I have vague feelings. On the one hand, it’s clichéd to the point of parody, but on the other, there’s definitely something to it. Also, do they use any real brand of carbonated drinks? Such an opportunity, lmao.

So I think it’s a bit dramatic yes but also I know how it is to be bullied and so I also can say it’s not that dramatic cause I have been through worse…but what I didn’t like was that she changed her whole academic life just to study at a bad high school because of a guy being a bit nice to her…like I can see if u are bullied all ur life how that can happen but bro personally I would never do that so it’s unrealistic af with that lol BUUUUUTTT bro the music and the interactions otherwise and the tear jerkers makes it so touching…overall it’s a great first episode it would have been even better if that happened after like 4 episodes so we would have been a bit emotionally connected to the MC but otherwise I really liked the first episode…7-8/10 for me. It made me emotional so it’s a win

I rarely like woman MC without backbones I need a lot of good reasoning and good writing of the character. In this one its 50/50 we have reasonings and they are good. Its make sense and she wanna change. The problem is that good part ends here. She was happy that the boy poured lemonade on her…..that not being shy and have problems with talking to people and she choose this school because of him…..Im still gonna be positive and believe that she gonna have a personality traits beside him.

For Miura he definitely better than a lot of love interest but I would say he is middle ground for now

I was drawn to this thanks to its attractive visuals, but I have to say, there was really nothing to this one. No interesting hook or anything. She's bullied because she's quiet and absent minded I guess? Standard Shoujo fare I suppose. I appreciate the early 2000s vibe I'm getting from this, but other than that, nothing to write home about or tell. Perhaps the relationship between the two gets more interesting as time goes on, but I'm not sure how long I'll stick around with this.

Not much of a shoujo person and this definitely did not stand out to me compared to what I've seen in the past.

But I do sympathize with Ishimori complacency and that you get so used to being treated like garbage that there's no energy to fight back. Felt like a very cheesy/cliched first episode, and that's exactly what I love about it. A show I'm surprisingly excited to stick with, I've high hopes to see Ishimori coming out of her shell and being surrounded by good people who want the best for her.

TL;DR: Nothing like Kimi ni Todoke, unless you count shy girl x popular boy + tropes

Watched this with my wife because it looked cute and a review on the manga said its like Kimi ni Todoke. Ended the episode icked out of our minds.

Don't know why this is being compared to KnT when literally the male lead is the most impatient, condescending dickhead who doesn't give the female lead ANY autonomy whatsoever. This poor girl is changing her whole life path because a guy was nice to a crying girl on the street. Just because he's hot and was nice to you ONE TIME doesn't mean you should let him tell you what to do - let alone even speak for you syllable by syllable. Who raised her to be get roped around so hard like this? (and to be a parrot)?
The dude barely knows the girl yet orders her like a dog on 3 separate occasions (in one episode)! and I can't for the life of me understand how someone can find it cute. Its the fantasy of letting the hot guy control your every action I suppose.

Kazehaya, is funnily enough, the exact opposite: hes extremely nice, is maybe a little too patient, and; out of consideration - gives Sawako way too much space !! Not trying to discredit Sawako either because she breaks out of her shell by going out of her way to earnestly make friends... not because Kazehaya told her to! Sure, he's encouraging and supportive of her in class, but when she's being bullied, he doesn't deny her the opportunity to handle things her way. Not trying to yuck people's yums, but that's infinitely cuter to me than the "bark!" "woof!" vibe this first episode brought in.

Either way, I'm convinced that people who compare the two were on their phones the entire time, have selective memory, or had it on 2x. Probably all of the above. There's no way we watched the same show. Maybe their dynamic gets better later on but honestly I'll never know. Nothing against the people involved in the production, but watching a pathetic female lead get put on a leash and commanded like a dog during the very first episode isn't for me. The visuals are incredibly stunning though.

kids suck

it's always hard for me to watch that kind of stuff, probably because I am the opposite of a stone in such situations, and it's hard to think anything other than "SAY SOMETHING GODDAMN IT"

But with some judicious pausing to let those feelings pass, you can appreciate the story

tho I agree, tanking her chance to go to a top tier school (also separating her from the bullies btw) and going to a safety school cause one dude picked up some fallen papers for you is nuts 😅 I guess isolation and being an anime character are powerful forces when combined

Uka has comically huge eyes and look like lemon slices.

While Kai's apology was extremely insincere, at least he also wore gym clothes. That was super sweet of him.

Poor Uka, I completely feel for her. Why do they call her stony? Bc of her social anxiety? As someone who was bullied too, it pisses me off so damn much. People who bully others are insecure assholes who are insanely jealous of the person they're bullying. This is such a wholesome anime. I'm going to cry, Kai is the biggest sweetheart, ahhhh

The music adds a beautiful touch too. The OP was okay, but the ED is a total boop and so dang cute. The animation is lowkey beautiful. Uka's home is super detailed.

Living for all the shoujo this season!! I love this one so dearly. Last season was a letdown with not so great shoujo (Blue Box has been a disappointment IMO. I'm looking forward to all the cute and squee moments ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡

ALSO to everyone saying its crazy she went to her current high school bc Kai was nice to her is wrong. I genuinely think she saw this as the only opportunity to grow and change herself. All she's known is getting bullied, so I would probably have done the same thing if I were in her position. It would've given me hope and reminded me that not everyone is a dick.

I also don't think this is super cliche, so I'm wondering why everyone is saying its cliche lol

Sorry but torpedoing your academic life because someone was mildly nice to you is INSANE
@notthatjesus I don't think it was necessarily bc someone was nice to her. It has more to do with the fact that she saw this as an opportunity to get out of the bullying slump/loop she's been stuck in her whole school life.

Gorgeous soundtrack. Everything else was shockingly poor, wow.

There seemed to be some excitement for this one before the start of the season, but I couldn't figure out why. After episode 1, I'm even more confused.

It's just bizarre... Running into a random guy on the streets and then flunking the entrance exams on purpose. Guy literally putting words into the girl's mouth. The cartoonish bullies that got chased away like some sentai villains. Reading the answer off of a classmate's notebook and the teacher accepting it.

It feels like a parody of stuff like Kimi ni Todoke, which I genuinely enjoyed.

Corny and unbelievably bland. They really don't make good shoujo anymore. I saw someone saying it gives off "early 2000s shoujo" vibes, and I couldn't disagree more. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but the comparison is straight up insulting.

The art style is forgettable, the plot is unremarkable, the characters are already unlikeable... at least blue box was somewhat pretty to look at. I could barely make it past the first episode, so I can already tell this is not gonna pass the 3 ep rule.

Yeah, very typical.. typical typical, if that means anything. I mean for the sake of it being a shoujo, we get our main heroine as someone who’s devoid of… many things, one of them being a going school life. I mean of course, you can’t play the main character of a japanese cartoon unless you are uber introverted, don’t have friends, talk a LOT… inside your head and sit beside the window seat. The epitome of plain girl… our main heroine. Though hey, you can only meet guys who look like k-pop idols by being that way, and that way alone.

Those kids calling her a stone lmaooo… no, I mean what bullies, doing that to a girl. Absolutely unacceptable. Still knowing the main girl chose to go to this school just because a guy she barely knew told her she’d look good in their uniform makes pretty much everything really hilarious to me. I mean they tried with the usual bullying, but no, that stuff looked like something straight out of a comic skit. “HeLp mEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE…..”, no seriously, help us by not exaggerating stuff, though this is pretty usual for a shoujo, so what can I say.
@Softhenic03 "for the sake of it being a shoujo, we get our main heroine"... literally shut it. Just because the character goes through bullying it is isn't her fault that she is in that situation. She is at the point of where she can't do anything because she is constantly being bullied. Just blaming it is a shoujo is so misogynistic. She literally begins to stand up for herself in slow measures. For example asking for help and soda explosion to others. Someone who has been in a toxic environment it is for hard to them to ask for help. It takes real courage to ask and the main lead is actually a step by helping her to guide that point. He pulls away from stereotype of prince who does it all. He actually wants the girl to build up her courage. Shoujo haters are extremely sexist. No one wants the weird over sexaulized shounen stuff (not saying all shounen but most). The bullying thing is extremely childish because they're extremely childish (they literally just got out of middle school)
SHOUJO IS NOT A GENRE. SHOUJO IS DEMOGRAPHIC TOWARDS GIRLS.
SHOUJO≠ ALL ROMANCE
SHOUJO ≠ GENRE
But this user continues to hate on this anime because it is a shoujo. Other demographics have the same tropes too.
