Great episode, it looks like the story is gonna go the way I hoped

I really appreciate that the characters are actually smart enough to figure out whats going on pretty quickly

TBH the action didn't really do anything for me this episode. It was a'ight, but not as good as last episode and most certainly not up to the standards I set for the action in a Gundam series.

Loved this episode all the same though. The characters are already all very likeable and starting to be fleshed out, and Orga in particular is awesome. The politics is already beginning to be elaborated upon a bit too, which is good. Honestly, this basically feels like what Aldnoah.Zero could have been if A.Z didn't screw up its presentation.

The ED is really cool too.

You guys are overreacting lol

Since gundam manly theme is basically war, the drama is expected, i think than is well executed so far.
I think they're overreacting as well but the crying scene was pretty cringe.

Same here. The acoustic played in the background was excellent as well. The calmness echoed their sadness of losing their friends.

One thing I did notice is that the expressions of the characters and the way they have been captured. If anything, the screenplay has been of top notch in the first two episodes, probably the best of the year (which included the likes of Hibike Euphonium and Death Parade, two other shows that excelled in that department in 2015).

I liked their interactions alot more cause mika wasnt as robotic as he first came off as, i was worried he was just going to be inaho 2.0 after episode 1.

With the featuring of plates of döner kebabs in previous ep, that MC by name of Orga, plus the mention of the Calamity War... Keeps hinting me with a certain Gundam SEED ep, and that one druggie who happens to be named Orga that pilots Calamity Gundam. Kinda cool am definitely enjoying.

Having the cast actually have more personality and chemistry in this opening arc so far than the entire cast of Aldnoah showed in its entire run combined instead of just being concepts and plot devices seems like a great start. This show hopefully plans on being actually good instead of just relying on its staffs brand name power to carry it which it does have at this point though not to the ridiculous degree Aldnoah did and clearly banked everything on.

Both episodes were really good, I'm hooked on the OP and ED, good characters and character design, good action, good animation, good plot, good voice acting, good manservice hehe :p
I'm glad that people die! It makes it so much real. I'm honestly loving this. I've always heard good things about Mobile Suit Gundam, but were too lazy to check out.. now I finally did and I have nothing to complain about.

I am really enjoying this. For once, having a teenage pilot is entirely justified as the system requires a growing brain in order to operate properly. A wonderful way of making sure that having a kid piloting a mecha makes perfect sense.

The moments between Orga and Mika are truly golden and I hope Orga does not kick the bucket too soon.

I also appreciate that the space Princess, a recurring theme in Gundam, is actually an intelligent person this time around. As opposed to other Gundam Princesses.

The fact that the characters actually engage with their universe in trying to find a way to make the best of a very shitty situation is also very appealing. Going with child soldiers was brilliant even if not entirely original but at least Mika is not the second coming of Heero, nor Setsuna take two.

Why do you guys think Orga gonna die? He will be commanding from the bridge of a spaceship (which will include Eugene, Biscuit, Fumitan and Chadan). Mika and Akihiro are the two who will be piloting Mobile Suits — GUNDAM BARBATOS and GRAZE UPGRADE respectively, so if anything Akihiro will be at higher risk of getting his role reduced to shorter number of episodes for not being a protagonist. Unless of course he pilots another Gundam, either GUSION or KIMARIS later on in the series as the story progresses. But based on the designs of GUSHION and KIMARIS, they look more likely to be piloted by antagonists than protagonists so I am not ruling out the chance of either McGillis or Gaelio piloting either or both of them even though they have SCHWALBE GRAZEs for now.

Maybe I have seen too much Gundam but I very much doubt Orga will live to the end. He will probably play a huge role in the plot, will motivate Mika and co. to no end and will then die epically protecting everyone and even giving some final speech. Perhaps even echoing the 'what should I do next' line by telling Mika to follow his own will or something to that effect. And then Mika will have a 'ORGA!!!!' moment. The mentor type of character seems to suffer this fate very often.

And sure, technically speaking Mika may be at a greater risk since he is on the actual frontline but he is the main character. He is plot-shielded unless this goes into an entirely different direction than usual. As for Akihito, color me blind if he doesn't kick the bucket.

You don't know how impressed I would be if Mika is the one who dies and Orga is the one left to deal with it. In a way it seems that both of them depend on each other to a great extent, so it could definitely work both ways.

I would much prefer if it went this way, it'd be unexpected and have a lot of potential for character development. Unfortunately I find it very unlikely as the plot-shielding is strong in Mika. If he does die it will probably be at the very end.

If the enemy is out of fuel for his thrusters, why would they use that as a time to escape and not a time to get rid of him...?

If Orga's fate is already inscribed in a stone, then the long list of younger characters makes me wonder whether we can avoid a time skip or not. Just check out the gang in the opening conveniently following Takaki around and then we have the Cookies and the Crackers. Just speculating.

I can see the great plot which will soon bless us.

Orga and Mikazuki will lead a great and just rebellion which will shake history, but both will also pay a grave price in order to achieve it.

Mikazuki with his health and Orga with his mental and emotional sanity all due to the burden of being a leader.

Each battle resulting in more losses among their comrades both new and old. This will heavily burden them both. they will face many situations where they will question why they even began their rebellion, but yet they persevere all in order to achieve their goal of finding a place to belong not just for themselves but for all who have no one to rely on. but at what price will the Utopia come at?

Please let this be the more realistic version of Code Geass with all the heartbreak and bloodshed but minus the magical eyes.

I like the Gundam name as well. Barbatos is an interesting name choice. I wonder what the etymology of the name is.

That aside, Orga's idea seems pretty rational if you ask me. They're going to die with the current leadership as it is. Better to go out gaining freedom rather than as a pawn for people that don't even give a damn about you.

Indeed. They did a good job making me believe the idea of a coup to be a reasonable and rational step to take, given the circumstances.

A time-skip might be difficult given that it's a 25 episode long run (unless they add another cour) and since it seems Gundams in this universe can only be piloted by developing children, a bit like the Fafner units in the eponymous anime. Would be possible if they did promote the kids into pilots and/or changed the Gundam's settings but I find a time-skip doubtful.

And Ein seems to be on his way to becoming the mandatory masked man.

Actually is the cockpit system than can be only used with those "whiskers"(than can be implanted on developing children).

And they have been using this freaking monster as a power generator. But anyways, I still see the chance of a time-skip, given that Gundam seasons are usually 49-52 episodes.

Speaking of which (even though he is not blond, so I think McGillis would make more sense, but yeah) I just noticed one thing and it could entirely be me: Doesn't Barbatos' horns look awfully lot like a certain masked-man's mask? Hint: UC timeline.

Glad to see one of few positive points in G-Reco, attention to detail, is done very well here. Showing the aftermath of war, wounded, scrap recollection. Cannot cut the spine connect when unconscious, which may imply emergency ejection is impossible.
Philosophical ideals between Mika & Orga, & social class/children issues with Hime & Crank. Hime suspecting father's scheme.
Mika: "Majide, yamete!" Lol that was a funny line.
Barbatos: ground battle > space battle any day. Mika does think tactically by trampling on fleeing mobile workers simultaneously take em as hostage to prevent getting shot, despite being gar & modestly saying he doesn't use his brain much.
Orga & Crank feel like death flag magnets.

Episode constructive, but also engaging. Pleasant narration not too watered down and tasteless. The plot seems to have meshed well, rhythm and script are good. Drawings on enough, you can do better if you will, sets and props beautifully produced, color design and costume design not just beautiful according to my tastes. The mechanical design of Barbatos is pretty, but I preferred the style seen in SEED.

I know right? Laughed my fucking ass off when that line came.

I thouroughly enjoyed this episode as well. Orga slowly solidifying his position as my favorite character, great interactions between him and his bff Kami... errr I mean Mika. I'm really fond of the design of Barbatos, and the explanations about how the "Whiskers" work made sense (still feels like an excuse to show us some tasty 6-packed shirtless bishounen, tho. Not that I mind hehe)
Special mention for the soundtrack, which is fucking gorgeous: the placement is always on point and even when the BGM is very subdued you can still hear the sheer quality of it.

Very solid episode overall.
