Superb. It's not often you see a series which ends with a no-blink climax and yet doesn't tell you what happened. Inspiring of awe to the max (truly). The noirish ending fit the atmosphere of this show fairly well.

woah. That was unexpected. I can't help feeling like that was sort of a cop out. At least they gave the indication that Akagi was the winner, though - I hate those, "You decide what happened" style endings. On to kaiji.

I thought it was fairly clear who the winner was.. I liked how it ended but I still want to watch more. Well, on to Kaiji, I suppose.

Actually the reason it ended like it did is because the manga was and still is ongoing. This happens to many animes and results in inconclusive endings. They'll probably finish it out with another season or OVA at a later time.

There's actually 1 guy who is translating the manga from the very beginning. You can check it out here if you're interested.

Well, in my opinion, there's no need in OVA, the ending is awesome!!! I love it! I was bored for some episodes, but the ending woke me up!!!

Rushed ending, yes, I'd really like to have seen how Washizu was crushed by Akagi. A second season would be awesome, but that is perhaps quite unlikely. =/
Anyways a perfect anime, but I think I would have enjoyed it still much more if I had known the Mahjong rules.. xD

Not knowing Mahjong well makes this show a bit confusing. Sort of disappointed by the ending, but if anything I'm more so in shock. I was like... "nice, onto the next episode we go!" and the op for Michiko to Hatchin starts playing... lewl. I thought Kaiji had an abrupt ending, but this is unsurpassed. That in itself is reason enough to respect this show.

Overall out of the mere five point voting system I'm giving it a 4/5 (I like it), not exactly ecstatic for the series. Sure it was good, but I don't think it'll come close to the awesomeness that is known as One Outs.

I do recommend this show to anyone who likes thriller/physiological scenarios. Not many of this kind, and albeit its Mahjong of all things, it's still mindf*ckingly insane. Good watch.

Is the manga difficult compared to the anime? In the anime i found it easy to catch what was happening even though i dont know mahjong so well. I can identify the tiles, and knows a few basic rules. So, am i ready to read it? If not, ill delay it until i've learned Mahjong properly.

This was an amazing series, really one of the best psychological genre for an anime out there imo.
Really a dissapointment that it didn't show how the match turned out, even though we knew who won, but would love to see how Akagi crush him.
10/10 from me, amazing series.

Sudden ending so 9/10...But damn, what a nice pace/story/everything. Akagi is a badass. That's pretty much what the score is based on. Anime characters are almost Never badass.

With the way Akagi started off this was the best possible ending in my opinion. Akagi, unlike Kaiji, is always a winner; unless they decide to kill him, there's no other good ending. I liked how this ending was not a completely open ending. He survives the game but he's still looks the same guy after all those years. Wandering around bored with life and maybe heading to another death match.
I still liked Kaiji much better but I liked Akagi's ending more. If I could I would give it a 8.5/10.

Even though the victor of the match was pretty much already decided from the end of the Yakuman hand loss, I would have loved to see Akagi crush Washizu.

Would have gotten a 10/10 from me if only they haven't drag that last few one pin episodes too much..

should of fit two more eps in..i wanted washizu to take the last round and
then i wanted to see akagi victorious and you dont even get to see what happens to the cops and akagi in the future

wtf?

I'm wondering if I should score it 9 or 10. Washizu's laugh and smile killed it, but of course that's not enough to give it 9. I liked the sudden ending though. No, it must be a 10.

Next up is Kanji.

The ending wasn't bad... It was very sudden, but at least he didn't die. :P

Kaiji is more interesting... I like Kaiji more because Kaiji isn't perfect; he isn't a genius who wins every time, he's just a guy, but he overcomes so much. Akagi basically wins every time.

Well, I liked Akagi a lot.

The unfortunate part is that Akagi has not yet been completed. It is up to volume 24 and the anime stops at volume 10. Along with this, there are no scanlaters for Akagi. There are over 200 exciting chapters out and yet the anime only reached around chapter 110. Rather unfortunate I'd say. I did see the images of the manga and I'd have to say that despite the lack of text, it is simply stunning...

Meh, pretty rushed ending... but it was retardedly good. 8/10

I still don't like Akagi (Character) in my mind, hes just a madman with insane mahjong skills and a doctorate in psychological research.

The ending really wasn't needed. Obviously, what happens is that they play some more mahjong, Akagi starts to win and then starts losing again. Then narmy special effects cover up the fact that, yet again, Washizu is carrying the Idiot Ball in the last game. Akagi wins, but in such a way that he still has to pay up a fatal amount of blood. The blood is drawn and, miraculously, he's still alive. Akagi then reveals that he got a blood transfusion along with the soda while he was at the clinic (biggest lolwut reason I've ever heard for seeing a doctor. The soda, not the blood, though that's pretty ridiculous too. Might be that the soda is blood, but same idea either way). Cue everyone exclaiming at what a genius he is for stocking up on blood when he's going to try and beat a nutcase who kills by exsanguination.

7/10 for me. It had it's moments, but I wasn't impressed.

WTH kind of ending is this??? I gave it a 6/10. I was really feeling it at first, but the dragging on of the Washizu arc, combined with the weird character designs and the lame ending made me give it much lower score than I originally intended.

Like I said before, it's because the manga was/is still ongoing.

Last I heard, Washizu & Akagi were still battling it out in the mansion.

Lol'd at almost an entire arc's wroth of episodes about drawing the One Pin

Otherwise it's fair that they ended it this way, definitely a 8.5, but would bump it up to a 9 ala MAL rating system.

To be this engrossed in an anime about gambling, they did a good job with it.

Man. That last half of that last arc was painful. I understand that the manga was still ongoing, so I'll grudgingly accept the cliffhanger ending (could have been a bad filler ending and that benefits no one), but damn, to drag it out so much and STILL not finish the game? There had to be a better way. Second half started out so well, too. It's a shame.

9/10 for the first half, 7/10 for the second half too. 8/10 overall.

The akagi anime was awesome but the ending was really abrupt. I understand the reason but now that the manga is done I keep hoping that they make an ova because i read the manga and the match gets even more insane. I wont reveal too much but basically wahsizu loses all his money and starts betting his own blood. Akagi "dies" twice and Ohgi almost loses his arm. If your want to find out what happens to akagi the look up the manga TEN- the path of the nice guy. It does not star akagi but it features him in his fifties as one of the main characters. It is done by the same artist that did akagi. Dont mine the art it gets better over time. And it shows the the fate and death of Akagi Shigeru

Thanks for saying something crimson. These psychological thrillers are loaded with subliminal messages and the last thing I need right now after watching 26 episodes in 3 days is to feel untied in my brain for the next month.

The guy who writes these stories is brilliant. It is funny how I came across his work. I saw the second season of Kaiji thinking it was the first, then I saw the first season, then I saw he had done Akagi. LOL.

Alright, glad this thread was here. I ended the series with a wtf expression on my face and exclaimed fml after OMGWTFLOL

peace bitches

Near the end I kept thinking that he had transfused extra blood into his body when he went to the doctor before they went to the mansion. Also, why the energy drinks? I know he says it is just so he won't be drugged but somehow I don't think that's all of it at all.

At the very least, they showed the winner and showing Akagi is still Akagi after all those years.
