Well I'm definitely not in love with this first episode like everyone else is, but I thought it was pretty solid overall.

I'm going to try to avoid comparing this to other gundam shows I've seen haha.

I LOVED THIS EPISODE. I think that it will be at least 24-26 ... Something like Gundam Seed. So far every Gundam anime has at least 25 episodes, unless it's an OVA. The design of the characters, the animation, the seiyuus EVERYTHING IS AMAZING. Can't wait for the next episode. The design of the GUNDAM is INSANE.

I think aina is more of a dianna sorriel type character with her being royalty trying to understand the common people as well as attempting to bridge together two societies at war with one another, just not as strong willed as dianna was. I consider that a good thing cause dianna is probably my favorite gundam girl, not like there are many good ones but she was actually a fantastic character.

I haven't seen Turn A (I think that's the one she's from?), but yeah, I'm getting that type of feeling with Aina. I think she's a interesting character so far, and part of what makes her that way is because she's at an influential position with good intention, yet she doesn't understand the full situation (and neither do we as the audience).

Just noticed you got your username back

yeah shes from turn-A, though dianna was alot stronger willed and more aware of things going on while aina has alot of learning to do about the world around her which is interesting enough for me, Turn-A is one of my favorite gundams thanks in large part to dianna and also the fact that its probably the most ungundam gundam in the franchise, definitely recommend giving it a watch one day, and yeah got the old username back, someone took it with an alt account but whatever i just find that funny that someone would even bother.

One minute into this and it was already better than G no Reconguista lol

This is the Gundam series that I wanted ever since I got done with 00....Absolutely brilliant

The action scenes were on point, art and animation were solid and the music especially when the Gundam showed up was pretty freaking awesome

The characters were all awesome and man the MC is a beats lol...His older brother figure is a badass too and the main female is cute and I like that she isn't totally a standard princess and actually wanted to like help and shit

Great episode overall...I wonder who's gonna be the Char of this series though

Right, pretty good first episode, but let's not all jump to conclusions. However long it may be, it'll probably need a few episodes to set up it's themes and story arcs in regular gundam fashion. Good riddance for some good old non-CG mecha though, it improves any series substantially. Interesting to see that the mobile workers are apparently a legitimate weapon seeing as gjallarhorn uses them, not something to just get stomped in the first episode and disappear forever.

Now, can someone explain why everyone is comparing this to aldnoah zero? I see very little similarities aside from "Mars" (which is no more than a word) and that it has...mecha? Maybe there just haven't been a lot of shows in this genre lately.

For now i'm just hoping we'll see some good characters, a good main conflict (can anyone remember the last time they did that right?) and some not-completely-OP mechas.

The directer/original creator would never have this as a 12/13 episodes show. It'll be 25 episodes no doubt. Especially for this type of gundam.

As for the episode, everything I wanted.

BD portfolio confirms it as 25 so far that should run straight through into next year. The potential for a second season or movie followup is always there if it is deemed successful enough by the powers that be.

It would be nice if people could see the true potential of Gundam and what it is about it that made it into my favourite anime franchise. He'll at this point it'd be neat to see something other that utter revulsion. The franchise needs to start making more new fans worldwide if it wants to last another 40 years. I see the wisdom in getting a team that has fairly consistently connected with young adults after going for the younger audience with Build Fighters but naturally I worry about Okadas potential to get a little too heavy handed as things go on. Can't complain much about the first episode really, it was nice to see Gar still present in Gundam.

For posterity and because I think it will be necessary and without being so forceful that I'd need to change my name to Gundampriest Gundam has been around since 1979 which means it predates pretty much every anime still known today by a long shot and is easily the longest lasting most prolific anime franchise outside of the standards like Doraemon and Sazae-San that are made for small children. Sazae-San started in the 60s and Doraemon started in the same month and year as Gundam (April 1979) but has been running largely unbroken since except when the original staff decided to pass the torch to new staff in 2005 when it went off the air for a few months

Is he actually voiced by the same guy? Anyway from UBW 1 (Still havent seen part 2) I can't really see why he has that label since he doesnt seem to embody any of the values I associate with Gar at all. Traitorous Nihilistic douchebag seems more apt. Its funny cause I don't remember him being that bad in Deens Fate route. Orga in any case seems like the kind of guy that might want to try and do things his own way at some point and I'm not sure how that's going to go. I just see him coming into conflict with the others or Mikazuki at some point.

You do know the term GAR originated only from some guy in 4chan making a typo saying "I'm gay for archer". Its not anything that really warrants a real definition or application to labeling characters, its pretty much only a joke

Oh wow, this was amazing. I haven't seen such a great first Gundam episode since 00. The action was great, the characters have potential and the child soldier angle really lends itself to a Gundam series. It's a very viable way of showing just how crappy Gundam settings can be.

This was a mix of Turn A and 00, which is all good in my book. Let us just forget Reconguista ever happened.

Orga reminded me of Akio, it's just the visuals...and that's a good thing.

also cause my download didnt have the visuals, heres what the opening looks like, they did a great job with the visuals matching the song and oh man were those fight scenes fucking great looking

I re-watched it and I was trying to figure out what exactly was Gjallarhorn's goal in this attack. On one hand the guy meeting with the girl's father implied they were going to make her a martyr but moving along a little more he implied that they were going to help her.. yet the use of force on the base seemed pretty reckless if that was the case. The older guy also implied they were there to capture the princess when he said "Why did you open fire? Our objective is.." then was cut off and told to go retrieve it if it was so important. Yet I don't understand the purpose of this retrieval, since it would have been easier for the father to simply give her up when she was at home. Basically, I don't understand the purpose of the operation.

Anyway maybe I'm over thinking it but I'm bored and just typing shit out, hopefully everything is cleared up in the next few episodes.

This first episode was freaking awesome! I haven't watched a Gundam series fully before but I'll definitely be following this one until it ends. I'm loving the main cast of characters so far. Orga's a really cool and confident leader. His relationship with Mikazuki seems like they really trust each other after being together since they were young. Mikazuki piloting that Mobile Suit Gundam at the end was badass. The royal princess Kudelia Aina Bernstein blushing was cute, I hope she isn't just a damsel in distress kind of character though.

I'm absolutely loving the OST in this anime already, especially during the fight scenes. Thank god the mecha/gundams aren't in CG. <3 The OP by MAN WITH A MISSION is so darn catchy too, raise your flag~ Can't wait for more Iron-Blooded Orphans!

I can't help but prefer for Orga to be the one piloting the Mobile Suit :/ Mika seems like the cliched calm/cool character, and he's probably going to be the one to get the girl too. It being slow was a given, but the exposition and dialogue were mediocrely delivered, namely characters telling each other things they already know with little reason. It was really on the nose in terms of presenting the conflict's meaning and thematic approach the show's going for visually and narratively ("look how shitty they have it", "damn adults", "they are a symbol of the movement"). Subtlety goes a long way. The editing itself and presentation of scenes seemed off e.g. a close up of the Princess's profile to show her reaction to Mika's comment, but it stops in the middle of her eye despite the emphasis of her reaction being put on her eyes.

Not too good of a start but it'll probably get better. 5.5/10. For those mentioning G-Reco, hopefully this show can get as good as it.

I also suspect this. They made the main character look like the demographic, highschool looking Japanese boy who has a "cool" personality (in other words a boring introvert if we're comparing to real life). Hopefully orga doesn't get killed here

This was my first Gundam and boy did it start off on a high note. Great action, great animation; they didn't take too long to get us to know about the characters which was good. Let's see how it goes from here.

lol! I myself was not an adult, but luckily old enough to appreciate the mid-90's dream of giant robot. True, that even gundam has a garbage franchise such as seed, seed destiny, ang regongista. I don't know why people so receptive toward this, but i personally assume that the first generation to vividly shows their interest towards japanese animation industry globally comes from this kind of signature anime, specifically mecha. Now that anime industry has been majorly occupied by erotic themed animation and moe bullcrap, meanwhile the first generation has grow their sense of realism and understanding towards fiction. An appearance of this specific show brings back nostalgia, at the same time arrouse the interest of these people who grows tired of ridiculous placement of fan service and looking for serious an anime that could contending their apetite for serious anime, thus i like this shit.
