man, i didn't expect that assistant hacker guy to be a spy. And it was funny when Monami and Izumida were walked into.

it was interesting to learn Monami's purpose in this whole case. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Interesting? I kind of thought it was obvious from the first time we saw her . . .

But yeah, this was a fun episode in the first half. It's just that I'd have liked a genuine twist or two later on. Maybe we'll get that next episode.

It's a good thing I like the characters in this series so much because this plot has gone from interesting to a bit on the silly side. Not that I don't like it all the same, but there do seem to be quite a few underdeveloped ideas and stuff that has been pushed to the side and forgotten such as the scandal involving Ryoko, the idea that perhaps Monami has the same sort of ability to attract supernatural stuff like the giant toad, and no one besides Oyuki seemed to care that Ruriko does not age.

The scandal could have been played into this episode, if they had managed their time better.

I'm not in love with the characters, but I do think the plot is picking up in this arc. A lot of the filler episodes really didn't thrill me, but this conspiracy stuff does.

The only problem is that there are only 26 episodes, with a double screentime, this series would have been perfect, but unfortunately, it's not easy to sum up a Yoshiki Tanaka novel, as we've seen with GinEiDen (110 OVA + 24 episodes + 28 episodes + 3 movies). Even if Yakushiji Ryoko no Kaiki Jikenbo is shorter, each scene has its importance and discarding some just drags down the whole script.

Still this series is very well executed, music is great and the characters are as good as ever so we can't really complain can we ? And moreover, it's by far the best series of this summer (I know the competition is very weak apart from Natsume and Xamdou, but still !).

In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same.

sorry, I can't possibly put this over either Natsume Yuujinchou or Xam'd, and both shows have its problems. The main problem with Yakushiji is that everything has become ridiculous, and that has to deal with the way they have scripted the show, and put together episodes. Also, they treated the revealing of Monami as a surprise when it was pretty clearly explained in the last episode. It just seems like a cheap X-Files now...I wish they had focused on the characters more than random sci-fi wackiness.

In response to noteDhero's response to Jacut (since I didn't want to have a bunch of quotes):

I don't think I would put it over Natsume at this point either since that show has improved vastly since the first few episodes. Xam'd on the other hand, while nicely animated, seemed to me like the same old mech show formula with a new coat of paint and instead of being mechs it's humanform weapons which is why I dropped it.

indeed i loved that situation in Izumida's apartment, plus as usual Ryoko has amusing face gestures especially in that garden when they were being eavesdropped on.

I can see some of the problems in this series that you guys are pointing out, but I still find it to be a highly enjoyable mystery series. Especially this arc in particular.

And, just to throw in my own two cents, I honestly think that this series is better, or at the very least on the same level, as Natsume. The story may be a bit weaker, but the characters and music are superior, the animation is better imo (that is perhaps arguable), and, the enjoyment level is higher, though that factor is purely opinion that depends on the person. However, I do believe Xam'd is better than both of 'em.

My thoughts exactly. And I mean that quite literally with those exact words.

Well it isn't very original, but I find it enjoyable. Especially the first half of the episode :)

Well I just marathoned up to this episode and I'll say what I said a few episodes back, this show jumps around at random times.

I hate how they get you into one story and then jump away to an entirely different one and make it seem like it's non existent. For example the whole part about JASE might lose power thing. It was a huge part of the past ep and now it's pushes aside for this new story about the dead girl clone. Sure they mix together but they should at least mix the two story's together better.

So far the only reason I've been watching this series up to now has been to see when Izumida figures out Ryoko has a thing for him, which may not even happen.

Guess this arc will last the final two episodes. I'm pretty sure they'll tie the scandal stuff with this stuff in the end. I'm enjoying it for the 13 eps it is, and not worrying too much about it, like everyone else seems to be :)

The first half of the episode was super entertaining. I'm just watching for Ryoko and Izumida now... The story has kind of lost my interest and I already have a feeling for how things are going to turn out - though I could be wrong if there are some major twists.

But they better have Izumida figure out how Ryoko feels. :| Otherwise I'm probably going to finish this series on a disappointed note...!

Yeah, I did too. The monami storyline was kind of predictable.

I agree - this show had so much potential and I'm really disappointed by it.

I agree with the ridiculousness of the show. I mean, just watching this episode of Ryoko going into battle 'alone' dressed to the nines' in high heels was absolutely stupid. I can guarantee that Oyuki or Scully form X-files would have known how to dress for the occasion.

Very materialistic protagonist. I really like Oyuki's character better, which is one reason I started watching the show. Well... that and the suspense. I love strong female characters, but Ryoko is a bit annoying with her over-confidence.

This. The first few episodes were really interesting but since that power stone giant tree case, everything just felt off :/
