Dear god..so much blood! as much as i was expecting him to go on a killing spree i'm glad he just killed himself but when i saw the knife fling in the air i thought it was gonna stab someone lol

but this class trip two students died and it stopped the deaths?

teachers want to make sure all the students go on this death trap so they can deal with it on there own is what i'm getting for this,i would had left town just like all the random students are going to when summer break starts!.

still keeping my hopes up for sportys guy and twin tails to make it to the end

nah, i don't think i would want another gruesome anime on my list, i watched HOTD because my friends recommended it to me, and it turned out to be really good, and was a great anime despite the ridiculous amount of fan service

the most gruesome and adult manga/anime ive seen would have to be Gantz, which is good once you get used to your favourite characters dying all the time, the anime is finished but the manga is still on-going

I didn't love this episode, it seemed boring to me, but I still think Mei is the dead one, but I dunno. It would be cool if someone died by a shark attack.

!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!

Anyone here read mangá version?
In the spoiler above are three pages of it, one scene that was cut of in episode 5 and gave a HUGE HINT about who is the extra.

Nothing so big, just seems to confirm a few thoughts that i see here:

And also [not spoiler, stay cool]:

Yukari's death:

Mizuno our dear late waifu's death:

Teacher death:

The doubt, who is changing the original book? The mangá or anime?
Anime is more different form original? And more poor translated?
In the book the characters are all that cold and apathetic?

Nah, that wasn't horrifying. Horrifying would have been if he first said he had turned in failing grades for all of them so they'd have to repeat next year.

Notice I said "somewhat", I didn't consider the dream to be that scary, still it's better than the previous episodes.

The sound, art and general direction were fantastic in this episode. This series is really getting better and better, it feels like a top notch horror story right now.

I had linguine and ended up laughing the whole time because of how overdramatic the teacher felt the need to be when killing himself. But, I'm also really tired atm, so that probably helped limit my sympathy for this series' characters. :P

Sakakibara's nightmare was so... creepy, disturbing... The final of the episode was really interesting. You are not the dead one. Does that means that one is dead and didn't noticed?

Holy crap, that dream scared the crap outta me. I couldn't even look at it half the time. I wonder if this is going to end with them resolving the phenomenon, or stopping it for this year... I really wonder why Mei was being so cryptic about the fact that Sakakibara is NOT the dead one. Maybe Mei's actually the dead one, if she's so sure that Sakakibara is not?

I was also eating when the teacher killed himself. I quickly lost my appetite. >.<

And about Mei going to the morgue in the first episode... didn't she say that it was her cousin who had died? Or did I miss something? I really seem to recall her saying that it was her cousin though. Or maybe I'm just going crazy, which is also pretty likely.

The conversation between Sakakibara and his father in the previous episode has me wondering. If he had been to that town (which I've forgotten the name of) previously, then that would explain why twin-tails girl remembers his hand. I wonder why he wouldn't remember though.

I'd like to know why Mei thinks that Sakakibara isn't the extra person. For some reason, I kind of don't want it to have to do with her eye, although the ending really hinted that it was.

What "Adolescence" do you have?
Do you remember "Childhood"?

Still don't think Mei could be the dead\extra.
For now i only know she had an extra-corporal experience during the near death experience when she almost died in surgery.
This leaves consequences. Perhaps his "phantom eye" gives her extra perception.

It was her cousin, alright. Everyone else must have confused you with how they spoke about Mei's "twin." Mei doesn't have a twin; it's her supposed "younger" sister who died during birth of her mother 12 years ago (if I remember right from the ep; I'll edit after rewatching). Mei is 15 years old; her mother might have made the doll with the thought that she would look like Mei, but with different eyes.

Mei taking off her eyepatch in the end made it 3/4 probable for her to be able to distinguish the dead person with her left eye.

But, what's scary is if Mei's eye couldn't detect it even with that. Also, for the phenomenon to be stopped midyear at some point yet for it to still continue in later years, it means that it's going to happen again and again even if it was stopped short at one time; the people who stopped it would forget.

Hmmm as to the stopping of it in Yomiyama shrine...I think it somehow fits perfectly. I don't know
what kind of shrine it is (Buddhist or Shinto?), but maybe going there, they could "distinguish" and "exorcise"(?) the dead person. That if all of them go to the shrine, they could erect a barrier so the dead person can't go out of it? That's why no one could tell the tale of who the dead one is...Or they buried the dead person in the shrine 15 years ago? Or they could have burnt the dead person. After all, fire is said to be a purification; that's why "witches" were burnt at stakes before...

One thing is for sure, Yomi(underworld)yama shrine is a VERY EERIE name.

This anime keeps getting better and better. Even the OP is starting to grow on me. The opening scene reminded me a ton of another certain scene in Higurashi.... Heck the entire anime is starting to remind me of Higurashi! Especially their little club that they have investigating the curse. Since Higurashi is one of my favorite series, I'm truly loving this show. I still don't really like Mei as a character though. She just a depressing freak to me now that I know she is real. She really needs to lighten up a bit.

Furthermore, if this anime actually has a fucking beach episode as the preview shows I'm definitely dropping the current score I have for it...

I want to know the connection between Mei's eye and her sister's eye that is covered. Is it possible that the eyes used in Mei's sister doll have some power?
Mei said that she has that surgery when she was 4, 2 years after the "born" of her sister. Is it connected?

My current theory is that Akazawa is the dead one. Seeing as its pretty much obvious that Kouichi is not the dead one based on the red herring of his dream and Mei confirming that he is indeed not dead (and Mei knows everything).

They said in previous episodes that the memories of those who are associated with the dead person will be altered. That is why Sakakibara does not remember Akazawa even though he was in Yomiyama a year and a half ago (he doesn't even remember being in Yomiyama). His dad omitted this piece of information during the phone call, but implied that his memory was hazy - this may be because his dad is in India and the curse is not as far reaching hence it took a while to change the dad's memory (especially seeing as his dad is not directly connected to Akazawa)

All in all, good episode and I think that the "hint" the bar-customer left behind at the shrine lets them determine who is the "dead" one. Once they kill the extra "dead" student... The curse will stop for that year... hopefully...

Pretty good episode. I like the fact that's it almost all backstory and less unnecessary story. More anime need to follow this rule of thumb. More sense, less nonsense! Can't wait to find out what they used to get discontinue the curse. Looking forward to the next!

LOL, since when has FANservice ever been a "bad" thing.

Yeah, yeah, I know all the negatives, however I think it's fair to say that this anime's priorities is with it's very interesting and mysterious storyline, there's no need to worry.

That was an intense scene to see in the beginning. And I think that was like the best looking death sequence I've seen in anime yet.

Overall, it was a pretty good episode. At least everyone now is talking to Kouichi and Mei. And that dream was fucked up..... U are really dead.

Next episode seems to be a relaxing episode, but I won't be surprised if someone dies during their school trip.

First they treat Sakakibara and Mei as non-existing. Then suddenly they are friends with that counter measure girl and others.

Other than that pretty good episode. And next is beach episode, what the fuck with a beach episode in a horror anime. I'm guessing that will ruin the atmosphere.
