----------------------------------------
Pretty good episode
Followed the manga mostly .
removed two or three things I wished they would have added , but oh well.
Either way , this was mostly a " how and why " episode.
Showed why and how the brother came to be how they are.
with Ed seeing the Truth .
then Roy meeting the brothers
Ed vowing to take 1 year to recover and him consequently being able to transmute without Circles thanks to him having seen "IT" ( and Al not remembering).
And finally Ed's Exam to become a state alchemist , where he promtly attacked Bradly who told him he still doesn't know the world xD.
Thus showing how the fuhrur gave Ed an "ironic" name : the FullMetal Alchemist.

Next week , they goin' to Liore/Reole ~

oh , and the score was pretty darn awesome. Akira Senju delivers !!

After this episode it was something like: woah!
Everything was happening so fast but I liked it, I don’t really mind this pace. Aw, there was The Truth guy~! This scene with him in the gate was great. Al’s face after Ed’s ‘cute comment’ to Winry – priceless. When Al was saying 'I'm sorry' to Roy I felt like crying...
I’m happy there is so many things from manga. But it’s a shame there won’t be this scene where Ed is asking Roy why he didn’t rushed to help Bradley… BGM is amazing, yeah when it comes out, I need to get OST...
I can't really say much now since I don't understand japanese so....Waiting for subs ^^

Anyway, flashback was great, next episode – Lior.

Summary of the episode: The Truth guy pwns you all! xD

Looks like they're not following the manga's storyline...the Lior episode should have been ep 2...but it looks like they've started the story from part way through Chapter 23 Knocking On Heaven's Gate till the end of Chapter 24 Fullmetal Alchemist..the previews showed the beginning of the Lior arc. I hope that's all the back and forth there's going to be...

- Damn, Trisha died really fast.
- Winry and Riza chat, ftw.
- They kept Edward attacking the fuhrer, woot!
- Pretty accurate to the manga, wow. <3
- Did I mention they kept the Riza and Winry chat?!?!??! ❤

I think they're rushing through the things that already were in the previous anime, they just don't want to repeat scenes. I think when it'll come to the events that are only in the manga (at least now) they'll change pace to the slower one.

Yeah I'm thinking they will go really fast on events that have already been animated , then slow the pace once they reach manga material that never made it to the screen before.

Very good episode, I like how they got the human transmutation and application for the title of State Alchemist out of the way early, and now it's on to Lior. Which was awesome.

Holy speeding up, Batman. Although, since we've all seen this before even in the first series, I can't blame them... But some scenes are so simbolic. It's been a while since I read those chapters, but I wonder... Oh well, it's not like I'm going to start complaining already. I'm just going to have to trust BONES, and that's not hard to do.

Man, just by seeing Trisha my eyes filled with tears... And Paku Romi. Why are you so perfect as Edward?

"I'll give you my leg, my body, my soul! But please give me my brother back! He's my only brother!"

Tears. Simply... Made my heart race.

wow they just summed up like the first 10 episodes from the first series into one, but im trying not to compare the two too much. There are several things I would have liked to see again and some I'm glad didn't happen but I didn't read the manga so idk. Hopefully they'll slow it down a little soon.

Like I said last week, no matter how many times I watch it, the past of the Elric brothers always seem to make my eyes water a bit. Regardless, loved the episode and am quite impressed at how they summing up their past quickly, yet effectively.

This episode was rather dull, when compared to the first one, mostly because I already knew everything that was going to happen. Though the part where the brothers try to revive their mother was done quite well.

Also, why is Rose white now? I thought she was supposed to be a different colour?

Unless that doesn't happen in the manga. If so, ignore me. ^___^

they rushed the past story a bit too much, but at the same time sums up the key points of the past for people who havent seen fma before. so the presentation was done pretty well.

from the preview, looks like the story will be exactly like the manga. probably a bit rushed to move on with the story, but cant say for certain yet.

again. the pacing will probably be bumpy in the first few episodes, but should flow easier after a few episodes to get the backstory going.

well, this is probably because of not wanting to repeat exactly like the 1st season, but at the same time sums up the key points of the past for people who havent seen fma before. so the presentation was done pretty well.

You're confusing manga and the first anime here. The scenes included in the flashback followed the manga almost to a T.

I was worried that this would be too much like the other fullmetal alchemist anime which I watched last year and that it would be boring to watch something I just saw.. but this time around is actually pretty good and I think I'll keep watching it to see how it goes since I never read the manga..

hmm, that was strange.
dunno how i confused the anime with the manga. i remembered that scene to be on paper, not animated.
goes to show you how long it was i read the beginning chapters of fma.

Hmm, I kind of liked this episode. As someone not familiar with the manga, but with the first show, I liked some of the things that kind of explained Ed and Al with alchemy.

Thankfully, I'm now used to Paku Romi as Ed...I still think Vic Mignona is better. Maybe I'm the only one though.

Guess they aren't going for the emotional impact of the Elric's childhood experiences, but more for a quick background story this time around. I still loved how they executed this episode regardless, very well done.

The first episode was a disposable opener that served mainly to assure viewers that this was going to a different from the original series rather than a simple retread. Establishing elements of setting and character seemed more like an afterthought and often felt like the writers assumed the viewer came in with that knowledge already. Not really the best policy to have when you're creating a new television adaptation that's supposed to have its own independent identity.

This second episode does well to go back and establish the background of the Elric brothers as it played out in the manga, complete with Ed's encounter with the "Truth." Unfortunately, rather than tell the story properly and at an appropriate pace, the writers either can't bring themselves to or aren't allowed to forget that this was all covered in the previous adaptation.

As a result the show rushes through everything so quickly that very little (beyond the rather well done scene with Ed and Al's failed human transmutation) actually sticks. Trisha Elric is introduced and killed off with such carelessness that the viewer doesn't have the chance to get a handle on her as a character or even to understand the depth of the relationship the brothers have with their mother beyond their desire for her praise and the mere convenience of her role as their mother. Then there's the issue of Winry's parents. One scene they are acknowledged as being alive working abroad, the next, during Winry's conversation with Riza, they are dead. No moment between the two where news arrives, just a sudden shift from alive to dead.

The issue with Winry can be resolved fairly easily through flashbacks in a later episode, especially as the deaths of her parents hold greater significance later on. Also, it can be said that this episode was purely focused on the background of the Elrics with everything else being peripheral to that account. However, that does not excuse the utter failure to establish the relationship between the brothers and their mother, especially since that relationship, and their attempts to restore, is the whole reason the Elrics are in the mess that they're in.

Nicely done while sticking with the manga. It's only two eps in to decide which anime I'll prefer more. But yeah, the first anime's depiction of their past was more moving and was something that deeply impressed me where this didn't. So so far I'm still won over by the first anime...thus far.

This episode was really amazing and we got to see some of the most symbolic things in this series which made it a hit the first time. :) And im happy to see that they added the scene where Edward attacks the furher. XD The music in the background at that point was amazing!! :) The story was retold but with better details.

Overall it was awesome,I was afraid when I heard there was a new FMA XD; But,BONES did not let us down it seems. w00t.

The first thing that came to my mind after watching this episode was: "Woah, they added nothing I haven't seen. Great!"
It really reminded me of the manga and it doesen't matter, that the order is changed. I guess, they just don't want to do a copy of the first episodes and that's why they're changing the order a bit and honestly: telling the brothers past this early isn't the worst they they could've done.

Great episode, I had fun watching it. It was fast and not boring although I've already seen/read it 3 times -> 5/5

Had no choice - don't live in the US.

And that's nice. I better prepare some cookies for them.

But it's good to get the whole tragic backstory out of the way early. Though taking three episodes to get to the plot is a bit extreme. =P
