Bit sad, of course. Not at all what I expected when I stated the series.

One of the saddest endings off an anime I've watched in a while. I've enjoyed most of the episodes even tho it was a bit slow in the middle it was still pretty good.

8/10 from me.

lol its really funny reading these posts. Some people cried, some got emotional/same, some just didn't care, therefor finding the serie not so good.

My theory is, if you didn't care about Yuuki's death, then you would prob rate the serie around 6/10 yea.

Although I gotta admit..I was crying the whole 20 minutes of the episode ;-; I've seen a lot of sad anime, but for some reason this hit me a lot lol.

8/10. Or maybe even 9/10. I can see why some would rate it lower if you werent affected by his death.

Finished it just now. I think it would've been better as a two hour film. Four hours was a little too long for a simple and, ending aside, no twist title. Most of the episodes were very good, but a lot were also needless, such as the episode involving an old man keeping on going despite his grandchildren dying and the 'robot otaku' episode. Without the filler(ish) material and the if earthquake scenes had had a movie budget, I feel it would've been far more dramatic and moving.

The Sixth Sense ending took away from the realism, going against the purpose of the series, but it also saved the series from being totally straight-forward. Apart from end twist, there wasn't anything else, and it would've been boring - as well as being a little unrealistic - if it had included a happy ever after ending. I was expecting/hoping the twist would involve Mirai and Yuuki's parents dying and the pair going to live with Mari, but it wasn't to be.

Eight is in the title and, fittingly enough, I think it's worthy of an 8/10 score. Although it was annoying as hell hearing "Yuuki!" ten times per episode, Mirai and Mari were both very likeable, very real characters. Mirai developed excellently from a normal, unfriendly girl into a girl who understood the value of her family when she faced the risk of death for the first time. I'll pick the series up on DVD at some point.

One last thing: I LOVED Mirai's 'I don't care... but I really do.' eyes - when she half closed them. It looked cute!

The 2 times I cried during the episode - Her mom running up to her and when her mom opened up her presents.

I thought it was a great series, not something that comes up every other season. I'm extremely glad that somebody important died though. It's only natural that a death/injury brings people closer together.

I gave this a 9.0/10 on the Richter scale for making me cry so many times.

Exactly, I don't know how she did it, but as the series went on she grew on me. Excellent example of good character development in my opinion.

Nice ending and quite bitter sweet imo, there isn't really any other ending that I would have rather seen. Also, the characters also grew on me as the show progressed and not just Mirai but all of them, save the parents since they didn't have much to do with the series or at least only minimal screen time.

My personal opinion is that the series purposely led up to the dramatic ending that would make everyone cry. Yeah, the first few episodes were a bit dull, but who would have thought you'd be bawling in the end? I think a successful troll was successful here, gentlemen.

A mediocre show like Haruhi can keep it's head above a 7~8 easily, yet can it make you cry like this? 10/10 for me. The ending was the deciding factor for me. Real life is not full of excitement and action (necessarily), and I think that was accurately portrayed through-out the show, which itself tried to stick to a realistic feel. In fact, it made it more dramatic when Yuki died, because in real, mundane life, when someone close to you dies for real, it's such a shock, because we take life for granted everyday.

As an anime, okay, it wasn't the most entertaining at times, but for what it was striving to achieve as a work of art, it lived up to the expectations, and that was presenting a real, compelling look at the tragedies of life and the lessons we learn from them, and everything that comes with life, including the mundane, but also the emotions we experience.

Bravo, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0.

Just finished the show a little while ago. Perfect how they could take such simple characters and make you really feel for them. The ending was sad but also exactly what made this show amazingly human.

Just finished the episode a couple of days ago. And I have to say... I've never, EVER cried that much and wasted so much tissue paper over an anime before (not even when I watched Air). Sure Tokyo Magnitude might not be "the best" anime ever, but it was a very enjoyable series, and it was definitely more centered around the bonds and difficulties of family relationships than anything, really. Yuuki's death and this final episode had me crying so hard, especially when they showed those little clips of him and Mirai growing up. Gosh, it was so sad and heartwrenching. ;-;

But I really loved this episode; the music, the setting, the ending, and how Yuuki guided Mirai towards their home up until his very last moment... everything was very well done, in my opinion.

Overall, this show gets a 9/10 from me, especially since it teared me up a lot. T^T

PS: I was totally hoping for our favorite robot otaku boy to show up and have a cute little romantic moment with Mirai, but that didn't happen D; (but they showed him on a picture, calling someone on his cellphone - maybe it was Mirai he was calling so he could ask her out on a date? xDDD lol.)

Only just finished it ^^

Ah, I loved it. It was good. I liked the characters and they grew onto me as I progressed throught the 11 episodes.

The final episode slowly gave me the teary feeling. I tried to hold it back until the part where Mirai watched Yuuki disappear... Tear flowed out abit and even more uncontrollably when Mirai handed over the presents to her mother.

I was like...
"tears are flowing... why wont they stop!" *wipes tears*

Washed my face in the end... :'D

I give it a 8.9 :')

Good job to BONES.

The series wasn't really as good as it could have been, but it was I okay. I gave it a 7.

But why does everyone hate the Mirai of the first few episodes? I personally liked her character in the beginning. It seemed pretty realistic to me, but that might just be cuz she reminded me of myself.

You know by the end I wonder if it actually was Yuuk's spirit, some of what he said sort of countered Mirai, and sounded like him, unlike when he first showed up.

9/10, solid show with an excellent twist about half-way, I didn't think any major characters were going to die, I thought it would be the parents.

P.S. I have been waiting way too long for Anbu to finish this.

It was realistic.
I loved it.
This episode made me cry from the beginning til the end. (Man, I really have a soft spot for dramatic shows)
A different reaction she showed when she found out Yuuki is already dead.
If that was me, I'd be crying the whole time.
Besides, I'm sure everyone has had their relative die before, right?
When my late grandma died, I felt like a part of me died too. (That's coz I really love my grandmom, she's like a 2nd mom to me and I've been with her since I was a child so it was hard)
So just seeing a picture of her can make me cry like a baby. (Sad how there are pics lying around here. Lawl I just try not to look at them...lawl)

Anyways...this series was really great.
Sad it was underrated. But oh well...
The music was great, OP, ED and even the soundtrack.
The director did well not to ruin it. :']
A well put story.
10/10.
Supposedly a 9/10, but the +1 was added coz the series made me cry lots. ^^; I love a series that can make me cry like a baby. xD haha (lawl, am I a maso? xD)

Okay guys, it's official - the rest of 2009 is redundant now. Fall is shaping up to be complete bollocks, Spring may have been awesome and had an abundance of good shows, but not one of them besides FmA came close to this.

Loved it, and it kind of reminded me of Planetes for some reason.

This series showed one of the best character developments. Mirai, from someone that wanted the world to end, learned the value of her family and friends in the end. I'd give this show a 9/10. Very realistic.

Tearjerk ending is tearjerk. I cried like a sad fool. Though Mirai still did not manage to convince me. She had a slight character development during the show but very predictable. She was kind of bipolar, with a lot of extremes. I think she only smiled during the last frame or so in this episode. Oh well, Mari and Yuuki made this anime worthy <3

9/10.

Damn. I knew it. Yuuki already waving his hand in the ED. Ugh. I almost cried. I'm not the kind of man who could cry so easily though. The tearjerking part - when Yuuki's spirit is going away after they reach home, and then their mother arrive and crying and hugging Mirai....

So sad he died from a Crush syndrome..

The end and the start were great. The last episode was sad as hell, but honestly? Everything in between was just hit-and-miss. Some episodes were quite fun or at least decent, but some were just ...boring. It's a decent anime, but if you just watch the start and the end it'd be a 9 or so. Now it's a 7/10 due to the fail in between.

So, was Yuuki's death caused by a concussion from when he saved his sister from the falling debris of the Tokyo Tower? Gosh it was sad though, easy characters to get attached too especially if you have a sibling. Made me cry.

Mirai's realization can only be drag on if Yuuki didn't keep appearing and dissapearing...

Yuuki made the ending better, but at the same time annoys me... Mirai's denial could've been solve better.

"
I really thought that she'll believe Yuuki to be around till people tell her otherwise, and she'll go through some sort of psychological battle with herself such as screaming at others calling them liars and such until her parents showed up and embrace her before she finally accepted that her brother is gone... or something like that...
"

There are parts that I really enjoy about this show, and parts that bores me... I really like the emergency bots, emergency rations, as well as disaster preparation and all... And I really loved it as Mirai changes overtime, very little by little that it's almost unnoticeable to a lot of people...

This show is enjoyable from bits to bits, not constant... however, I'm pretty heartless when it comes to sad scene, which is why the sad scenes it made little impact on me, what I do like is the 1 month after story ^_^

7.5/10 rounded up to 8/10 for generosity.

Brutal episode. Many many man points were so close to being lost during this episode.

I liked this show a lot. I wasn't expecting much from it but after the strong start I thought I was onto a winner. The middle eps had a few scenes I didn't like and I was praying that the last few eps would redeem the show. Pulled it out the bag imo. I've given it a 9 because I think it stands out from a lot of shows from recent seasons and for that I tip my hat.
