Since I got a notification for the discussion, I'm just gonna re-write my thoughts here: I got to watch the Dumpster battle at the premiere day! (Warning: a little spoilers ahead) I could gush about Haikyuu all day because of how personable those characters feel to me (thanks to its great character writing) but I'll just keep this simple: The movie was GREAT! | CRIED! ( the boy to my left was secretly weeping! As a manga reader the pacing didn't feel rushed to me, I guess it was fine, it's been a while since I read the manga tho, but honestly I always feel like the Karasuno vs Nekoma match would be great in a movie format AND IT DID! The director definitely did a good job and managed to sell the idea that this is a movie quality arc, the OSTs were great (they were always been) The flashbacks were REALLY GOOD and important to build up the tensions and everything. And as for the match it felt like I was watching an actual sport match. I heard they make a lot of money out of this movie and I think they should definitely consider to make: Fukurodani arc OVA and a Timeskip Season/2-3 OVA episodes becayse I feel like the next movie will only be about Karasuno vs Kamomedai. Overall it was 9/10 for me, insanely good and exciting! But the manga is still 10/10) The grip this series has for me is truly insane! Last but not least, I can't wait for more! |

Totally agree, I really recommend everyone to watch the movie on a big screen. Honestly, it has been a very long time since an anime made me feel this hype, haikyuu just never fails to always get me at the edge of my seat man. I'm not good at putting my thoughts into words but I can confidently say that the first part of Haikyuu duology movie is a HYPE MACHINE, That's probably the best way I could describe it. |

I had read all the manga, but had never seen a single episode of the anime, but went to see the movie because of its good reputation. It was better than I expected and watching it in the movie theater gave me a realistic feeling, such as the scene where the ball was falling. I was so moved at the end that I cried. I think fans of the anime Haikyuu will be more moved. It was said from the beginning that the screening time was too short, but I think it was just right. I hope that this movie will make a lot of money at the box office and that the next movie, which will be the second half, will be even better. |

Okay, I was expecting a rushed film but I can assure you that this isn't the one to be worried about. Compared to previous matchups, though, it was certainly on the faster end of the spectrum, but the movie got the main moments across. For those wondering how many chapters the movie adapted, it was roughly 35 chapters, from 291 to 326. Lots of fabulous and emotional moments throughout the movie. My favourite of the lot was Kenma's POV towards the end of the game, where it felt like you could experience the turbulence and intensity of the game as well as his desire to not let go. Sadly, it ended with that little slip, however. God, that was quite something! Had I been a huge fan of Nekoma, I know I would've balled my eyes for sure there. They really stepped it up with the sakuga animation too. And then Ukai-ojiichan's handshake, no way he didn't want to be there in person on the coaching benches. It's impressive how it felt like I'd watched a much longer movie, purely because of how detailed the match ended up being, lol. To be honest, I don't even know if that's the right way to put it. But it truly did feel like more than an hour and a half. Kenma breaking his character in the end is a great prize. If there's one thing I wish the movie expanded on, it would've definitely had to be the second set. Kenma's shutout of Hinata came in like a wrecking ball and I feel it could've used a bit more time to consolidate that. Don't get me wrong, the breakthrough with the help of Kageyama was awesome but it had potential to become even greater! A lot of the first half was not up to standard, in my opinion, relying very heavily on past scenes that have already been covered in the past but it really picked up towards the mid-way point and kept getting better! Don't forget to tune in for the little teaser after the post-credit scene. Little Giant title up for grabs! Spyair's new vocalist - maybe because I've heard the theme song already but I think his voice is just as good as Ike-san. There's a subtle difference that is probably discernible but it's still great! I've concerns regarding the next movie, which will cover around 80 remaining chapters. Yikes! This felt fast and it was only a mere 34 chapters in comparison. I'm hoping it'll be a massive movie but the odds of that are probably low, right? We got a lot of content of Nekoma before the game too so there wasn't too much need to explore them (although leave it to Haikyuu!! to absolutely go beyond and nail that) but I'm afraid that's not going to be the case for the upcoming giants. Nevertheless, here's to hoping Production I.G. will continue to deliver! Haikyuu!! deserves to go out with a bang. |

Watched it first hand in the cinema this day, it is perfect. Everything about the sounds, the choreography, the animation, the camera movement... just, pure chef's kiss. But I wish I could watch the battle between the Nekoma and the Karasuno more. In the meantime, 8/10 for the rating. Will change later depending on the later episodes. Update: Since MAL made each episode as an anime of their own, rating is now bumped to 9/10. |

Such an amazing movie! I loved how it was told primarily from the Nekoma/Kenma perspective given it was their final match, with the flashbacks to Kenma/Hinata and Kenma/Kuro's relationships really given the emotional and personal impact and connection to the story. Of course it was incredibly well animated which was great to see - in particular that POV sequence at the end of the match following Kenma was a real technical showcase that was beautiful to witness, with the panning, sweeping camera somehow perfectly replicating what it would be like to be playing in the match (and even somehow transitioning into and out of a flashback at the same time). They also managed to fit in growth for Hinata, who learns to overcome the pressure of the enemy and even be able to take high, middle shots mid match. Really excited for the next movie, although given it is supposedly the final one I am suddenly starting to think that Karasuno might not be able to make it through. Still rooting for them though and whatever happens I just hope they can animate it as well as this movie. |

This is peak Haikyu and this is a must watch in cinema platform rather than at home. With that said, it does have sound problem (I watch in the Japanese audio version). But despite technical problems, I'm 100% going to watch the second part in cinema, whenever it release in my country. |

10/10 for me! I was pretty pissed at first that we weren't getting a season 5, but after watching the movie I think Nekoma vs Karasuno worked perfectly as a movie. I absolutely LOVED it, it was art. Haikyuu already has a way with making you root for both teams, but they went HARD with that effect here. At some point I was rooting for Nekoma more than Karasuno lmao. I was never a hardcore Kenma or Kuroo stan, but I get it now, they shined so brightly in this movie. The main characters weren't Karasuno here, they were definitely Nekoma (specifically Kuroo and Kenma). I'm just sad that I became such a Nekoma fan right before they got kicked out. Great match, can't wait for the next one! |

this was a damn good movie! i wasn't sure if i'd understand what was going on storywise (i haven't seen any of Haikyu), but i got swept up by the intensity pretty quickly :) the theater was pretty full too! and judging by the ooooohs and ahhhhs, it sounded like the auditorium was full of fans. being in a crowd of fans makes the movies so much more fun <3 man, the movie made volleyball look like a super chaotic sport! that action was kinda hard to follow, but i was able to figure out what was good and what was bad by the character's reactions. the camera work was fucking great! the animation was great! the voice acting was great! even though i'm watching the end first, it's making me want to watch Haikyu from the beginning. and thank you to the person that started clapping during the credits hahaha! i wanted to clap, but then i lagged it, and then no one else clapped, and that made me more self conscious cause if the fans didn't clap then who the fuck am i to do anything even though i wanted to, but then you did, then i did, then other people did and everything was cool hahaha :D gotta love that movie magic ;) |

This movie was utterly incredible. It far surpassed my expectations. In preparation for watching this, I watched the recap movies to remind myself of the story so far since it’s been a long time since I watched the first season of Haikyuu. Back in 2014, watching season one’s practice match between Karasuno and Nekoma, I wouldn’t even have begun to think that ten years later I’d be watching Karasuno play Nekoma at nationals in the cinema. It was truly wonderful to see all the characters that I’ve watched for the last ten years on the big screen. The POV shots, especially the part near the end with Kenma, were incredibly effective in the cinema and I wonder if they’ll translate well onto the small screen. For a moment, it felt like I was there, on the court, in Kenma’s shoes. I can’t fault the animation at all. And the story progression felt as natural as all the other Haikyuu seasons have been. From the flashbacks to previous seasons such as Tsukushima training with Kuroo and Bokuto to the flashbacks of a young Kuroo and Kenma discovering their love of volleyball, all of it made the characters feel more realistic and reminded the viewer of the tight bonds between all the characters. Kenma has never been my favourite character, perhaps because he’s too apathetic, but he truly shined in this movie and I have a newfound admiration for him now. In this movie, Kenma was the main character and he totally stole the spotlight from Karasuno. I loved every single moment of this movie and I can’t wait for the next one! |

The atmosphere of the game felt significantly worse than the Inarizaki game. Personally, it felt underwhelming as it didn't really feel like a nationals game, more of a prefectural game. The atmosphere didn't match the intensity of the game, which was super high.
Despite that, I still enjoyed it since I'm a Haikyuu fan, so its still a 9/10 from me. Though the atmosphere part really felt lacking for me. It felt like this whole thing would've 100% been better if it were longer, or better yet, a series.

@adbeaver I agree, the movie was very “feel good” and the music choice and flashback timing/usage made it feel less intense for a nationals game. It felt like there wasn’t much at stake and I don’t think it did a good job of conveying just how much each side wanted to win. Still, it was super fun to watch hq again and I couldn’t stop smiling throughout the movie. There was one really great rally in terms of animation + the kenma pov that were hype. It’s a 7 bumped to an 8/10 for nostalgia for me. |

Just saw the movie and man it reminded me of why I love this series so much. The characters, their interactions and relationships, the music, the intensity, all of it is so damn good. The final rally being entirely from Kenma's POV was brilliant. Just absolutely masterful directing right there, to really put us into the action. THAT is how you elevate the source material. Haikyuu is definitely up there among the greats of sports anime/manga. My main gripe, and this is where condensing the last 100 chapters and some change into 2 movies comes back to bite you, is that certain things inevitably got omitted. I don't mind that they cut out a lot of fluff dialogue from side characters explaining things, or them cutting out a good majority of the commentary from the announcers, but I believe this movie could have benefited from being a little longer so some other skipped things could fit in. Namely, some backstory details between Kenma and Kuroo, along with the backstory of Nekoma's coach and Grandpa Ukai, which would have, in my opinion, made that postgame handshake more emotionally poignant (it still WAS emotional mind you, but with the backstory it could have been that "full circle" moment). Also, it wasn't much but even Shimizu had some lines during the match that added some drama and intensity and would have allowed her to amount to more than just making some reaction sounds 😭 and there was some other stuff I would have liked to see on the big screen but oh well. Looking at the story arc breakdown of Haikyuu, Nationals ends at chapter 369. To The Top cour 2 ended at ch. 292, so honestly a 25 episode season could have finished this arc and then have a final 10 episode season covering the 33 chapter final arc. REGARDLESS, this was still a fantastic movie. Whether you're a manga reader or anime-only, if you're just a Haikyuu fan you'll most likely walk out of the theater satisfied. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and despite the struggle of having to cover, and by extension, omit, more content that looms over the "part 2" final movie, I have hopes that that one will be just as good. |

It was pretty fun to see this in theaters watching everyone cheer for Karasuno. The final rally was amazing where everyone was exhausted, we only hear their breathing and see everything from Kenma's POV. There was an overabundance of flashbacks which always took me out of the match especially in the important moments. They probably rushed some things too but in any case, as an anime only, I enjoyed the match. Reminded me how much I loved Haikyu. |

That was pretty fun. And animated a lot better than the last season where I recall some of the sequences felt pretty jank. That first person perspective shot at the end was especially kickass. Of course our team won, but hey Kenma had fun so that's cool I guess. |

Such a feel good movie and you can't help but smile watching all the guys give it their all and enjoy the game. The final play from the perspective of Kenma was very unique, I don't think they did something similar for the show and it was really cool. 10/10 |

Absolute cinema one of my most amazing experience in my life about a anime movie in theaters,. i just fucking love this show even it is rushed or really complicated to condensed in the anime i just enjoy my fun that i have in this wonderful gorgeous that will sadly come to an end. But we still have time to witness all this wonderful conclusion. i will be really sad when it will concluded. but what a phenomenal series it was this movie will have a special part of my life. because, firstly, it was my first time seeing a anime movie in theaters. second, its probably the only series thats makes me want to do volleyball again since my retirement of this sport. So i'm really glad that i watched it and not waiting for 8 or 9 months on Crunchyroll if it is coming i must need to rewatch it again before Part 2 9 out of 10 |

Truly amazing movie. Just left the theaters! The whole build-up until this very moment, the Karasuno-Nekoma background, the conclusion; everything in its right place. I can't wait for the sequel! 🏐❤ |
