THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Out on Anime Strike now.

Oh boy, that new character with the mecha causing trouble already. I have to admit, the first half of this episode got pretty chaotic. Government also turns out to know more than they are letting on. Interesting reveal about the military princess is as she seems to be created by Shimazaki (suicide girl) from some TV show called "Altair/World Etude".

I'm really interested to see how far they plan to focus on Rui (mecha pilot).

So they emit radio waves when they materialize in the real world. If I understood it correctly, they do it even when they are spotted moving from place to place. If that were the case, then they could predict the enemy movements with that. Alisteria didn't waste time to kidnap her creator lol.
I liked the mention to costs caused by the loss of military equipment. Most of the time it's glossed over; not that it's really important. Meteora went teehee

There we go finally.

Edit: translated a bit of the thread. The story should be called Eternal Taisen Megarosphere, the character name should be Altair.
I can't read what's written in the video title tho. If someone else can pls

This episode went by so fast. Felt like I only watched it for 10 minutes.

Kinda weird to hear Isla's/Miia's/Aqua-sama's voice from a boy character, but hey!

The creations and the creators have now been granted protection by the council. Good to see the involved parties are in agreement. Meteora is still the best at handling negotiations.

I am soooo curious about the ending and what exactly did Souta discover about the Military Uniform Princess! I can't read Japanese so I had no idea what were written on the search results on his browser, lol... orz

Still my top favorite anime from this season. <3

Shimazaki made the story about Gunpuku, she said it was probably her last one. The one who asked if it was ok to draw was probably him. If someone can read that kanji in the LINE chat, maybe we can understand better who it was; but it could be a nickname too.
In the browser he was looking for the name of a star-->Altair. Altair is the name of the story character she wanted to write about. I don't know what World Etude (means study in french) is though.

Edit: translated a bit of the thread. The story should be called Eternal Taisen Megarosphere, the character name should be Altair.
I can't read what's written in the video title tho. If someone else can pls! I'll keep looking for clues in the other images of written text.

Good episode.

The government are finally onto our fictional characters and they even had a huge meeting with them. Cool that all our fictional characters have legal documents now. xD

Meteora is turning out to be my favorite character, I laughed at that pun she made. Also loved how she just said sorry to all the military expense. xD
Alisteria's creator is probably in huge trouble, wonder if he's still alive after what happened last episode.

That ending was really interesting. Souta finally starts remembering Shimazaki, wonder what Etude is. :o

Holy shit, they got into a fight with the JDSF.

I did NOT see that coming. We got our action alright. And then there's meteora being pissed.

Oh, and so Souta-creator theorists were at least partially right: He helped with her base character design. Shimazaki Setsuna wrote the setting and character design.

Grand Theory:

it would seem someone took Setsuna's work and republished it, modifying the character design. This seems to have been published via the web as a popular story called "The 40th Saber," which was set to be published. Along the way, it would seem that enough pressure was exerted on Shimazaki that she committed suicide. The act of her doing so would seem to be the catalyst for MUP's entry into the world.

I'm going to take a stab at it, but it would seem that MUP's real name is Altair.

Things have started to get out of hand now.

It was funny to see Masaaki getting out of his house expecting something to come out of his TV. And it did.

Seems like Souta was the one who drew the Military Uniform Princess.

TROYCA goes with cliffhangers one more time.

I shouldn't have believed in the first episode to fail into this trap of boredom. And this JSDF stuff tend to make characters more careful, so it looks like there will be even less action (even it's really hard to make even less action in action anime). If they aren't trying to unleash their potential for 4 episodes in a row (okay, there was a good mahou-shoujo x Selestia confrontation, but it was interrupted too soon), I don't think that it will become better in the rest 17.

Well that "creation" sure get offended easily, BUT he must have a good taste for denying Selestia's offer about the date. LOL
After looking at how Meteora deal with the Council, I wonder if she will get any offer about more helping the Council all by herself next time.

Nice, this was definitely better than the last and was actually done well. I liked this episode!
More realism is always good and the long talks made sense. The whole interrogation with the robot and cover-up impossibility was handled well. I expect the long build up finally paying off soon. That ending was hype as fuck :O

I'm telling you, this series is killing it right now. The introduction of Rui brings another source of comedy; what with his constant urge for food. Also, it's good to see the show is willing to portray the government in a positive light; they are just trying to deal with the situation like everybody else. The mystery of Military Uniform Princess deepens, with her connection to Sota and Shimazaki (the suicide girl in the beginning). Series like this always end with the viewer wanting for more.

So as I see it, Gunpuku no Himegime was a character designed by Shimazaki and Souta wanted to draw her based on the Shimazaki perception. Souta obviously was her best friend. Something went wrong*, Shimazaki suicided, and Souta got that demoralized he lost both memories of that character and will to keep on drawing, or rather subconsciously lost the ability to do it. Shimazaki's death triggered the transition of GnH into "reality" or the space between reality and "fictional" worlds,... digitalizing her? The whole concept seems to be interwoven deeply with known physics, on a deeper scale.
*As someone have noted in the beginning of the thread, someone could have stolen the former character and re-designed her as GnH. I believe Shimazaki got really mad (mad as in extremely angry) at someone disrespecting her concept by turning her creation into military-connected character, and ultimately could not bear it. + to the message of taking our concepts more seriously (way more). IF so then there must exist one additional, I assume, person, who made the whole mess begin - someone who tampered with the original design of GnH.
All that aside a multidimensional masterpiece I have never expected but always wanted.

This actually sounds very interesting and plausible. There were different titles in the searches and what people discussed seemed like of a wip work.
I really like the themes of this show with the whole "don't abandon your projects", "bring life to your imagination", but also with that theory possibly showing the consequences of plagiarising works. It might not have the best execution but I sense some distinct grounding to reality notable in this anime, which appreciates its themes, contrary to other 'typical' action anime.

Beginning was boring as fuck...minutes of info we already knew.
Pretty cool how the military actually interferes, but all they did was talk, and nothing new was learned, really.

I'm really liking this series so far. The introduction of Rui and his shallowness that stems from him coming from an unfinished story concept is brilliant and just shows how good the writing is so far. I also loved the conversations in which Meteora takes part of since these develops her subtly. Meteora develops incredibly in this episode since she was a very one-dimensional character in the start because she was written just as an expository character in her game but then slowly develops into a character that can smile and make quips since she's growing in the real world by interacting and learning from the other people than just being stagnant and just following what she's written for in her game world.

All in all, I'm expecting a lot more from this series and I hope it won't stop it's analysis of characters and what it takes to write a good one.

Got to learn more how characters in anime and manga can be transported into the real world. The JSDF raid was unexpected. Rui looks very cool with his mecha. The government knows what's going on and wants the creators and creations to help them. The ending was interesting. Souta remembered where he saw Gunpuku no Himegimi.

I can't quite understand why you don't like this when you also like Sekaisuru Kado, which is itself another "superpowers" show.

Regardless, they both ask and explore good concepts; this show explores what the practical effects of bringing fiction to life in a more limited world would be, and how the personalities of various characters as written would cause problems.

Sekaisuru Kado explores the practical effects of having an alien appear from a parallel dimension whose technology is so advanced that it makes the user effectively a benevolent god.

She is very pretty. It helps that Souta's the one who created her concept art, and Shimazaki Setsuna (suicide girl) was her scenario writer.

An etude is "a short musical composition, typically for one instrument, designed as an exercise to improve the technique or demonstrate the skill of the player."

So the "world etude" that we saw was basically a world concept that Souta and Setsuna created together. It was meant to be a one-off to advertise their skill together and generate interest.

If, however, that is the title of Gunpuku no Himegimi's world, then it would match with her theme; her uniform is based around that of a military marching band, and her entire personality seems to be based around the idea that she's a "conductor" for the song of the world.

No, when they showed the world etude signboard they said Creator: Shimazaki, meaning she did the art as well. Before that the web positing was complimenting how a saber was first added and then the uniform.

So it looks as if Shimazaki stole the character design from Setsuna Souta.

Maybe she committed suicide out of guilt, but I think there is more going on.

It would seem from his memories that they collaborated. He may well have done the inital art, and then she added the rest of the character concept for World Etude (which is the name of MUP/GnH's story).

We won't really know until next episode, though. Either way, this episode was very good.

The foreshadowing is actually really well-placed which I think most people skipped over when trying to decipher the comments.

If my google translator app serves me well it mentions there being 'Altair, known as the Tanabata star' using my elite computer skills I looked up what a 'Tanabata' was. It lead me to Wiki, from there I learnt:

"According to legend, the Milky Way separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar."

Could this be some foreshadowing to the events between the girl who gets hit by a train and the puss of an MC as some sort of metaphor to suggest that she was his lover?

Furthermore the next link:

Mentions how there's a discussion about an project called 'Eternal Taisen Megarosphere'. I looked up the key terms mentioned and I found the app called "Project Gutenberg" which is summarized as:

"Project Gutenberg is a volunteer effort to digitize and archive cultural works, to "encourage the creation and distribution of eBooks". It was founded in 1971 by Michael S. Hart and is the oldest digital library.".

I've also noticed that there was a-lot of referencing to star-formations which is possibly a foreshadowing to what the gun girl is planning to do, maybe she's planning to wait for the alignment of the stars as she was stated by the other white haired girl during the JSDF conference.

Excuse my mistakes Im dylsexic.

I don't think the constellation has anything to do with the story, or maybe not very much, they just wanted to show plausible search results as the name 'altair' comes from there.

The way I see it is they were close friends with Souta. Gunpuku no Himigimi is fully her creation, he is just a friend /possible lover that tried to encourage her or something. He definitely didn't draw her as he would have recognized her immediately.

Ahhh! The episode that wayyy better than last episode.
Idk why the last episode felt so long while this episode make me feel like i'm watching it not 20 minutes.

I've never expected that JSDF would interfere in this story like that, and not even the government would interfere in this story. From the start I though that it will become like some other animes, maybe like Fate franchise, which although the Holy Grail war occurred in the city, but there are almost none interference by the authority (except the time with Caster's monster).

Rui seems like a fun character, and when he whining about that he doesn't want to fight anymore, I suddenly remembered Shinji from NGE, lel. And Selesia.... I think one of her character descriptions is that she is the type that willingly do anything to achieve something she want, just like when she offered to date Rui if he cooperate with them .

And then, the meeting, another talking and explanation about all the things related, Meteora's 'crime' ; stealing of military hardware and property damage, protection for the Creators n Creation. And up to this point, I came to a conclusion that Meteora's character was somehow being inspired by Lelei La Lalena from GATE.

And of course, the end of this episode, strengthen the theory about the relationship of Souta, Shimazaki and Military Uniform Princess.

Nice episode this time. I hope they not screwed the whole series in later episodes.

Some of the comments on the right either said stuff like "It's not that good" or "It got a little worse for W". Though I'm reading what google translate said. I honestly believe that the guy with glasses drew Altair initially for his friend when they were younger as the initial white haired girl but the story didn't get too much positive feedback to which there were drastic changes to the character design to appease the audience. It could also be the reason to why she committed suicide.

I think from there he was unable to draw just like that guy in Shigatsu couldn't play the piano after his mum died.

Their chat messages were interesting. "Is it ok if i want to draw" "Don't ask me"

Souta drew and she liked him and his works, so in order to appear more likable and by their friendship, she started drawing too and she created Himegimi. Someone else stole her work or told her it's bad which made her sad and somehow later resulted in her suicide. Souta now blames himself for him being the reason she started drawing and killing herself, so he doesn't have the spirit to draw anything anymore. I don't know, but I feel they didn't really have such close connection and I don't think they cooperated in creating such story work, more like just art.

If I can add something... this "war" against our world and Military Princess fondness of Shimazaki may be interpreted as revenge. If I remember correctly Military Princess decided to destroy the world, because Shimazaki was rejected. I don't know what truly happened, but this theory about stolen character gave me the impression that Shimazaki has been used by some firm, which took the character and the story with or without author's permission. They could throw Shimazaki aside after receiving the permision or simply steal her story from the Internet.

It's not even a theory. I only thought that it would help someone.

The Military being so cooperative and supportive is a little far-fetched, but I'm will turn a blind eye to it because I really like this show xD
