The incest was one of the most annoying parts about the anime, so thankfully I find it much more bearable in the manga.

Bando is one cool guy. Finished the entire manga in a day (started it just before going to bed past midnight). It's better than the anime, but surprising they decided to go an anime-original ending considering they followed 75% of the story relatively accurately.

And....that's a wrap.

They met again although I have to say that their "reunion" isn't what I expected. Also, that child with Kouta is the daughter of Kouta + Yuka? Hmm...

I'm going to miss Lucy/Kaede/Nyu though ;.;

Oh and yeah, Bando is a pretty cool dude especially his manga counterpart to his anime adaptation. The guy deserves a spinoff.

I don't think Lucy was reincarnated, I think that girl just happened to have the name Kaede. It's not that unpopular in Japan.
"Canaan. You're a victim whose past was taken away by war. And she's a defeated person who lost her past in a power struggle. Soldiers who are born within destruction take hatred as their weapon. Not a fan of this ending. Wasn't a fan of Kaede's Nyuu Personality, and definitely was not a fan of Yuka.. The idea that Kouta most likely ended up having a kid with Yuka and Named it Nyuu makes me sick lol.

I guess the reason I'm not a fan of Yuka is because she ended up being the one that Kouta choose which was by default. Kouta did not love her the way she loved him. Yuka's memory of Kouta's loving actions were exaggerated, and when you look back at that time even Kouta's sister knew that Kouta did not have strong feelings for Yuka. Kouta 8 year's prior to the end had far stronger connection with Lucy. (I also have a partial anger towards Kouta's indecisiveness)

What make me even sadder is that Lucy never truly got to express her love while she was ALIVE to kouta, except by jealous violent action and through the Nyuu personality.

- Anna and spy girl survived. So the evil dad really cared about his daughter, nice.

- Nana x papa/Kurama FTW.

- Bandou survived, hahaha. Probably the most surprising revelation, i wonder if he will respond to Mayu's feelings.

- That dog Wanta was cool and calm as shit

- I know that Yuka wasn't really popular since most people tend to ship Nyuu and Kouta. But Nyuu's already dead, so..

- Lucy and Nyuu reincarnated. That was fast. Fortunately it were twins, not triplets. The third personality had gone for good.

- Took him 10 years to notice the message in the bottle lol.

- All ends well. 8/10. I love happy ending, the death toll was pretty high, so this ending was good.

Ending was emotionally devastating :(
http://i.imgur.com/iyODeTB.gif

I dont care about the reincarnation, its still better that nothing, but i would like to let her live and stay with Kouta somehow... I dont care for the dead characters brought back to life, i just dont care. I dont care for the Cousin-cousin marriage either, but i really dont think that he could love Yuka the same way that he loved Kaede (Nyu/Lucy). Its just dont end up!
Well of course that he loved her most, from the early start when they were kids, they were both in love. Yuka was just allways there loving him too, thats it, they were close but never that close in feelings. She was just pushing this love onto him.
They deserved a second chance (Kaede&Kouta), I mean I dont blame the girl that much for being what she was after experiencing such things, but still, its not like it had to be this way. Damn.

I dont know how there is a way for Kouta to live forever and ever happily with the one that he really loved after shes reborn into twins? Kouta is already bout 10 years older, has a family and a daughter now, right? And its not like the twins just pop up from the sky right? They propably have parents that care for them. They are just little girls, there is no way for any kind of love story between, i mean how exacly?

Btw, its definately one of my favorite manga.

Nice ending! So the two girls are the reincarnations of Lucy/Nyuu? Well, I have always hoped for LucyxKouta. This way it may not be satisfyingly, but it's ok.
I had my issues regarding the plot, however, overall it was a good read.

I feel so cheated with this ending. I was already confused about how Bandou survived but the reincarnation thing at the end just lost me. A lot of things don't add up, but I liked the first half of the manga better than the last half, oh well.

Amazing series

screw some of you guys lol I will gladly welcome a happy ending after 106. This probably is one of the first pieces of fiction that almost made me cry (a few futurama episodes) damn.

So did that girl get her singing voice back ? Nozemi ?

Do the twins remember everything?

I think after Lucy sliced Bandou ... and after everyone left Kurama was also on the beach in one of the panels after so maybe he found him and brought him over to one of his friends to fix him up. after he recovered in the hospital

Kurama did still have contacts I think (he had a fake arm in the end)

I still feel bad for that poor clumsy girl that lucy killed in the beginning

Nana was my favorite character in the manga/series so Im happy she survived in both the manga and in the anime and that at least in one she can live with her papa :).

10/10 fantastic series

Marathoned the Elfen Lied anime AND entire manga yesterday and, dear God, what a mistake! While I loved the series I've never read such a dark, depressing manga!

My only real complaint with the chapter has more to do with me being incredulous that Bandou somehow survived being cut in half and having his innards spilling out onto the beach. That said, I'm happy to see him alive, just... it seemed so unlikely.

I literally squealed when reincarnated Kaede and Nyu showed up. They deserve a chance at a happy life, though I find myself wondering if they have parents & if so are they still alive? Or did they reincarnate like Himari from Omamori Himari, and just got a 2nd chance? Are they intended to be reunited and re-start life with Kohta and the others?

I especially found myself wondering this... let's say Kohta didn't have a female cousin that loved him and clung to him, and he was moving to that area rather than just visiting it. I wonder if Kaede's life could have been different with him around from the start. Could she have turned her life around, or was it already too late to stop her descent?

Anyhow, awesome manga, and nice ending.

He don't have dick anymore so he can't fuck Mayu. Lol

How? Hah. It is based on Japanese mythology, I think. Didn't you notice that reincarnations are quite often been used in animes/mangas/VNs? ))

The only thing that caught me off guard was Bandou lol! Then again he's pretty much a cyborg now. Then again his death the way it was was perfect and should have stayed that way.

I saw the Resurrection coming lol but it would have been better if it ended without the twins at the end. The message in the bottle was emotional enough.

So if you take out Bandou & the twins resurrection thing then the ending would have been pretty solid.

Overall 8/10. btw I was reading Gokukoku no Brynhildr before this so reading and finishing this manga had me see a lot of shit that he took from this and adapted it into his new story.

I like new story better though this is more way adult.

I think in a story like this (or any piece of fiction for that matter), there's always room for interpretation. Those twins might have been apparitions or actual girls. What are they exactly? The answer is up to you. How did Bandou get a functioning body again? Your guess is as good as mine.

Lucy had to die, even though we all wanted her to live with the Nyuu personality. She accepted the consequences of her actions as a rampant dichronius, and I think it's a fitting end. The props should be given to Nana, who truly avoided Lucy's fate.

I believe the author exercised the fact that Kouta was the only person that truly mattered to the true Lucy in her unfortunate life, hence the twins appearing after Kouta opened the note. It was a very touching gesture, along with the resolution of the plot. Sure, everything went back to normal so quickly, but what else could you expect? As a writer and aspiring amateur mangaka for my own pleasure, I would end my story just around the same.

A riveting tale told in blood and intense emotions leading to a melancholy conclusion -- a true masterpiece to those who choose to appreciate it.

I don't get why some guys are freaked out about things such as Bando surviving (he definitely got his soldiers cut off now, if you know what I mean xD) and Lucy and Nyuu resurrecting. I mean, the whole series was about horned humans with magical arms that could do pretty much anything, but those parts were too off the mark? Anything goes in your own manga series, could've drawn Goku at the end saving the world and it would still be feasible, because the manga is the writer's creation, after all.

Anyway, I liked the happy ending, giving the whole series an 8/10, as some things weren't explained as much as I wanted. I also feel the ending could've developed a bit more, as we are unsure of the future of characters like Nozomi and Mayu.

Also, what's up with people freaking out about the cousin relationship? It's completely normal in Japan, we are not reading Marvel/DC comics here. There are several other manga/anime/LNs etc. that portray or mention similar relationships. For example, Sword Art Online. We shouldn't judge if such a thing is part of Japan. It's quite ironic if you do when you're reading a manga or whatever.

Back to the story...they left it ambiguous whether the spy and Anna will be safe or not...I mean, the fact they're shown alive probably means they'll survive later on, but Anna forgot how to leave the cave and the island collapsed. One more miracle we'll not witness! :|

Pretty much a fail that 10 years passed and Kouta never looked at the stone closely enough. A child could look better in a day than he could in 10 years, come on bro... Fortunately, it was not anything that was time-essential.

All in all, it was a great ride, too much strife but in the end we get a satisfying ending. While some may complain it may not be feasible according to their own theories, it's still better than having all the characters we care about just stay dead. If you want shit like that, go read any dystopian book ever written.

Cheers.

I saw the anime long ago and read the manga shortly afterwards to get the complete story well before I had a MAL account or even was a part of other anime db like sites. For some reason this yet one of many series I forgot to put in my list but this series kind of has a special place in my heart as one of the first few (low double digit at the time) series I've seen to deal with the subjects it did and especially one of its type to be so openly gory and free with the nudity (the latter is pretty tame to what goes on in series nowadays lol).

Looking back it overall wasn't all that amazing but I couldn't recall many series pushing forth like it was at the time of its true popularity height, if released today it would seem underwhelming and most likely would get slammed nowadays by most critics but I remember there was a time when Elfen Lied hype was real haha.

Making the transition from the anime to manga was quite something too, Lynn Okamoto's manga was quite rough, if not super amateurish looking during the earlier chapters but as you progress you can see his evolution slowly improve on that, it was pretty neat. Also with so many series looking so similar nowadays even when done by different author/artists it's nice to recognize manga artists who still has their very own distinctive styles to make them stand out more.

The ending was pretty heavy even if I didn't enjoy it much, a lot of people go on Bando living but the reincarnated Lucy and Nyuu is kind of what soured the ending for me the most, just felt really forced in a way to be a complete happy ending and AFAIK (been a long ass time since I've read this) there was no build up to it. Plus there was some unanswered questions that I'm sure I had at the time I finished but can remember in much detail now (doh). Oh well, despite all that I felt Elfen Lied is still a classic in a way.

I just finished reading the manga and I'm really confused by the ending

Who's the mother of the twins? Lucy?
Are the twins Diclonius? (I noticed their hair had a ribbon tied the same way Nana does to hide her horns)
If the twins are supposed to be reincarnations of Lucy & Nyuu, do they have the same memories of Lucy?
What does it mean now that Lucy is a kid? Does she still feelings for Kouta? (I doubt Kouta can love a kid)

Also what was Nana's stepfather's answer? Does he see her as a daughter or waifu material?

Yeah it's mostly the twins part that confused me the most. Other than that everything kinda wraps up nicely except for Bondou and The Agent coming back to life (Felt unnecessary) but Anna still alive was surprising but alright.

Also Kouta marrying Yuka a.k.a his cousin. WTF. But then again I read Oreimo

The mother of the twins is unknown. I don't think it's anyone we know, and it's irrelevant if they don't tell us. They're simply "shell kids" for the resurrected Kaede (Lucy) and Nyuu. I don't think they are Diclonius, since there was birth control for some time until they solved the issue, and the twins seem to be the same age as Kouta's daughter.
Safe to presume they both have their memories, with the way they addressed Kouta and how he went crazy emotional at the end.
Lucy (Kaede) probably still likes Kouta but will keep a distance, since she knows he's taken now haha
Nana's stepfather thing, I don't remember too well. I think he was taking her as his wife, maybe, but either way, since they ended up together, it might be a natural development, since the idea is out there.

The Oreimo comment cracked me up, but won't comment on it since it's another series xD
And yea, it's pretty common, as I mentioned in my post, cousin relationships are legal. Doesn't surprise me anymore, nor does it stop me from enjoying good storytelling! :p

What the fuck was that? The only happy ending was Nana being reunited with her fake "papa" plus revealing that Anna was alive was also good, other than that everything was tottal shit , why the fuck did they bring back Bando? No human lives for ever and for a soldier like Bando, dying on the battle feild while putting up a fight against a monster (even if he lost against Lucy) was good enough he got a badass death that fits a soldier.
And what's the idea behind bringing back Lucy & Nyuu as reincarnates? There's nothing happy about reviving a monster who's vectors can have a range that's so long it would make a nuclear bomb look like a small grenade, not to mention that the girl's main goal is to annihilate humanity.

Also...I really hate that oblivious kid Kouhta, I wish If he was killed alongside Lucy.

And who's reading it in 2016!
I cannot take this off my mind. Im sad that Lucy died
I cannot take that reincarnation as a happy ending
We all know that Kouta loved Nyuu/Lucy very much.

They should have lived in the mountains. Having babies
That would be more fitting ending.

so i decided to read the manga after several years, at one time i had said i wouldnt because i love the anime and i heard the manga had a different ending but i decided i would anyway. i dont understand all the people saying the anime sucked but the manga was good considering half the manga is covered at times almost shot for shot and line for line in the anime with extra things, small changes, and extended scenes like you expect from an anime. If you like one you should atleast somewhat like the other...

But anyway i still prefer the anime, the music box, the clock, the way lucy/kaede is more cold and cool and even a bit sadder in the anime is also better imo. Lucy's suggestion to nana to go live in the house that she cant made me bappy that their relationship ended on that note, and of course, the kiss that happens in the anime that never does in the manga made it a peaceful end between lucy and kouta. They both had those sort of unclear endings where you can assume about lucy/kaede but dont technically get an answer but i think i preferred the animes as opposed to the reincarnation.

Also i sortive liked kouta before and kurama but now i dont like either. Hated how they both acted like lucy was the only one who had done evil in the story. Kouta telling lucy that everyone has to deal with what she does was moronic, no you idiot not everyone has it in their DNA to kill people, also if you hadnt lied in the first place your sister and father would never had been killed, if anything it would've been yuka who he treated terribly anyway. And kurama who made an employee kill his daugther but couldnt kill his own which makes everything mariko did on him, basically killed his wife, and even with all his sad faces he still was part of the experiments torturing diclonius.

wasnt crazy about anyone besides lucy already, but the manga sortive made me hate all the other characters besides bandou, but i already kind of liked him anyway.

Love Lucy. Kaede <3

the ending was quite good in my opinion. lucy & nyuu were reincarnated, that's nice. lots of people are talking about how bandou couldn't have been alive, but hey, they were able to make copies of living moving diclonius, why can't bandou be a cyborg?? but something i will never accept is how kouta & yuka got together in the end & made babies but it's only realistic i suppose it shows how life goes on for everyone else even though lucy is gone & since lucy is gone, kouta is bound to end up with yuka. ( but still the incest ) ... i was really moved when kouta still waited every year for lucy to show up. even though the nana & papa part was kinda sweet i didn't really approve of it, they always had this kind of father daughter relationship & now they're gonna be lovers ( sorry nope ) i think the manga ended this better than the anime, with the manga being more realistic & easier to understand.

I was happy that it seemed to be a happy ending for the characters because of everything they've gone through. But I just find it to be lazy that they bring Bandou (who I really rooted for and loved), Anna, and that Vash-looking assassin back without any explanation to why it happened. But screw it,it's a happy ending that was well deserved.
"While many can pursue their dreams in solitude, other dreams are like great storms blowing hundreds, even thousands of dreams apart in their wake. Dreams breathe life into men and can cage them in suffering. Men live and die by their dreams. But long after they have been abandoned they still smolder deep in men's hearts. Some see nothing more than life and death. They are dead, for they have no dreams."

Yeah... there was some dumb stuff, like Bandou being alive... but, the feels were huge.
Sometimes, happy endings are underapreciated... (if you can really call happy a story where the protagonist has to be headshoted after suffering a horrible pain because her god damn flesh was being melted to the bones!!)
I'm happy to finally read the end of one of the first anime I ever saw.

Why did every character come back to life.. bandou, kurama etc, but the one who deserved happiness the most had to die....feelsbad

Also yuka is really annoying, disliked her the entire time... I have to say the anime had a better ending, but both are terrible.

I enjoyed anime version more, or maybe it left bigger impact on me since back then I was just starting with manga & anime... well, it was a good read anyway.

Good manga 7/10 as for the cheesy happy ending I think the mangaka wanted to give everyone a win his readers and his characters even if it was abrupt. The manga was depressing 90% of the time and gutwrenching that when I read the cheesy asspull ending I didn't care I welcomed it.

It's great to see that everyone's happy and well despite the close call the whole world had with the whole murderous horned baby situation but it's a bit jarring to see nearly everyone who was presumed dead but didn't get their head ripped off suddenly reappear just in time to wrap things up. It felt like a movie just finished filming and the whole cast comes together to celebrate. Weird but not necessarily bad.

It's bittersweet to see Kouta come back to their meeting place every year for a decade and finally finding that letter from her. Kouta and Yuka definitely had that kid and I can't help but think that those twins came from Nana and Kurama... Bandou and Mayu probably ending up together makes me feel real weird.

well, what a depressing manga, honestly, it is ok. I would be very critical on this but on the enjoyment side of things, I liked thinking about how humans act, how paranoid they are, the hate, the devilish behaviour. Elfen Lied is pretty good at showing this.

enjoyed this quite a bit.

This was just a crappy experience from beginning to end. It succeeded in making me horny like it intended (Also kind of pissed that we don't get single sex scene in this after all the baiting) but everything else was just bad. From the writing to the characters. 4/10.

Though I spoilered me quite often (who survives) through fandom, bc one person spoilered elfenlied on youtube until I realised he spoilered wrong (Yuka would die he said),I started using Fandom too often.
I loved the ending and the whole manga. No flaws seen on my site. The ending is near perfection! Love it ~
I would like to hear Nyu and Nozomi singing in the anime though.

Further, I have read Brynhilde too. Thanks to the author. I hope you stay healthy and are mostly happy!

I don't understand reincarnation all too well, does this mean the twins have Lucy's Soul and memories or what?
