird Elias sent in episode 2 of the tv series.

Novels I have read/am reading pending approval: since November 10 2022

Really nice art, seems like they entered in the middle of the story. But then we got a flashback to her past. Not really feeling the mix between fantasy and modern world so far though.

Whoa this was like spirited away.. I can't believe I almost watched this as a prequel... Not much is spoiled but it feels more right if its between ep12 and 13 as its more or less a flashback.

Behold of my awesomeness~

Started rewatching The Ancient Magus' Bride, and I'm beginning with the OVAs. Last time I watched this series was all the way back when it was airing during the final few months of 2017 and the first few of 2018. Excited to see how this goes since I liked the franchise before to give both the OVAs and the actual anime an 8/10.

And I feel like with the rewatch, my feelings haven't skipped a beat. This OVA was slow-paced, but felt really natural and cozy and was a great way in showcasing the dynamic between Chise and Elias as well as Chise's familiar Ruth, and the maid of the house Silky. It presents a teaser of the kind of world that the show takes place in with all the little creatures from the fairies to the monsters who tried to attack Chise in her past, and the music helps paint an ethereal tone to some of the slow, comforting scenes and made it feel more beautiful and organic that way. It's a brilliant soundtrack that helped the OVA flow like a river, and the visuals looked stunning too. It wasn't a full on anime but WIT Studio impressed so much with nailing the character designs, little details with animation of the magic and creatures and the color palates look absolutely divine.

One thing the OVA did really well too, especially after knowing about the anime, is portraying Chise Hatori as a character a bit more here, showcasing flashes of what troubles she's experienced in her past with the suicide of her mother and the fact that she causes a lot of trouble to others due to her own depression and even visions too of monsters attacking her whereas everyone else can't see it, until she meets the magician of the forest at the library of the forest and was wow'd by it. Can't wait to see how Chise is fleshed out more here, and learn the roots to what made her, her before meeting Elias.

Gorgeous art and visuals, though that's something obvious if it's Wit doing things. This is a prequel, released an year earlier from the original series, so going through this first and foremost makes sense but then we jumped right into the middle of the story it seems, which while being a bit out of place still was good.

A very beautiful "continuation" of the story of Chise and Elias, but at the same time a good way to show the audience Chise's past.
