THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Just watched the RAW.

highlights:

*The very OP is very nice. Somewhat erm.. how should I describe it? Exotic?
Watanabe Shinichiro (director of Cowboy Bebop ,Samurai Champloo and the likes) composed the music. The OP is somewhat Bebop-like I guess, although not as epic.

*Nice animation and character design.

*Maki Yoko,a new seiyuu, does a nice job as Michiko. So does Ohgo Suzuka as Hachi.

*Loli Hachi.

*Hot Michiko with guns.

Overall a good introduction ep,but the real story hasn't started yet.
Looking forward for subs and the next ep.

In a season full of indecisive "I'll give it a few episodes" shows comes a show that I have the utmost confidence in. Why you ask? I shouldn't need to explain since clearly you're blind if you had to ask why after watching that first episode. Any other show this season that has been said to be stylish just got kicked in the head repeatedly as this is truly a stylish show. Not to mention the outstanding animation and music, a surprisingly strong character focus despite the action with Michiko placed throughout, and directing that, while not up to the level of Watanabe's, still held it's own and was quite good. MOAR plz.

What a horrible family. I felt so bad for the girl.

This looks like it's going to be another great show from Manglobe. I'm looking forward to the next episode to see where things go from here.

That was a nice episode. Very stylish. Glad that Hana doesn't have to live with those terrible people anymore. The ED song is very nice and I'm really looking forward to the next episode.

The graffiti themed ED was great, even though it's something that's more present in the southern parts of the country. There wasn't nearly as many errors in Portuguese as I expected, as a Brazilian it was actually quite interesting to see. The depiction of our food such as the pastel the homeless guy was eating and the meals Hana prepared everyday were a bit off, but it looks like they've done some research. Another interesting bit was the name of their family, with which I think they tried to depict the race mixture that is our population, and the idea that Japanese immigrants are also a noticeable part of it.

The overall setting gives a feel of deep northeast Brazil, a hot climate area where the most desolate parts are somewhat similar to the American wild west to this day.

Wow, this is great!

Great graphics/animation, great music, great characters, greatly directed. Can't wait for the next episodes ;_ ;

Also, ecchi? I don't think so, it's just that Michiko is HOT. Period.

Awesome animation and some very mean kids. I cheered when Hana beat Maria up, she so had it coming.

This first episode is probably not indicatory of how this series will be, characters getting introduced on such.
It seems to me that Michiko is going to be kicking everybody's ass though, she's fucking hardcore!

Very good first episode.

It would be nice to see Hana at the end of the series as a grown-up woman that resembles Michiko. There is a possibility they're actually not blood-related, but even if that is the case it shouldn't stop them from making many good memories.

This series looks extremely promising right from the get-go. If it can keep up the animation quality and build a good story in the next 2-3 episode I think we've got a definite winner on our hands.

Goddamnit, this is the one thing I hate about anime. The shows with the sillyest of premises can turn out to be the most awsome ones, and because of this, you get dissapointed watching loads of junk hopeing to find something good.

This show is pure WIN!

Wow, this was just awesome. I love both character design and animation, and there seems to be some plot other than they hook up and go traveling together. This is one series I'll definitely be watching till the end.

But, WTF is wring with that family? Especially the kids. When that girl attacked with an iron I was left speechless. Sadistic brats.

Hana's voice actor is superb.

So through what media player do some of you play this video through? To play mkv format I only have VLC Player, but when they are HD like this they become very choppy. I even messed around with the cache value, changing it between 1000-5000. That didn't solve the problem, it only helped a bit. Any suggestions?

It's too soon to really say much about this series. Time will tell.

Regarding the music, I didn't know to expect with Shinichiro Watanabe being in charge of it, but it turns out anything and everything he does turns out perfectly. Very fitting music.

Now I understand how english-speaking people feels seeing/listening the horrible engrish from animes =/

That was a ridiculous adaptation, I bet they translated the portuguese lines with google's help. They mixed portuguese and spanish, misspelled a lot of words and there was sentences which made absolutely no sense.

The music was a poor attempt to imitate 'brazilian music'. I hate brazilian music anyway, so I'm not going to comment on this.
The scenary was a mix of Rio de Janeiro and deserts from USA. The 'favelas' were well reproduced, but they clearly don't know the difference between Brazil and the rest of Latin America, as most of the foreigners, sadly.

I'll watch this show until the end, but I know I'll have to summon my zen spirit to survive through it.

Great show, visually dynamic, emotionally engaging, and a great setting with authenticity. My only problem is that I wish we got to see Hana decide to go back to the house before Michiko rescues her...that was a little confusing. But a great setup, first episode.

Looks quite interesting to me. Promising story art and also sound (OP and ED are great).
Loved it when Hanna snapped and couldn't hold herself back anymore, since we often see character just falling deeper into despair unable to escape in those situations.

Looking qutie forward to the next episode.

You do realize it's about northeast Brazil, don't you?

Considering the amount of English errors the Japanese commit in their anime, like you pointed yourself, the Portuguese they managed to put out was quite acceptable, and trust me, much more accurate than a machine translation.

Padre there is not a particularly good shot.

A good first episode, though I had to watch it twice to catch that Hana was just daydreaming about being rescued (though I certainly hope she didn't daydream that righteous headbutt). Watanabe had to be on more than just the music.

I'll enjoy keeping tabs on this.

I like it so far, the art is wonderful and I love the uniqueness of Hana's mother.

I got so very excited when I saw Shinichiro's name in the credits I had to rewind and make sure! I didn't know he did music too, I like it so far! Hope he is half as good as his old composer. ;)

They both have gang tats. Michiko is probably following a promise Hana's mom, a fellow gang member, made with her. Probably to protect Hana.

Overall I loved this ep. Happy to see Hana go ape shit on her fake sister.

This will be THE anime of the Fall season.

So good to see an anime that doesnt feature the same tried old "high school girls" or "high school" centric plot.
