well if there's anything i got out of this episode, it's that the shaky cam made kino's death hilarious.

[quote=aLotQuestion]Although everyone is still feeling for Kino(Sakura)'s backstory, but IMO, I just feel sad for the Adult Kino.

Although his worthiness is saving Sakura but his death is doesn't worth it for me.

He just die like that without his own story.

IS THAT JOJ- nvm xD

Sometimes I feel like they forgot to put bgm in this anime

It's nice to see this episode again.. With different animation and voices
Especially the Original Kino, he looked more modern guy with that hair xD

Nothing special for me I guess, the impact is kinda less on me
The background art though <3

This should have been episode 12. I really liked how this episode helped us figure out “Kino” a littler more. Things make sense now.

They changed kino appearance completely (the real kino)
Or is it the right one based on the LN?

This was one of the stronger episodes of this new series for me. So of course it's a retread of the origin story right at the end. I can't in good faith say it was better than the 03 series version. But I found its differences interesting. Like slight changes in original Kino's appearance. And that the moral majority leader in the 03 series was depicted like an SS officer. But here is a faux-kindly Priest.

I also really respected its clever use of color. How the inside of the city seems dull and drab. With the exception of Lil Kino's brightly colored dress and ribbon. And then once she escapes it's a veritable stepping into Oz. Flooding of color. And last but not least I thought the song was very pretty. And they used it to good effect. They might not have decisively topped it. But they certainly did a nice version of this story with their own spin on it.

Didn't recognize the title of the finale. Curious if it's one I've seen before.

I feel a little disconnect in the eye/hair color for this anime. We have seen Kino with green eyes and hair but in this backstory is portrayed with purple eyes and hair. Idk if I'm overlooking something.

I think its just that they purposefully applied a tint over that episode to make her hair and eye colour different, so that it would be more impactful when they reveal the girl to be actually Kino.

there is no real description of his appearance in the LN (just the "skinny" part) and no illustrations. But his appearance resembles the design from one of the two current manga adaptation.

Really lovely backstory, it's interesting they'd showed it this late in the series but on the other side it is really lovely to see it here as well!

Very lovely episode! Looking forwards for the last one of this series!

gosh i cant believe i still remember this story line of past kino....

BTW: all ppl think that her real name is hinted to be sakura cuz of the girl from the previous episode..
but in this one its clearly heavily hinted that her name must be TSUBAKI... (the flowers around her and in the field are the crimzon flower hahah)

Wow. Young Kino with long hair is cute.

Nice backsory. That's one insane country she lives in. Sad that original Kino dies, but but in return the new Kino was saved to live another day. Also, thanks to Hermes as well in escaping.

I can't remember if the OG anime had Kino smile at the end as well, with blood on her cheek. That ending kinda killed any tension I had and was kinda unrealistic. She just witnessed someone saving her and getting killed and she's all smiles. Meh. Only in anime, I guess.

I know I've been ragging on the new Kino series for not living up to the 2003 version, but I definitely prefer the way this one handled Kino's backstory. This is one of my favorite stories from Kino's Journey and I'm so glad that I could get a retelling that even surpasses the original. I loved the exchange between Kino & Old Kino, particularly when they sang to each other. Their voices were very down to Earth and made it feel like such an organic moment. I legit jumped when the parents started freaking out. The whole atmosphere and coloring of that scene was suffocatingly intense. But I think my favorite moment had to be when Kino escaped and the vast world stretched out before her. It captured the sensation of pure freedom.

This is also my favorite scenario because of how it plays with the theme of what it means to become an adult. I first saw this episode back when I was in high school, so it hadn't really sunk in what it meant to be an adult yet. As I become older, it's easier to want to just conform and stick with the status quo. However, I think I really do just want to be myself. No matter how old I am or where that takes me, I'm simply me.

Easily one of this show's best episodes. Almost good enough to redeem the rest of the show. The last few eps have been better than the first half of the season tbh...good think I stuck with it. Now I really want to watch the 2003 version again.
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

The Land/Country of Adults sure is f*cked up as with any other countries in Kino's world.

Wonder what here original name was before she took old Kino's name.
You see there's no need to wonder where your god is,
Coz he's right here! ...and he's fresh out of mercy.

I love this episode of Kino's origin and background. The story is sad; how unfortunate that we never learnt much about the original Kino except for his kindness and self-sacrifice. At least this episode reveals or at least hints at why Kino now carries firearms.

Why are Kino's eyes purple in this episode when they're green in most others? Although when checking, I found that they're blue in episodes 4 and 6, and both in episode 9 across its different segments! What a weird thing not to be consistent.

That country is a dangerous place to live. I wonder why Original Kino death isn't more sadder. I don't feel nothing.

Man but how amazing, this episode in this version is much better than the old one, the characters are much more charismatic, I think this episode becomes better coming after the last episode because it shows the duality that Kino has with Sakura, in the childhood of Kino she was forced to become an adult and inherit her parents' inn, whereas Sakura's inn she wanted to inherit on her own.
In this episode, the death of the Original Kino was much more coherent, seen by the short distance that the characters were, in the first version it is very bad, it seems that Kino was injured.
This version is a masterpiece, it really happens that the world is beautiful regardless of the evil that inhabits it, in the other version he was just ugly and fuck it.

PT-BR

This episode was nearly perfect, telling a story of Kino's past in a really smart way. I didn't actually realize it was Kino's backstory until the adult Kino was stabbed, because before that I believed he was some fraud version of the real Kino. Only downside is the hair and eye color, which is portrayed as purple rather than green as usual. Overall the storytelling and concepts were well executed, 9/10.

I really loved how this episode delved deep into the main character's backstory, so the plot had a lot more weight to it. I think it suffers from the overall problem in Kino's Journey though that all the characters are either black or white. Either they have open minds like Kino and the traveller or are ideological zealots of their country like the adults in this episode. You rarely find characters that disagree with their country's viewpoint, or a country with a pluralistic ideology, so a lot of the countries, including this one, felt unrealistic or exaggerated, like a self-insert of the author's more cynical viewpoints on how people follow the herd mentality.

You can really tell kino is a girl when she sings lol

But I thought the small back story with her master who trained her was nice. But this. This was a GREAT back story.
