Ichibanboshi's reactions this episode were natural given what he saw.

On the other hand, this show's society is pretty normal compared to today's world in terms of wealth, health, and people who lives by their laws. We also got more of Ichibanboshi's past too, something that I found more interesting than the present story.

Oh and one of the doctors in this show is kinda badass.

Shinsengumi Kondo Isami vs. The captain of the Masked Demons, Rashomaru: the fated fight between brothers Ichibanboshi and Tsukito, the latter getting rid of the family like it's nothing. Yet, Sakuya is the closest feeling with the semblance of having killed loved ones before.

Onto Sogen and Suzuran's backstories, Sogen's room is messy, but is based on his medical interests, and he could be said as the Sengoku equal of scientists. Suzuran's acquaintance of Oito's dad Mokichi is the victim of the Masked Demons aura, and it's too bad that they didn't have enough time to save him. Still though, the way that they handled the burials, it feels modern enough.

For a legendary sword to respond to an entity like the Shirakawaya (which has the possibility of housing Masked Demons), Dumboshi is frantic enough to serve justice. I love Suzuran's inept joke though: "you are Kondo (勇) but you can't "Kondone" (勇足, a pun on the word 'condone') your bad behaviour" that's a lame but funny joke.

Tsukito and Ichibanboshi's backstory feels normal as well, but the fact that the latter couldn't believe that his dear brother has run amok, it's just frustrating. The Shirakawaya where souls are housed like an electric box current, it soon lays true, and NGL, both Sogen and Suzuran are badass for confirmation that the Shinsengumi are out on their mission...except Dumboshi himself for his wavering confidence.

it's ironic enough that stories of the past are more intriguing than the main plot.

Slightly better than the previous episodes. Great to see Ichibanboshi be punished for his recklessness.

The doc is a weird dude and the monk is a horny little perv haha. Did the dude say in a few years the girl would be in her prime? Dude lol.

So is the monk a priest? I know there were “hidden Christians” in Japan, are they implying he’s one? It’s interesting that a religious type would be paired with the science-y atheist type. Then again, he’s not really an orthodox “monk”. For one, he loves terrible puns haha.

Tsukito might not be a piece of shit but Rashomaru totally is. Like the guy said, he lost his humanity a long time ago. He’s with the enemy now. Plus if they’re trying to use souls to power stuff, that’s like mad scientist level bad lol. I wonder what they’ll find at Shirakawaya.

The priest and the doctor, along with the bigger guy and the orange-haired guy are really the only likeable characters for me right now.

The art is still n interesting change on the standard forms. The tension between order and personal feelings was believable. I most enjoyed the continuing philosophical debate between the monk and the doctor.

Rashomaru & Sakuya both killed their parent, yet are so different.
Suzuran respects both Buddhist & Christian customs, refreshing to see such open mind. Priest & doc such a fun pair.
All the pairings here quite interesting, but Akira & Kogoro heating up fast.
