2 third of this episode was great (Satella scenes, the crystal scenes and the sanctuary experiments) but the end went down hill quick for me art wise Ngl. Subaru looks very inconsistent this episode lol. Corona strikes again???

It’s weird to me how he’s the only character shape shifting. I wonder if his design/proportions is hard to nail down between different animators. All of the other characters look the same.

And the fact that we’re reaching the climax of the mid way point of this arc. I’m a little worried about the upcoming episodes (art wise). There are some really important scenes. The story is going to be great no doubt about that, but I don’t want wonky faces to ruin important scenes.

Totally agree the art got a little wonky the last few scenes. And subaru is always looking different design wise which is kinda frustrating because everything else is great.

Just a reminder they make this episode inside their home because covid 19.

Not in studio.

So they probably fix the animations in BD version.

Hm, Emilia actually being able to comfort Subaru, when she just underwent trial.. Wonder, if maybe Emilia helping someone could help her become stronger as well.. If that would help her overcome her past as well.. Maybe?.. I wonder.. Sometimes you can gain confidence through other things, at least it was even impressive how Emilia was suffering after trial herself, but managed to calm down and comfort Subaru..
Well, if Echidna was performing experiments on creation of person, experimenting with personalities, emotions, soul.. That's quite impressive research.. Ethical questions as well are there, of course.. But still it's quite an impressive thing she manages to do.. Almost a god.. Though, at the same time it's also mystical really.. Like, it seems she was able to do one things, but wasn't able to do other things..
And Beatrice is going to join and help Subaru now?.. Well, I like Betty, so I'm glad to see this.. ;P

Where did Subaru get the knife btw.

This show has so many layers, it's incredible.

Subaru's Design got wonky towards the end though. He looks a lot more like his mother when the quality dips.

If Beatrice makes a contract with Subaru, will she be treated with RbD as well? This could be interesting.
I'm going to be very sad when this anime end.

This episode was really good as always I hope it reach top 50 anime of all time by the end of the first cour.

One thing I noticed though, they missing out some scene with Ryuzu empty shell and how Subaru touched it without thinking or maybe it was scrapped from the light novel.

I have two doubts:
1) Why was Emilia not devastated?
2) Why was Elsa not at the mansion even though Subaru was (approx) half a day late?

1) The fear of her trial almost got her but when she saw a "true terror" on Subaru's face with his teeth and hands trembling she realized is not the time for that and took care of him who was visible in a worse state than her.
2) He wasn't late this time. From what i remember he had everytime a 3 days countdown till Elsa would have arrived so this time he got there with at least 1 or maximum 2 days before her.

1. Yes, although the "convenience of plot" helped a bit in the change of mood of Emilia. In the 1st timeline Subaru woke Emilia, she was blinded by absolute terror and could not even pay attention in Subaru state. Both of them would be there suffering.

BUT, maybe Echidna took it more "lightly" with Emilia this time. The moment Subaru return inside the Tomb, even if that Equidna was not the same Equidna that was in the previous timelime, she instantly can read Subaru's memories.

Echidona can do it, we already know from the story until this moment.

-------

2. Let's watch the Episode 6 again, and compare with Ep. 10:

a) Subaru wake up with Emilia. Check
b) They leave the tomb and meet Garf and Ryuzu. Check.
c) They have a reunion with Ram and Otto in Ryuzu's house. Check.
d) - 1st difference:
Ep. 6. Subaru have the conversation with Roswaal.
Ep. 10. Subaru went in the same night to Ryuzu's Temple.
e) now back to the same rails. Subaru rests and wake up early to start his trip to the Mansion. Check.
f) In the morning of the 1st day after savingpoint:
Ep. 6. Subaru left the Sanctuary with Ram.
Ep. 10. Subaru left the Sanctuary alone.

So, they are now in the same day of Ep. 6.

The main difference:
- Subaru may have arrived a bit earlier because Patrasche was carrying less weight.
- Subaru hurried to dispatch Frederica and Petra from the mansion, before even enter in the house.

Next week we will discover if it was enough to save Petra, but if you have read the past chapters of the Light Novel, you know that Subaru already recognized that Elsa and Beast Master are around the Mansion waiting for the attack, that is why he will try to fight, and not flee together with Frederica and Petra.

Seeing the Witch of Envy looks just like Emilia is eerie.

Anyway, that face-off between Garfiel and Subaru proves that at the end of the day, Subaru had it worse. I cannot wait to see what event will unfold at the mansion.

TLDR: Garfield is still doubting Subaru's intention cause he suspect Subaru as Greed's lackey. Then Subaru said: "I've been thru hell" just like he did to Wilhelm in season 1. Same scenario, same problem solving.

I guess I should have been more specific. I meant the part where he had Subaru up against the tree and Subaru just smiled at him and Garfiel lets him go.

The entire "I love you"/"Love me" scene was pretty creepy. I doubt anyone would want to be put in that situation no matter how beautiful the witch may be.

Again, another well done episode, but I am still getting an irritated feeling of how the episodes just move back and forth between locations, the sanctuary and the mansion, and not much is added in-between. Even though people have told me that this arc is two cours, and not just one, I feel like that just adds to my point a couple of episodes ago: That it is being stretched out. Even more so to fit a two cour show. Even if the light novel was also this stretched out, the anime is able to take liberties to condense the story if they wanted to. Maybe it is just the weekly factor. When I saw the first season, it was in a binge, so maybe I didn't notice if the pace felt too slow. But this season, which I obviously am watching weekly, the plot progression, while there, feels too slow. It has been ten episodes but it feels like it could have all fit into five episodes.

Maybe after the show ends and I am able to binge it, then I can see if I have the same problem with the pacing as I did with watching it weekly.

I will say this though: This show is really good at building mysteries that viewers can be invested in.

I am somewhat curious about how you would want to fit it all into 5 episodes without sacrificing a lot of the content or the consistency of the story. A key point of this arc is gradually piecing together several mysteries surrounding the Sanctuary and the characters. This comes about as things are revealed, one hint after another through the changes in the events, the attitudes and actions of the characters over several resets. Each reset triggers Subaru's actions in the next, and provides clues on which we and he can build to uncover more. But you can not really merge the iterations or omit major elements without disrupting the logical progression.

You can't omit too many scenes without sacrificing key content and disrupting the consistency of the plot. (As a side note, Arc 3 originally had one more reset for the fight against the Witch Cult, and Subaru wasn't quite as perfectly prepared right after the first failure as we have seen, but there the version we have watched still made sense. Here, with many plot threads that are at first seemingly disjointed, but have multiple interacting elements and come together later on, all of them need to progress at the appropriate pace, and so it isn't as simple.)

You also cannot condense particular scenes too much, or risk severely reducing the impact in the best case, or again making things feel disjointed in the worst. In general, dialogue-heavy stories like the majority of Arc 4 are much harder to condense than action scenes because it takes about as much time to read as it takes to show, you need to include all the key information, and all of this needs to be connected to form something that is a believable conversation (and also convey other nuances like the general personality and mood of the speaker), not disjointed rambling. In contrast, an action-heavy scene that takes up a whole chapter can potentially be done with in pretty short order because a lot of the information described can be conveyed visually, with many elements shown in parallel.

It is possible that knowing where it is all going is easing the burden of watching weekly and makes me appreciate many small details much more, though it also adds the aspect that I can't wait to get to certain parts and see them animated. I didn't have an issue with the pacing of season 1, but I can appreciate the more thorough adaptation style seen in season 2, especially having read the story and expecting to see it all.

That was the whole point of what he was saying there. It was the handkerchief, which was shining and was capable of cutting because of what Echidna had done to it (because she presumably knew the Witch of Envy would be angry and Subaru might need it).

I'm a bit confused about that hankerchief. How the hell did it turn into a blade for Subaru to kill himself with? Is it cause of what Echidna did? She said she's gonna mess with it a little, so she gave it the power to transform into a blade? Hm, weird.

I don't know what they are talking about in the entire series and what is the connection of echidna, Emilia and satella, cuz they all look almost identical, In the first season I almost believed that the Echidna was the real antagonist in the series but now it turns out that it was satella, really I'm little clueless here about the story can anyone explain me why Echidna killed all other other witchies and what kind of role is she even playing in the series, I'm really not getting it and why satella, echidna and Emilia look almost so similar especially emila and satella,

dude, have you paid any attention at all during the first season? Satella is the witch of envy who killed all the other witches and gave subaru the power of Return by Death and is the one who love him. Echidna is the witch of greed and she didn't show up in season 1 at all. Satella is the antagonist, Echidna is not (at the moment). And the reason why Emilia looks like Satella is still a mystery. Also, they do bare an resemblance to Echidna but you should still be able to tell them apart from their colors, design, and clothing.

basically Subaru points out that Garfield was lying, because if he really had the witch scent on him, why Garfield didn't react with hostility when he got out of the tomb?.

He puts that in front of him, basically telling him that he's not scared of his strength.

you didn't get it. This last one was not an inminent death, it was eternal torment waiting for him, a literal hell.

Satella was planning to kept him in that shadow realm forever, saying "I love you" eternally.

THAT's why he was scared, because if he had let his mind let go, he could have been trapped there forever, with not means to reset the world.

That's the point of the name of the episode.

The stare scene could be interpreted as:

-Subaru says stuff trying to make Garf mad

-Garf gets mad

-Subaru smirk at the end is a way of saying "now I know how to make you mad"

-Garf notices and calls out his insanity for trying to test him that way.

When Subaru said to Satella he would have an easier time loving the other witches...BRUH.. Did you just really say that to the person that gave you your ability to "stay alive"? Is it truly wise to piss her off even more? If not for Echidna's suicide handkerchief you would have been trapped in the shadow realm forever lol.

Also sneaky sneaky Echidna pulling shenanigans... I understand now why she is chaotic neutral.

I thought we would get a concrete answer if Emilia was really possessed or not but since Subaru said he will save her that probably confirms it I guess. I wonder if Emilia was somewhat conscious during the process, if yes, good thing it's a new loop already....

Subaru's character is the way he is on purpise. He really doesn't start to grow until after Emilia abandons him in the capital when they go back. Its after the stress of all the deaths over and over that start to change his character and we finally see him start to grow up. Remember he's still an 18 year old kid. (Yes I said that) furthermore even though he starts growing as a person he's still himself. At the begining of season 1 it physically hurts to watch Subaru. Its not until part way through this 1st cour of season 2 I feel like he has grown enough to not be quite so cringing stupid.

I digress. His character is a major part of the story if he wasn't such an idiot this show wouldn't be as good as it has been. We wouldn't believe him when he thinks he's in a game world if he were less of a moron and the show would suffer for it.

Undeserved scoring and hype, albeit the underlying story is still worth something, the overlayed flood of random small-talk and unnatural emotions is frustrating since you can't empathize continuously.

This criticism is so stupid. You don't just "get numb" over the acting of dying repeatedly. Dying isn't a pleasant experience no matter how it ends up happening, and Subaru not only has to die in some of the most gruesome ways possible, he also has to live with the memories of each of those deaths. I don't see how you can even argue that he should be perfectly fine mentally.

Yas, next amazing episode

As always lot of new info, some things are confirmed, and next questions arrived.

1. How i have been saying and we got confirmation, Emilia is some kind of vessel for Satella as she showed up when Subaru wasn't there to wake her up from trial (something what happend there could stress her out and possible was triggered by it) and Satella rised from shadow just in front of entrance

About ASMR part, some time ago, Rie Takahasi in discussion about ASMR in anime said that it's still not really popular and wish to see it more from now on. After last episode i was sure we are going to get more and damn the chills are real! :D

When he was eaten by shadow, until later scene with him talking about it, i didn't realize those were actually memories of other people. Tried to slowly rewatch it but i didn't find anything interesting there but maybe someone had better eye.
Also suprising way of Petra's present helping Subaru, but i guess this one goes to Echidna

2. Ryuzu.. i was suprised for her "big reveal" so fast, i was sure we will have to wait to undertand what she is. I'm still not sure what that knowledge gives us and if it might be connected to Emilia. But original Ryuzu is suppoused to be vessel for Echidna but Emilia seems to be vessel for Sattela, are they connected? really have no idea and hopes someone have any theory.... like big plot twist and Satella and Echidna are same person :P idk~

PS.guardian in white Ryuzu was so cute holding Subaru's clothes

3. Why Puck isn't here? I feel like he is not telling us way too much. I'm still wondering why but only one thing that fits is because he knew about the rabbits. Probably the only way to lure it will be to use Roswaal's power, but to at least give us time (as his power/mana quanity is probably much greater), he went offline mode or just leaved her for now. But still couldn't he is freeze Rabbits? :v

4. Garfiel... A little suprise he showed up again but kind of not. I'm wondering what Subaru said to him (i doubt some cliche word like calling him a friend like Otto did :P) that made him jump off and chill suddenly. Anyway it looks like from next episode or so, Garfiel will be on our side

PS. That's why i watch these types of anime. Beautiful moment when main character says some cool stuff confirming something, some truth, some expierience, proof of his determination and everything he went trough when interlocutor for first time without understanding what he is talking about, he sense truth in his words. Moment when we as viewer can connect to protagonist more than second person as we experienced advetures with him

5. Mansion... Frederica seemed nice, but again i still can't get rid of feeling that she might not be that good and possible even could cooparate with Elsa. Also wasn't she a little too easy to convince to leave mansion? She was hired by Roswaal and this time Subaru came alone without even Ram and she listened to him just like that?

Date with Petra!!!! Probably most important scene from the episode haha

BEATRICE... was my theory just confirmed? When entering room Subaru said that this time he came because of different reason. Beatrice didn't look like she wouldn't know what he is talking about, so could it be that she really can remember changes in the book of wisdom or something like this? That would explain why Roswaal knows about Subaru's RbD or at least have some idea about it even if not knowing exactly how it works. Subaru finally realized that and said it straight to her.
But also that would strengthen my opinion that Elsa's master is Roswaal as only he and Beatrice have both copies of book of wisdom (unless there is one more they just don't know about ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ).

The pact Beatrice was talking about... how Subaru is going to end it? And with who it is? With Roswaal? But she specified really long one so it could be really pact with Echidna. As Roswaal family serves and protects Echidna, she could order to help his family and protect the biggest library. But how is it going to end? By taking down the barrier around Sanctuary and possibly releasing Echidna?

So as a non novel reader,

i woudn't be surpiresed if Emilia is indeed satella, but before she gone mad for some reason, maybe because subaru failed somehow.

or maybe she is emilia from another time ( If stories )
where subaro indeed failed, and thuse she was born,

as witches do live the time not linearly as everyone else, it doesn't sound crazy if the WITCH satella was created in the future and for some reason want back in time to do everything she has done.

also would make more sense why she is in love with subaro, but then it would beg the question how the hell subaro got there in the first loop.

woke up today seeing such a huge reaction on Reddit to this episode had me thinking shit was popping off non stop outside the first few mins it was surprisingly more chill with a lot of info drops still overall decent episode subaru really had a line that only he could say dead as seriously at the end there.

though that scene has me questioning more people now do they know too?

refusing to believe Emilia and Satella are the same that seems too predictable from the start there'd have to be more to it than that but it's strange how 3 of the witches look too much alike

god, these episode are genuinely getting better and better as it nears to the end. Satella's whole deal rn really gives me the shivers, but ohohoh she did not like Subaru admitting that another witch was better then her, nope she fucking YOINKED him the minute he called Echidna the better witch. Echidna's save as well was good, that situation Subaru was in, could that one be considered a game ender for him? Dosen't look like Satella was gonna release him anytime soon, and he was pretty much immobile.

Real interesting reveals of Ryuuzu true being and identity, as well as hinting at maybe some big later coming Garfiel lore drops.

Honestly, this episode was really good at showing the more bad-ass, thoughtful planning and connecting the dots side of subaru that has been, really developing these recent episodes. Like after Garfiel's little out burts, and Subaru just looking him dead in the eye and saying "I'm the only one who needs to know hell" ooooow now this, this i'll give him. That was a fucking line and a half especially from Subaru, on god that has to be one of the hottest lines in the book.

Petra suddenly wanting a date was unexpected but extremely cute, happy to see where that goes.

That last Beatrice scene felt, extremely reflective and peaceful? Like two friends who haven't seen each other for years, who've both gone through some shit, just sit down once again and have a chat like the old times.

Ep. 10, summarized.

It is time to get a taste of your own medicine, Subaru.

(btw, the Director's Cut version will have a lot of work with this season)

The anime kinda left out the part in which
But that could've been cut out for suspense and to be revealed later. This season has been amazing.

Was expecting the episode to end on Subaru's "I know hell", ended being a full episode without even a transition after the last second.
And such a last second!

And that's another week to wait, sigh.

This passage of the Light Novel (not spoiler, already covered by this ep) about that Satella Jealousy rampage can make more clear:

---------------

At this moment, the "VALID" timeline of Season 2 for Subarow is:

Ep. 1 - From zero to 03m.45s, 04m.12s to 10m.54s and from 14m.20s forwards (almost complete).

Ep. 2 - Complete.

Ep. 3 - Complete.

Ep. 4 - Complete.

Ep. 5 - From zero to 05m.55s only.

*(jump)

Ep. 10 - From 4m.46s to end.

Holly Moth*ucker, it is the longest sequence of "erased" episodes of all the series until this moment.

I guess i will prepare a Rob's Cut version of season 2, for people who dont like Time Loop tropes. :D The best Re:Zero experience.

Btw, i guess it is obvious that this was the last time Subaru returned to Tomb Checkpoint.

damn Satella still going with her ASMR lol what a way to start an episode, and she really looks like Emilia. i dont know many people arguing that wasnt Satella but Emilia possessed by her and yet her dress and hairclip is different than Emilia's

interesting stuff with Ryuzu and we are going back to the mansion again.

to the LN readers, are we going to see Satella again in this part 1 after this episode? she really got me excited

Keep this on your mind satella/witch of envy is sealead not dead, the others witchs them yes they are very dead the only thing thats remnant of satella is her spirit wich we can say that subaru as a piece of it, we were already told that somehow emilia is a good vessel for satella!so...

yeah im aware that Satella isnt dead and sealed, but what i want to know was that Satella's true appearance? with that dress and hairclip? i know she and Emilia are look alike.

and i want to know will satella come back soon in this part?

anyway i have a question, why satella didnt stop subaru when he is about to kill himself? she was on top of him

Hype energy is low, but we're getting the dialogue-showcase going on which is still enjoyable since we're getting to know more characters' personality and information.

This episode feels like it needs to take a breather from the very hype episodes.

Overall, Subaru is getting more mature than who he was in S1

The episode was decent, I don't understand 2 things:

1: When Garfiel was holding Subaru in the end, Subaru kinda smirked and Garfiel freaked out and let him go, I have no idea why that smirk got Garfiel react that way, Subaru still had the witch stench in him so Garfiel should have thrown him to jail but then again, the reason he got thrown to jail was not because of the witch stench, it was the combination of the witch stench and Subaru wanting to undergo Emilia's trial.

2: If those purple haired lolis are on Subaru's side and would do what Subaru commanded them to do then why did one of them betrayed Subaru? Garfiel and 1 of those copies jailed Subaru, that copy should be opposed to it but she had no problem in working with Garfiel to jail him, did she betrayed Subaru because he wanted to undergo Emilia's trial as well?
